Ted Nugent – Stranglehold Lyrics 18 years ago
About putting the hoe in her place when she walks away. Oh, and I think it could have done with a slim-fast diet. 3 minutes of boringness could have been shaved off.

Seems to be about every bad sci-fi from the 80s.

Judas Priest – I'm A Rocker Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is a highly pretentious boast. Little more. It sucks like almost everything on the album.

Judas Priest – Raw Deal Lyrics 18 years ago
It's about gay bars. I feel gayer for even having read these lyrics.

Meshuggah – New Millennium Cyanide Christ Lyrics 18 years ago
The New Millenium Cyanide Christ is the representation of man's careening path toward mechanization. A new mechanical prophet is born (built?). Spewing a gas lethal to organisms, he entreats humanity to surrender itself to mechanical perfection and be reborn as machines. Kurzweil's wet dream, of course.

Wintersun – Battle Against Time Lyrics 18 years ago
The song depicts a man's struggle to find meaning in his life, whether it be a physical meaning and earthly success, or to discover the divine before he's forced to confront it in the pale of death itself. The latter is certainly a more chilling and compelling theme.

Wintersun – Starchild Lyrics 18 years ago
Taken in context with the rest of the album, this song is highly spiritual and mystical. There may be connection to Finnish mythology, but at any rate, the protagonist has chosen a life of mysticism which allows him to create worlds, but disconnects him from the human experience.

Taken on its own, the song COULD be viewed as the memoirs of someone who uses very powerful drugs that allow him to create things in his mind, but of course, are also a waste of his life.

Strapping Young Lad – In The Rainy Season Lyrics 19 years ago
Devin is driving through the desert in the middle of July... that part is pretty clear. It sounds like he's having hallucinations partially induced by the heat and dehydration but possibly also trying to determine how much truth there is to them as he describes an incident involving a room. There's possibly a third party involved. Maybe Devin and his accomplice tried to rob a chick but the other guy ended up killing or raping her, implicating Devy in far worse than simple robbery. Now he is panicking, trying to get away. Rain represents the force which washes all clean, and thus in his mind, the sin.

Strapping Young Lad – Two Weeks Lyrics 19 years ago
Lyricaly I have only the foggiest idea how this song fits into the album's grand scheme. Musically it's clearly meant to serve as a cooldown after the relentless intensity preceding it. Logically it would make more sense for it to follow "We Ride" though for a true jekyll and hyde effect.

As far as the lyrics go, my stab at it is Devin, recoiling from the turbulent world he's been describing in every single song before it, is inviting the subject into a drug trip.

Strapping Young Lad – Imperial Lyrics 19 years ago
While most of the album "Alien" is about - fittingly - alienation, Imperial is just a metal anthem. Every band's gotta have one!

Strapping Young Lad – All Hail The New Flesh Lyrics 19 years ago
This song appears to be about transcending the barriers of the physical and taking on a higher form, possibly touching on a Meshuggah-like theme of man combining with machine. It's the protagonist's declaration of his new state and of his contempt for the mere mortals he has left behind. Very metal!

Strapping Young Lad – We Ride Lyrics 19 years ago
It's quite obvious what this song is about. Devin is racing motorcycles with the object of his lust pursuing her, either yelling over the rush of wind and engines or simply thinking these things of her. At any rate he is conflicted with thoughts of frustration toward this difficult woman (and what chick isn't, especially that rides?) and thoughts of sexual desire. When he yells "Put it in gear motherfucker" he seems to be moving in for "the kill" and of course when they "connect and emerge" he must have caught up and, well you sick freaks can figure out the rest.

This is one of those rare "action movie love songs" that combines violence and romance in a way only possible in metal.
