While the previous song focused on 0, this one is narrated mostly from X's point of view. It goes into more depth about what this whole affair has done to 0, turning him into little more than a shadow, and X examines this by entering the 'land of shades.' Very good song. I especially like the last two lines. |

This seems to be the first song on the album to switch frequently between the perspectives of 'X' and '0.' The first verse starts off with X, having recently escaped from the prison. In the chorus, he reflects on his situation, and wishes that someone else could take his place and take the pain away from him, as seen in... "I wish you well, and that you're burning here in Hell instead of me." You could also interpret this to mean that he's seething in vengeful hatred against the people who wronged him and made him what he is, but certain interviews I've read suggest the former. Anyway, in the next verse, X gets a proper introduction. He arrives at the ship to find the desolate place lined with clues ("All the walls inside try to speak with me, beautify this spider's hole...") As X deciphers the clues, he begins to realise that he's not dealing with your typical killer here. 0's motivation is clearly more determined - and perhaps even more justified - than any case he's dealt with before. The last verse sums that up. |

| Exactly. Long story short, it's about losing your innocence. Definitely the best song on the album. | |
| Flaw – All The Worst Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I'm having a hard time seeing how this song could possibly SUPPORT the Iraq war... it's about how the world we've constructed brings out the worst in human behaviour (and war is one aspect of that behaviour.) When he says, "Making a stand, extending our hand, we must understand It's the least we can offer those less fortunate than us" He's just saying the we need to be much more charitable if we want to redeem ourselves. This theme is further reflected in the album's title track, 'Endangered Species.' |

This song is set well after Christ-0 has escaped from jail. It signifies his descent into madness; fueled by nothing but hatred and revenge, his alter ego '0' overwhelms his consciousness once more. His 'private picture dome' refers to the collection of old horror movies he has, his only companionship. The booklet that comes with the CD describes that here, he "sees the ghosts of the movie characters and finds he can join them in their world, becoming a shadow of himself and melding into the darkness that is no longer just a hiding place, but his home." X doesn't make an appearance in this song, but he does in the next (Shadow I Am), in which he explores the theme of shadows. |

| Vanden Plas – Christ 0 Lyrics | 19 years ago |

For those who don't already know, the album 'Christ-0' is based around the Count of Monte Christo. So if the lyrics don't make sense on the first read, that's probably why. This title track introduces 'Christ-0' during his imprisonment. Here he remembers his lover, and promises to himself that he'll meet her again, once he escapes. His thoughts turn to his 'friends,' the men who betrayed him to this living hell, and he vows to take back the life they stole from him. The muttered "Ghost ship... December 11, 2a.m. ... my name is X..." introduces the detective from Interpol who ends up hunting him down after he's committed these murders. The line makes more sense in the coming songs. |
