I started out out on this stuff. I remember Rick before the accident. The first 2 albums were the best. Hysteria and pyromania were good. After that it went down hill. Suddenly Joe sounded like bryan adams or was it the other way. Respect to Steve Clarke! |

Agreed. This was made apparent when the song was first released. You only need to read the lyrics to work out what the song is about. I think the lyrics are great. Try using them on a chavette, she'll take you for poet laureate!!!! |

This is one of my favorite Maiden songs. It's the first complete song I learned on guitar! I remember seeing Adrian with ASAP and spending a couple of hours with him and the band in the 'local' prior to the gig! I even got a pick! He played 'Wasted Years' and 'Back in the Village' during the set. 'Somewhere in time' remains one of my fave albums. Wasted years remains one of my favorite songs. The song has a self apparent meaning but will always remind me of the good old days. I love the way the song ends with the feed back on the fade out. |

OK. I think this song pretty much applies to most of us. I've read many of the threads here and such conjecture seems apparent. This album came out when I was in high school. I never gave it much thought then. Years later, my wife played the song and said it was about me! I guess many of us have been through a traumatic childhood that would reflect this songs lyrics. Yes, I'd say it applies to me also. Though my life is much different now and I control what I do and so on, back then it was pretty much as the song illustrates. It is a very emotional song for those who can relate to it, and in that sense, it will remain an epitaph to present and future generations. This, I feel is a homage to heavy metal in general as it reflects a socioligal need for the 'individual' to relate to to the constant angst of our times. The mainstream of music that remains an itch I can't reach, plasticates life and all its complexities. Long live metal! I lalso like the introduction to this song that reflects Ennio Morrocone's work. (check out 'Extasy of gold')... Carpe Diem! |

I'm agreeing with BlitZmat. I saw a docu on kerrang channel about lyrics. James appeared a few times. He commented about his lyrics and said pretty much what BlitZmat said. Basically, it's a personal song about James. 'Caught under wheels roll' is a saying. |
