For me this song is also about saying goodbye.
I think the drums sound like confusion and as if everything is going by so fast.
I think the voice really transmits the emotion of the song...Jonsi's voice sounds really desperate, as if he doesn't want to go, but he has no choice.
I guess it could also be about death and mourning (which somewhat ties in with the saying goodbye theme). |

I think that his use of "fuck you" is very appropriate in the relationship context. Sometimes you don't want to work things out or talk, all you want is to get away from the other person, for them to leave you alone. Sometimes "fuck you" is the only thing you can say with all the mixed emotions you're feeling. I think this song is about someone who just went through a hard breakup and is only now realising that he doesn't care about the past and doesn't want to have any contact with the other person. |
