| Jack Johnson – Sleep Through the Static Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I agree with just about everything that WakingFloyd said, except for the "cook all your books" expression. I do agree that society has dumbed down and the whole Britney Spears thing (WHO CARES!!!), but "cooking the books" is an accounting expression that means fraudulently altering financial statements. Enron and Worldcom were "cooking the books" in their scandals. I think its just another reference to society, similar to the Shock and Awe reference. | |
| O.A.R. – Mr. Moon Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| At a concert Marc said that this song is about how pitiful the world must look. We seem to handle all problems with war and violence. The song tells the story of how a boys perception of the world changes as he grows older. At first the world looks innocent and peaceful but it seems so violent when he grows older. The moon looks as if it's laughing at us (smiling down upon our war), but ultimately the moon is trapped. No matter what happens the moon can't escape the Earth so we can laugh at it. | |
| O.A.R. – Toy Store Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think this song is pretty simple. It's all about how people view problems with society. People usually only see two sides without the possibility of a grey area. The Toy Store is a metaphor for all the choices we have in life. What trips me up is the man walking down the aisle. Perhaps a store clerk being used as a metaphor for God? The clerk would help someone in making a decision at a store like God might guides a person's decisions in life. I'm not sure about the man but I am confident about the toy store and mom metaphors. Mom is a metaphor of society, telling you to make one choice or another |
