I think this song is pretty simple. It's all about how people view problems with society. People usually only see two sides without the possibility of a grey area.
The Toy Store is a metaphor for all the choices we have in life.
What trips me up is the man walking down the aisle. Perhaps a store clerk being used as a metaphor for God? The clerk would help someone in making a decision at a store like God might guides a person's decisions in life.

what a jip!! this song sounds so tight and then you find out its about buying toys?! the chorus is so right on when your trying to solve problems with folks who dont want to listen...except for the toy part.
yeah... the song is awesome... but why DID they have to make it about buying toys? I mean yeah, you can parallel it to life experiences and whatnot but when the parallel is toys... you just can't take it too serious
Are you kidding? It being about toy's makes it all the more symbolic, at least for me. Toys represent, fun, innocence and childhood.

I'm not really sure why because the lyrics don't support this but I've always had a feeling that this song was about drugs and going through rehab. Like you want toys but can't have them. I think the other posts make more sense but this is just how the song feels to me.
i always wonder what the part about the man walking down the asile with the smile means. to me it seems kinda unsettling
