| I love it. I think it is to friends, lovers, sisters, brothers. Any one that helps you get through the bad days. I did used to think it was about a lover but then I listened harder and I think the word they vow to never speak again is hate. When you are mad you tend to take it out on the people who are closet to you. It's about that connection you have with certain people, you dont' have to scream at them for them to know you aren't yourself right now. Such powerful lyrics. I love this song. | |

ok, i dont' understand what these lines could mean: "it's a backwards attraction to your forward eyes but you're so far-sighted that you can't place trust in what or who you recognize" My guess is that it's saying she is looking too far to the future for something or some one when he is right in front of her, now and she is over looking it. |

It is "But you can't think we fell in love" Not bet. That one word changes the whole song. I always thought it was about an attraction, mainly physical but it wasn't love. Maybe an affair because of the "at least I tryed to tell her about you." "what a surprise you lost your soul i tried and fell short and now that your blind you cant ignore" I think its like he tryed for love but fell short so it's no suprise she lost herself and is all alone now. Now that she's blind she can't ignore what they had. Only I think blind means completely clear headed. Then the "right before your eyes, how do you do" is saying well this is where we stand we might as well go on from here. That's my interpretation more or less. Love the song. I even think the instrumentals tell the story very well. |

I've heard this song hundreds of times (If not more) I've always wondered what the real meaning to the lyrics are. I've had a few ideas to a few lines but here is my basic view of it. It is about missing someone. "I'll be just fine pretending I'm not" Usually people are able to move on some what after a loss and be "okay" but he doesn't fully want to. He wants to hold on to the memories still. "I'm far from lonely but it's all that I've got" He's constantly remembering whoever it was he loss far from alone since his feelings towards them consumes him but that is all that he's got to hold on to. That's what I think basicly. I love the metaphore "So deep that it didn't even bleed and catch me So deep that I didn't even scream fuck me" Such a peircing pain that your body (heart) goes numb. You had no initial reaction to the pain because it was such a shock you couldn't even spit out the words fuck me. Eh, that's what I get from it. |

I have to say this is one of my top two favorite Incubus songs and in my top 3 favorite songs of all times. I love it. I heard it for the first time when I was at that part of my life, coming out of teen angst and into a more positive life style. It fits perfect. It's saying LIVE! Take it from others who are calling out the warning, life is too short. "Bat your eyes girl We'll be otherworldly Count your blessings Seduce a stranger What's so wrong with Being happy Kudos to those who See through sickness yeah" Flirt, be crazy, have fun, be grateful for what you have, why is it becoming such a trend to be depressed when we we have all this to be happy for. Kudos to those who on top of being sick are able to live their life to the fullest. When healthy people can take so much for granted. "I suggest we Learn to love ourselves before it's Made illegal When will we learn? When will we change? Just in time to See it all fall down Those left standing...will make millions Writing books on the way it should have been" My favorite verse of the song. It's asying the world is changing fast in every way. The government grasping our freedom, love ourselves before it's made illegal. It's an exaggeration of what's happening to us. When will we slow down our lifestyles and our way of thinking to enjoy life and stop taking it for granted? Only when we get a wake up call. Such as another stock crash, global warning, world war 3, ect. We only react when it's too late and the only lesson to come of it will be the people writing books on how it should have been. Still looking to the past instead of enjoying the now. "Floating in this Cosmic jacuzzi We are like frogs oblivious To the water Starting to boil No one flinches We all float face down" It's slowly coming to an end and instead of us doing something about it we are too self indulged in our daily lives to even realize it's happening. In the end we are all the same. So we are being warned to live our lives to the fullest because it is all we have. We don't want to end up looking back and thinking of how we could have lived when it's too late. This my interpretation of the song. I love it. I never knew the significane of 10:24 but the myan prohphecy sounds convincing. What ever the meaning is the message is clear. Live now before the aftermath. |

I always thought this song was about conforming. "Gravitated towards a taste For foreign films and modern plays But that machine could only Bend to squares five to six times Before your fingers came unwired...". BUT You can only be someone you are not for so long before the real you comes out. After that I think it's saying you can't move forward until you are yourself again. "Time passed and that was that Quite a slip (a loosened grasp) ... what a way to cut lengthwise" Whatever the reason there was a slip up in the act of conforming. What a way to cut length wise. What a way to try and be like everyone else instead of yourself. |
