distancing yourself from truth and other such inconveniences in order to be happy, even though it's ultimately no help since it isn't genuine happiness |

| Mineral – Gloria Lyrics

|
"Cause I just want to be
Something more than the mud in your eyes
I want to be the clay in your hands"
I don't want to be nothing to you. I want you to take me and make me something better, turn me into art -- your own creation. |

| Criteria – It Happens Lyrics

i think this is a song directed at comments made about steve pedersen and criteria, possibly about them being a "second string" band on saddle creek's roster |

| Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics

weird, I actually thought Brock would probably enjoy reading Bukowski and like him as a person. anyway most of Bukowski's work is garbage but this song is cool. hypocritical. but cool. |

| Mock Orange – Does It Show Lyrics

that's definitely a broad statement
anyways, this is a sweet song, sweet band too. can't get enough of this indiemo shit. |

wouldn't call it amazing.. but it's a nice and mellow break from all the chaos |

| Say Anything – The Word You Wield Lyrics

MAN THIS SONG MAKES ME WANNA FLOORPUNCH SOMETHING
oh and max bemis is such an asshole! and it's what makes this song so good |

| Say Anything – Chia-Like, I Shall Grow Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
|
i think this could be about max reflecting back on his life.. looking at old photographs and thinking of the greedy routes his siblings/old friends took while he chose to focus on a passion regardless of the money he could make with it. he's also saying "i won't spare you", meaning that he will show them even though he didn't start off making so much money he will eventually grow and grow with his talent |

| Say Anything – Every Man Has His Molly Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
LOL
is it just me or does like every say anything song have a comment that has to do with the recording industry.. i dislike it as much as the next guy but seriously, i'm sure max has other things running through his mind other than his intense hate for the main source of his income |

| Say Anything – An Orgy of Critics Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
yeah this is pretty much about critics not knowing how to really judge music..
"put your feather in your box
(take off, take off)"
^ i kind of think that has something to do with advance releases artists send to critics.. max uses 'feather' as a metaphor for record to show that to a music critic that's exactly how much music is worth.
"you brought me to my knees
your art it brought me to my knees"
^ i think that has something to do with those people who seem to just ignore music.. because sometimes there is one record that they stumble upon that makes them change their minds.
also sometimes when i'm listening to this i like to think they're railing against something like pitchfork ha ha |

| Say Anything – The Futile Lyrics

|
yeah stopdancego that was pretty good.. just long enough to be credible and short enough to not sound pretentious.. although it kind of seems like max is telling people how to live their lives, you can't really argue with his opinion |
submissions
| Say Anything – The Writhing South Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
i personally thought "i’ve got this red right hand that points me south"
was referring to the album cover.. some kind of vague allusion to his penis! but i don't listen to nick cave so, whatever |
submissions
| Say Anything – Woe Lyrics
|
|
the alliterations in the first verse are so good. i think the so-called "prostitute" part has something to do with the girls/guys in the scene.. the girls are forced to dress a certain way and the guys feel the need to be assholes and get in lots of fights.. so basically this song is max dishing out some hate on them |
submissions
| Say Anything – Belt Lyrics

i think the first line pretty much sums up the meaning. oh and i love this song mostly for the awesome verse repeating in the end |

| Brand New – Degausser Lyrics

this song has awesome crescendos and decrescendos. it kind of reminds me of radiohead because of all the self-doubt and paranoia in the lyrics |

| Iron & Wine – House by the Sea Lyrics
|
|
exactly ^. people may not be liking the new direction he took, but another "sam 'n' his banjo/guitar/etc" album would've gotten boring quick. if you don't like his approach on TSD then listen to his older albums? i'm thinking he would've experimented with his sound sooner or later anyway, if not on this album. anyways, this is probably one of my favorite songs on the new album including wolves and boy with a coin. |
submissions
| Jimmy Eat World – 23 Lyrics
|
|
this song's epic! always been my favorite on futures. i'm pretty sure it has something to do with 23 being the age where most people are near done with college, finally in the real world and still trying to figure themselves out and the people they love |

| The White Stripes – I'm Slowly Turning into you Lyrics
| 18 years ago

|
I love this song, one of the best on the new album. I'm pretty sure ^ has something to do with it, but if the rest of the album is anything to judge from, this song probably has some sort of political twist to it. |

tim is so scathing and cynical in this song, it's impossible not to love it |

| Cursive – The Night I Lost the Will to Fight Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
|
no offense, but it's pure sacrilege to have put a chris carabba post on this board. this song is about a relationship that has deteriorated up to the point where fighting becomes completely draining. this song is once again carrying on the theme of tim's failed marriage |
submissions
| Cursive – The Game of Who Needs Who the Worst Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
|
this song isn't better than the lament of pretty baby.. whoever said that must not be very familiar with cursive's catalogue. anyways, this song is simple, it's just exploring jealousy and what can happen to a person when they need something they shouldn't have to need.. hence the lines "The players, disguised as the lovers/The best friend/A game of who needs who the worst" |

ohhello, you must have great willpower, being able to sleep with anthony's whiny voice on in the background.
don't get me wrong, i'm a fan of circa survive. he makes pre-pubescent-like vocals sound cool |

| Circa Survive – Kicking Your Crosses Down Lyrics

yeah, this is indefinitely the best track from on letting go (album).
the album manages to completely avoid sounding pretentious, even though it's all a religious critique |

| My Bloody Valentine – Loomer Lyrics

although both JAMC and MBV came out of the post-punk movement, JAMC didn't start it 'all', if by 'all' you mean shoegaze. that was actually MBV, JAMC never had a shoegazing sound |
