Actually its not a gender-based thing its a structual thing. I read that Emily Haines had said (regarding this song), "What I realized is that I need a wife, and I'm not a lesbian"... This song is about the fact that she has realized why "men need wifes" and "why people need maids". The structure. It's about how men feel like they deserve a 'maid', woman, to serve them for they work they do but the maid, woman, feels like she is so tired and weak that she needs own too. The title kinda sums that up.

she's talked about this song in an interview and she said herself that she was NOT a lesbian. that would be pretty cool if she were though.
The lyrics 'bros before ho's' are not taken from a Neil Young song, the title is a play on his song A Man Needs a Made, but that song does not contain those words...'bros before ho's' is a vey recent popular saying.
i believe this is about double standards. guys put each other first, "hoes" are below them in a kind of way, and that males have the right to a maid to tell clean them, feed them, and be their stereotypical "housewives".
when she talks about how "you wouldn't need a real job/i'd love to pay for you", she's basically saying she wants a "housewife" to do all the same things to her, too.
I just read that the words "bros before hos" are taken from lyrics by neil young. does anyone know which song by Neil Young he was talking about? I'd like to compare it to understand better.
She said in an interview that it was a sort of play on a the Neil Young song The Man Needs a Maid and how by touring she begain to understand what he ment by the song.

Emily talked about this before, and though she was vague in her description (of course!) I still can form a little interpretation based off her words. I think that Emily is talking about the relationship a man has with his wife, and how she longs for that relationship, but as she can't obtain it, she feels like she wants a maid... or something...
