Chris Isaak – Somebody's Cryin' Lyrics 19 years ago
It seems that he and this woman were in a relationship... and she seems to have "lost the spark" or whatever term u wish to use. But...obviously, he has his doubts..he seems to think she could be fooling herself..but she doesnt wanna talk to him...so he's just pleading for her to come back or just tell him outright that it's over... coz...he "knows whem somebody's lying" all he needs to hear is 'yes' or 'no'.

Chris Isaak – Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing Lyrics 19 years ago
Isaak got the idea of this song from a chik he heard teeling off her little kid..she said "Baby did a bad bad thing". So the song just stemmed from there...it seems obvious he's been hurt emotionally by this woman mentioned:
"It hurts so bad when you finally know just how low she'll go."
I suppose the whole...asking a question and then answering it in ur own opinion..is a way to show just how deeply hurt he was...like, there is no room for reason, just what he thinks and how he feels.
I gotta say...The Best Of Chris Isaak Album, is awesome! I just got it today and loved it.

Mat Kearney – Wait Lyrics 19 years ago
Obviously, the song is about waiting. But for what? The return of Jesus. Kearney is saying how, despite his isolation in the world ('crowded room') he will wait for the Lord to come, and to take him away from this. "Wonderin whos gonna take me home" Christians see heaven as their true home..with their Father, God.
"I know when I've had enough
And I know it, and I know it" These lines..i can only realy relate to the passage in the Bible which states that the Lord will only put us through, whaat he knows we can handle.
A beautiful song, i love it! Almost brings a tear to my eye sometimes.

Mat Kearney – Chicago Lyrics 19 years ago
Another beautiful song from Kearney. Lyrics are riddled with biblical accounts. The water line..water being synonymous with the christian faith...cleanliness and baptism..new life. "My heart to ur wine" At the last supper Jesus used wine to substitute his blood, shed for us. "Step across the branches" a scene in the Bible where Jesus was greeted like a king..having palm frongs laid before his feet. "Stepping over my markers line" ...when Jesus drew the line in the sand. "Where a spark turns into fire" could simply mean jesus is the light of hope...even in the darkest of places (the 'backstreets'). I assume by all this...he is saying how real the Lord is. His connection with the Lord...following him through his journey. All of the scenes in the lyrics Jesus appaered in, and yet, here is Kearney also. Almost like the foot prints in the sand...he is always with us...no metter where we are or what we do.

Akon – Smack That (feat. Eminem) Lyrics 19 years ago
Tis most certainly not about Homosexuality "I see the one coz SHE be that LADY"..."Way SHE climbs"..."SHE'S like yoo"...now i may be naiive when it comes to songs like this...but the whole concept of the song is that blatantly obvious..even i got it...it's about strippers.. "money no problem, pocket full of that now"...they dont work for free. If it was love..as hottiewitabody suggested..there would be no need for financial reimbursements for sexual favours.

Anberlin – (The Symphony Of) Blase Lyrics 19 years ago
This song..i believe is about a friend of the bands...in an interview the band said it was about alcohol abuse...i suppose the song says how their attempts at helping the friend overcome the problem eventualy were exhausted..and it drove them apart.it was 'killing them inside'... but yes, this song is very ambiguous.....for instance..i had a personal tragedy, i suppose, in my life and this song was a perfect reciprocation of my feelings at the time.
A beautiful song none the less...tragic beauty..sounds emo, i know...but it is a beautiful song..despite the lyrical content

Mat Kearney – Call Me Lyrics 19 years ago
Once again, i must say that Mr Kearney is an absolutley brilliant contribution to the christian music scene. This song about the persecution of christians because of their faith. It draws on the biblical accounts of stoning christians "throw a stone disown me"..it's saying how through it all...the 'rain' the 'laughter and the tears', 'pain' and 'fears'...after it all ('the morning sun')the christian spirit never dies ('u'll see i didn't run') and how we will stand steadfast ('I'll stay, I'll wait right here').

The chorus is the pivotal message in the song....beautiflly succinct.."Call me anything but lonely" basically..."u can say wat u want bout what i beleive...but my lord is with me always'"

The second last verse, the one that talks about defeats, is another brilliant peice of Kearney imagery... scars are synonymous with the christian faith...the doubting disciples and the proof of Jesus' resurection and so forth. He's saying that although it's obvious he is subject to persecution...he uses it to reinforce the fact that through it all he will stand tall and stay true to his beliefs.
Remember: he never said it will be easy...he only said it would be worth it...

Mat Kearney – Girl America Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with ScottyT..this is a brilliant song...i loved his album Bullet. There was not a song on the album that i didnt enjoy...i love his voice and how he speaks up about issues that need to be adressed...in particular, Tomorrow...the comment he made in that song was awesome. As for this song...I have interpreted it more metaphorically than jasonjames88...not to disregard his idea on the meaning, by all means, his is also quite true. I see 'Girl America' as america, the country, itself...now, i'm not and american..im australian, so my point of view will be different....but the way i see it, calling it 'girl' shows a certain tenderness and love..fatherly love. I think Mat is saying how he loves the country, but is devistated about the corruption in it...thinking about it..America is a reasonably young country...it has been through a lot...they dont teach us american history here...only values...but it goes without saying..America had a well documented and extensive history...this is the 'age behind her eyes'. 'Natural born leader' we all rekon america is the super power of the world...so fair comment there...Kearney speaks of the corruption in more specific terms...such as pornography, drugs, the media and so forth. Basically the song is a shout out to all those americans who are struggling with their faith...he's saying that in this world of temptation there are brighter days ahead and that it is truly noble to hold onto ur standars and beliefs..
"It's not the circumstances that determine who you're gonna be
But how you deal with these problems and pains that come your way "
I love those lines...so true. The final verse is just beautiful....the thought provoking imagery is spectacular...

Underoath – A Boy Brushed Red ... Living In Black And White Lyrics 19 years ago
Underoath, i was suprised to hear, were signed with christian labels such as tooth and nail, and solid state. This song is about giving into sexual sin. About giving into the carnal mind and rejecting ur faith. it tells of the inevitable consequenses of such libidinous and lustful acts. How the participants become empty...hollow...dead, spiritually. In "we both ignored the truth"..jesus is described as "the way, the TRUTH and the life" by engaging in these acts they are ignoring the physical carnation of God...Jesus. Ultimately...it doesnt work...once again, the consequence of blatant disregard of the boundaries for sexual relations.

Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics 19 years ago
This song draws on the most carnal and primitive instincts of man. The guy is going right back to his roots...the whole male superiority and use of sex in order to abtain a direct path to heaven...as in an orgasm being realted to the highest possible feeling of spirituality and closest connection to God: "You bring me closer to god". Devil worship..no..Paganism..in its rawest, most pure form, yes. The pagans are one with nature, hence "like an animal". "your sex i can smell" also reinforces the primitive..more cerebellum based thoughts...animals release pharemones when in heat or in the mood..so to speak.
"all through every forest
above the trees
within my stomach
scraped off my knees
I drink the honey
inside your hive"
Once again, the mentioning of nature and honey (a natural antisceptic and preservative) further demonstrates a paganistic outlook towards love.

Eric Prydz – Call On Me Lyrics 19 years ago
answer to ilikestuffandyou's plea...this song, given the lack of lyrical content..one can only assume it is about a guy shouting out..asking the girl to come back to him..or to seek him out....possibly she thinks he's changed and as such no longer is in contact..yet he believes he is "the same boy".

Mat Kearney – Tomorrow Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a beautiful song to listen to. An excellent song of social comment: Abortion. Kearney, as a Christian would obviously feel stongly about an issue such as this. The song follows an unexpected pregnacy..not through rape, but two people who obviously liked eachother: "Because two came together so strong one night". Kearney is striving to give "a voice to the voiceless"..he is saying that chosing termination is a crime to the child (if you are interested at all in this subject, Poet, Bruce Dawe, has written several excellent poems on the issue). Kearney impliments a metaphorical situation, based on the well known Les Miserables. Here a lady has a child (Cossette..also mentioned in the lyrics) out of wedlock and is persecuted for it, yet receives salvation from her actions by her employer Jean Valjean (a man who also has a shady past). This song is a shout out to all those who have been blessed with the gift of a child, even though the context and circumstances in which it came to be were not ideal. He wants us to realise the importance of a life...and that death is not our decision to make...i suspect it can also be linked to the "god has a plan for you..plans to prosper you" verse in the bible.

The Knack – My Sharona Lyrics 19 years ago
This song, is, no doubt a very catchy one. I only really got into it at a work party and it is an excellent song to dance to. In terms of its lyrics, they portray a guy who has extremely carnal intentions with...i assume, a minor...or a lady younger than himself: "Always get it up for the touch of the younger kind"..obviously..his feelings have not been reciprocated by the lady...as such he is not sure where they stand: "Here's a trip to destiny to destiny.Or is it just a game in my mind Sharona?". Despite the somewhat disturbing lyrical contant, a totaly awesome song!
