I wrote a short sermon on this song: I love the lyrics to this song. I think it describes a place we all often find ourselves at, but we rarely realize we are there, and even fewer songs are written about to describe it, or if we do know that is where we are, we don’t know how to describe it. It is that stage between not caring about God, and wanting God, it is the wanting to yearn stage. We tend to go through 3 major stages in our walk: 1) we want nothing to do with God. 3) We want God, we yearn for him. But 2 is one we don’t realize often, 2 is wanting to yearn for God, or wanting to want him. So many times we are here, and we just don’t know where we are. We want to want God, but we just don’t quite want him yet. “Lord I want to yearn for You, I want to burn with passion over you and only you”. |

I also think he does talk about it in the beginning, listen to this our of 2 Samuel 4:4: 4 (Jonathan son of Saul had a son who was lame in both feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she hurried to leave, he fell and became crippled. His name was Mephibosheth.) Now contrast to the first few lines: Wounded and forsaken/I was shattered by the fall. Now look at 2 Samuel 9:1 - 3, 5 - 7 1 David asked, "Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan's sake?" 2 Now there was a servant of Saul's household named Ziba. They called him to appear before David, and the king said to him, "Are you Ziba?" "Your servant," he replied. 3 The king asked, "Is there no one still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show God's kindness?" Ziba answered the king, "There is still a son of Jonathan; he is crippled in both feet." 5 So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel. 6 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, "Mephibosheth!" "Your servant," he replied. 7 "Don't be afraid," David said to him, "for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table." Now look at this: Broken and forgotten/Feeling lost and all alone/Summoned by the King/Into the Master’s courts Leeland just makes it more personal to us the, when he makes it about us an God. |

| The idea of being carried to a table to which we don't belong, is true. I saw them in concert with Casting Crowns, and in concert Leeland talked about the story in Samuel, and likened it to being at the table of the Lord, i.e. being somewhere we don't belong. Where is the table of the Lord mentioned in revelation? I don't remember anything about it in there, and i did a bible gateway search for "Table" "Lord's Table" "Feast" "Banquet" and Seated" there was nothing turned up for us sitting at the table of the Lord there. | |

1) lastrockshowroadie, what kind of band they are does make a differenct to the song and it's meanings, if they are a christian band, then the meanings of the lyrics can change. If i say "I love Dana." Most of the world assumes that is my g/f or whatever. But if you knew that it was my sister, that changes the whole meaning.
