Norma Jean – Vipers, Snakes, and Actors Lyrics 17 years ago
from the Revolver Interview:

OK, so what is “Vipers, Snakes and Actors” about?
BRANDAN It’s a very pissed-off song. We’re Christians, so we’re kind of tied to every Christian. And I don’t like most Christians. [Laughs] The lyrics are “Carry your flag/March into that fictional battle, or fictional cause/Show off your medals.” It’s kind of like saying, “Dude, if you’re gonna do all those things, if you’re gonna wave your flag around, you know what? Go ahead.” But then the next lyric is, “Just don’t reach for that gun.” Which is basically saying like, “Don’t point it at me.” Everybody’s going through something different—religion aside, as humans we should know that about each other. I believe in Jesus, and Jesus didn’t shun anybody. He went to bars and hung out with the most hated people. And people would ask him, “Why are you even hanging out with these people?” And he had one of the most awesome answers ever, which was “A healed person doesn’t need a doctor.” That’s so cool. Nobody’s healed, you know?

Norma Jean – Self Employed Chemist Lyrics 17 years ago
From a Revolver Interview:

OK, so with “Self-Employed Chemist,” what is that song about?
BRANDAN Well, what do you think when you hear “Self-Employed Chemist”?

Drugs.
BRANDAN Yeah, that’s pretty much what it is. The song’s kind of…I don’t know how far I should go into what that song’s about. [Pauses] It just basically deals with a person that I was with for a long time…one of the mothers of my kids. She struggled with addiction for eight years. And I saw her go through that. I was very much in love with her, so it comes from that. She’s just recently gotten over it, and she’s doing really well. I’m super-proud of her, and she’s been doing so amazing. I can really see a change in her. One of the lines in the song is “We’re coming back to collect that killer.” And that’s inspired by a thing she said to me when she cleaned up.

As I Lay Dying – The Truth of My Perception Lyrics 18 years ago
The thing about the capitalization of "You".

The singer, being a christian, probably was reffering to God, but he intentionally says "You" instead of "God" so that the listener can apply it to their own life. It's ambiguous so it could relate to a girl or guy depending on the listener.

As I Lay Dying – Reflection Lyrics 18 years ago
The Whole Album of Shadows are Security has a central theme of a placing too much emphasis on things that don't really matter, or things that will pass away. So this song seems to fit in as he's reflecting (see what i did there...the song's called reflection....it's clever, trust me) on a time in which he was really stressed out or depressed ("with mistaken guilt and shame"..... "
against this endless ocean of self defeat") over something that he now realizes wasn't important.

some months are yet to pass
puddles of ink
surround this tired chair
all of my sorrow has been spilled
into my reflection

I think this is showing that time has passed, and that through writing this song (ink puddles) he's managed to get through it.

Zao – Kathleen Barbra Lyrics 18 years ago
for those of you who didn't take eight years of college English, i've looked up the definition of entropy.

"Inevitable and steady deterioration of a system or society." that seems to be the most relevant meaning to the song.

Zao – Live...From The Funeral Of God Lyrics 19 years ago
Ddadutta. You are right, but this album is based on a "what if" scenario. What if god went to sleep forever. What kind of crap would we be in. And it would suck.

Does anyone know wht this line means?

"Angels a stage that never ending hell in your eyes."

I don't really understand the grammar. Like could anyone summarise what that's saying, or rephrase it.

As I Lay Dying – The Pain Of Separation Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm gonna just ignore the whole atheist outcry. They'll believe God exists eventually, whether before or after they die.

I get the refferences to Jesus on the cross, But i also believe the song is about a guy talking to god about his longing to be in heaven and to be taken away from earth.
"when will i be taken from this life"

As I Lay Dying – Song 10 Lyrics 19 years ago
"Why the big deal about Christian bands???? Just because they are christion doesn't mean they are incapable of writting songs about anything else." Thank you. thank you. This needs to be a notice shown at the top of every christian band's page.

On a different note, I would have loved if this song was like number 9 on the CD.

In response to cpt blood
"I dont think this is a Christian band, but Dallas Was part of Underoath, which Is a Christian band, so he may be slipping in some Christian themes right under our noses."

Maylene is a christian band. there is religious meaning in most if not all of the songs... plus wikipedia calls them christian, for what it's worth.

I gotta go with Axe warrior on the "book that's warned me of you" thing. The line before "heretics claiming teh savior as their own" actually could support that. In the end times, when the antichrist shows up, alot of people will think the antichrist is the messiah.

but i still don't understand this line
"Angels a stage that never ending hell in your eyes."
