the more i think about it, the more i'm convinced that corgan just might have based this song on the romanian revolution of 1989. a famous piece of grafitti on bucharest university walls compared the bullets of ceauşescu's army fired on unarmed civilians to floating butterflies. the vampire reference also alludes to the insane dictator and the country itself. and i daresay he had a bit of a god-complex hence the last few lines. 'faking the show' and 'keeping cool' can also be connected to ceauşescu's propaganda and public charisma. and the lines 'and what do you want, i want to change' pretty much sums up the soviet/warsaw pact states of mind at the time.

Although I'm not positive, I think Damien Rice wrote this specifically for the film 'Mickybo and Me.' And that's basically what it's about: two little boys who are best friends and get into trouble together but the turmoil in N Ireland eventually alienates them from eachother. Brilliant film, brilliant song - I only wish I could get my hands on it. |

I can see the reincarnation theme...it's interesting that "womb" happens to rhyme with "tomb". The English language is fascinating at times. Great song...loved it in "Billy Elliot". |
