Exodus – Class Dismissed (A Hate Primer) Lyrics 15 years ago
"We decided to give everybody another taste of the new record… and it's about one of America's favorite pastimes, the school shooting. This song was primarily inspired by the massacre at Virginia Tech, as well as Columbine and the many other instances of unhinged individuals who decided to take out their wrath on their classmates, going all the way back to [University of Texas at Austin’s 1966 tower sniper] Charles J. Whitman." -- Gary Holt

Exodus – March Of The Sycophants Lyrics 15 years ago
"This was written after the 2008 Election, while watching angry mobs of white people, afraid of change, & the town hall meeting of old senior citizens screaming out against socialism all the while screaming for the government to keep their hands off of their socialized medicare." -- Gary Holt

A sycophant is a self-seeking,servile flatterer; fawning parasite.

The "plumber" refers to the right wing's metaphor for middle-class Americans. And the "small-minded rifle-packing hag" is a reference to vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin.

Also it describes the band's view of politicians that try to act Christian and hide behind the bible when acting the way they do as well as all the mindless sheep in the public that fall in line blindly and have no awareness of what is really going on.

Five Finger Death Punch – Hard To See Lyrics 16 years ago
"It's about seemingly irresolvable differences. It's valid in just about any setting: politics, religion, relationships… Everything is 'only an opinion' based on limited information, yet people sometimes get attached to their point of views to the extreme…in fact, to the point they would launch wars over them." -- Zoltan Bathory

Trivium – Into The Mouth Of Hell We March Lyrics 17 years ago
The band is on a ship and then a storm, throwing everything at them (lightning, thunder, waves, torrential rain, et al) and them shipwrecking them on an island. They then move ahead with where the storm took them and when things get back to normal, the experience makes them stronger.

In summary, adversity can & will come at all of us in every shape & size but it is up to us to decide how we deal with it, what doesn't kill us will only make us stronger. The song also tries to teach us, vicariously, to make the most of our lives with the time that we have because we will never know when it will be our time to go.

DevilDriver – Not All Who Wander Are Lost Lyrics 18 years ago
This song looks at life through the eyes of someone determined to live in the moment.

"A lot of people get overwhelmed with life & what they're going to do 20 years from now, & often they're the ones who are going to die early from heart attack & stress. I'm one of the people who look at things on a daily basis & don't get swept up in what's yet to come." -- Dez Fafara

Machine Head – Aesthetics Of Hate Lyrics 18 years ago
"Aesthetics Of Hate" is a response to William Grim, who wrote an article on his website, The Iconoclast, titled "AESTHETICS OF HATE: R.I.P. DIMEBAG ABBOTT, & GOOD RIDDANCE", attacking Dimebag Darrell the day he was murdered & attacking the metal community as a whole for paying homage and respect to the slain guitarist. To say that Flynn was angry at Grim is an understatement, but you can't blame him. Flynn looked up to Dimebag as countless metalheads did.

Chimaira – Resurrection Lyrics 19 years ago
"It's a document of the last 5 years. We're saying 'fuck all the bad times' & that we're in a much better place right now, that song kind of sets up the theme of the entire record, really." -- Mark Hunter.

To sum it up, the song is about the band's 5-year stint with Roadrunner Records. The band felt Roadrunner Records was treating them like shit by keeping them in the backseat to other bands on the label. Ever since they left Roadrunner to join Ferret Records (For U.S. Distribution) & Nuclear Blast Records (For International Distribution), the band has felt they were free & rejuvenated.
