Very intense song! Saw these guys open up for FEEDER at Brixton when I was in the UK on holiday. They were damn tight live and good act to open up for Feeder. Bought a few CD's the next day. Been listening to this song a fair bit and reading the references you guys have said you probably spot on. Taking a less literal stance to Charlie's meaning, it would come across as revenge on a rapist or abusive man against a women's free will, the women being extremely close to that of the guy taking the revenge to the accused. Screaming has its place in this type of music without a doubt and the aggression and intensity in the vocal and music delivers that interpretation to me. |

Its definitly a certain song drawn to Love! This seems to me always that song of finding one you really and deeply Love and can see a future ahead with you and that person. You see all this and Love them so much, and despite the darkness, pain, and scars from past tension (any fears which is natural with Love) you overcome those as you just want that person to show their devotion and utter Love to you. You want that person to just take your hand and 'ride', or leave as one and start a life as one and hope they Love you dearly too that it will be! I heard this song at the end of a Scrubs episode and did some research as to who was the artist. Its the episode where JD & Julie breakup. Lyrically it is a great song and when I heard the version with the drums and bass addition it was great! |

This is a special song to me as my girlfriend and I overtime have made it one of our special songs! I always did like the Episode 4 idea of Star Wars 'a new hope'... lyrically for us it spoke of 'how i almost lost my will to live' as we entered each others lives at just the right time, during a very rough patch in both our lives & long down the line we've achieved so much in our relationship & have so much to live for! the pool represents being each others company and discovering Love, the pool is a pool of Love and as we're there we stay warm with closeness...the trip to outter space is just exploring each others minds and just having pure focus on each other so much so we drift away (into space) & no day to day matters affecting our Love in these moments. Brushing away the sand (the past) from our feet (our future path) and walking a new life as one. The dance off time is merely that feeling of who cares we can overcome anything through Love, even the simplest thing such as dancing to the songs we cant stand (literally in this example but you get it) ...and sing off key is really being focused on each other so much that nothing matters, just our Love... Obviously overtime our Love has deepened and changed but its still really special to look over the lyrics of this great song and see how it so related to me in the early days! Thats my interpretation! |

So many people have taken the 'Comfort in sound' songs only from a perspective of Jon. Grant never intended this. I believe everyone can totally personalise each song to their own. They way i read it an have always felt about this song is that this couple/friends etc... are trying to Live without pain and drama, just free their minds, put aside the pain and just live today in happiness. The verses show efforts of communication to reach new horizons...find new ground to grow from, talk and be honest to fill the emptiness which has appeared due to lack of communication and as they strive to brighten their relationship the split, distorted images fade into one. With the image as one, seeing the relationship as it should be, clear and honest, the day feels good and they feel freedom within their minds as theyve reached new horizons...they've reconnected & its important to focus on 'the now' & not tomorrow. The interude lyrics show the pain felt, the falling apart inside, the confused emotions, the tears.. the angels tears can cleanse them and they want to be in the image as one, 'bring us back again' The new day is a new beginning, and they will do anything for one another to ensure this day is blessed with happiness 'refer to on the edge for you' (verse2) and 'the day comes in, morning sings' etc.. Thats my breakdown of this really good Feeder song. |

This song is very good musically but yes lyrically just doesnt quite make it. Grant wrote it as a tongue in cheek sort of song on Feeders situation when they were struggling to get noticed and seeing other bands like Skunk Anansie, Smashing Pumpkins just become so elevated in their music. Tangerine was obviously his way of explaining how he saw the band maybe compared to the other bands they were musically genered too. They were the tangerine, the fruit turning green, the off fruit amongst the lot.Possibly? |

I find its similair to Comfort in sound lyrically, not as nearly well written but still close. You feel so low sometimes you cant quite put pieces together and you cant pick yourself up even though you have to. You feel so down and you feel even worse when you see happiness in what you perceive to be 'the ideal world', what you want or where you want to be. however when you hear music, create music or are surrounded by euphonic sounds, (even nature sounds) it becomes your stereo world and allows you to dream and just drift away..and as you drift away the sounds explode and just make you feel so good and so comforted and at peace. |

Quiet a dreamy ambient song. Lyrically very fitting to. I guess its thats feeling of being lost, and feeling that you are being laughed at in your struggles to get 'get home', find your feet. You feel so disorientated you maybe feel like you are stoned, you struggle and struggle and feel you need to change your ways in your life, to find a happier more meaningful purpose and oath to life. the lyrics are 'looking at all of your friends, wishing you could be like them', i have to acoustic recordings of this Bside to Echo Park and thats what is sung. Looking at the lyrics it seems a case of wanting to be so much more than what you are, whenever you try to make something more of your life you slip and fall (running on glass floors), you then blame others (swimming in oceans of blame) and become defensive (wrap your heart in chains) to avoid hurt and criticism therefore restricting yourself. You just want others to get inside your head, be empathetic and somehow just bring back positivity and hope into your life. (chorus) Verse2: Possibly with your lows you just want each day to end, you dwell upon your struggles and your mind then plays games with you (thoughts that invade) and you even neglect those close to you, even yourself (smother you and everyone) Your feelings are insecure and as they deepen you feel poisened and that pain is mounting as you try to better your life. This song inpired the title for 'Yesterday went too soon', A) because it says 'cause yesterday went away too soon and B) its lyrical content fits very well with YWTS...Grant stated this btw. I agree, this is Feeders most incredible slow song, highly emotional and beautiful. 'Swim-Resurfaced' is an incredible CD capturing Feeders softest well composed songs and creativly heavy songs. This song i interpret although only one part i relate too, i see it as a case of possible regret hanging over your life, you've hurt someone or they've hurt you and to FORGIVE may be too hard to bring yourself to do or you dont know if that person ever has forgiven you...maybe that chance to forgive is no longer possible in this life. the second may be a distant memory with childlike innocence which was really amazinfg and comforting but without Forigveness its turning that memory and happiness to stone. Then you wish you were forgiven, to part the waters that are affecting a part of your journey in life.. you want to reach out and just explain to that person how much they meant to you when things were happy. Now you wish when forgiveness was possible you'd aksed for it to clear your mind and move on. To me i think these lyrics are incredible: You heal the scars I hide You drink the tears I cry I'm reaching out to touch The angel of my life\ I find when you find the person in your life who is just your everything they can heal your scars in time, will be there when you cry and when you reach out for them they are always there like a guardian angel to Love you and be there for you always. |

What a beautiful song. Very well sung too. Its lyrically very eerie and very indirectly written. I can relate well to the pre-chorus and chorus though. The way i see its meaning is: 'See me as I wait See me wait I can't see another See me wait Forever' When you take a step back in trying to find possibly Love and that one you want to spend your life with. You wait and pray they see you as while you wait you cant see another, you only want to see that person and that person to see you, you will wait for them forever.... then the chorus...'Open your arms Just see how it is' This could be you've found the one and you just want that person in your life but you still wait to see if its blazing inside of them too, you want them to open their arms, take you in and see how it feels to be together in friendship and romance. Sure grant had his own meaning which he definitly keeps personal but this is my idea on its meaning in parts. |

Sometimes we end up in situations that affect us very deeply and despite the fact we struggle to handle it, others may see you as over-reacting or they just cant relate..you sit dwelling upon your situation and struggles, your mind plays games with you, you start to feel like your going insane, you cant reach the pain in you and end it, but feel on your own you can heal it and with your own efforts you can be yourself...possibly an outside affect and they lie to you telling you its your own faults but you feel otherwise...on your own you can overcome it and you want to shout...you live with my pain and the mind games im having... You feel like you are descending, constantly falling. Not a happy song at all but absolutly a solid rock song, Grant still finding that amazing melody amongst a dark verse. Very well written lyrics atleast. Great album is 'Swim' too. |

Most of newer Feeder lyrics have Jon in Grants approach. The lyrics can be related to many situations but to me the 'Comfort in sound' can be musically surrounding yourself and finding the comfort in matching the music to your moods or the sound being the words from a Loved one or person encouraging you, comforting you in an anxious, or difficult time in your life. Also there's evidence when ever we meet someone there is a fact of fate, be it good or bad, it may open a door leaving behind a dark past or (i use Jon as an example) Grant meeting Jon, 'shake new hands', it opened a door to music but fate entered...Jon left but the comfort in sound can be found and with that fate new songs and sounds were born. Its a nice song as something can be taken from each verse and built on so much. |

Grant did mention once 'Chicken on a bone' is an analogy to how he felt when he moved from Wales to London, England...all of a sudden being thrown in the deep end and seeing all he aimed to achieve and strive to (possibly musically) but it was seeming so far away to be achieved, he was in Big place with opportunity and possibly felt disorientated. To me its when you desire something so much, you have the vision, you cant hold it in, you want to speak about, let it out so maybe you will be heard and a path will open you can follow to reach that dream and make it reality, like anything you aim to achieve it seems so near in your vission and attainable but it seems so far in the sense that hard work takes time and effort and those dreams arent always a pleasant ride, tears can be shed, emotions run high and you can feel lost but that vission stays. |
