| Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – I Don't Wanna Pray Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is such a refreshing, light-hearted take on spirituality. | |

| Such an adorable throwback! Simplicity and a summer feel at their best! | |
| Miike Snow – God Help This Divorce Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
The sun sets for so long on these streets So many beautiful faces that don’t need me Papers and little useless things Slide down along the pavement away from me Taking my tea in silence Telling strange jokes to myself God help this divorce, God help this divorce She was a beauty queen But, I held her down, down, down I held her down, down, down I held her, I held her Me without a family Yeah, I held her down, down, down I held her down, down, down I held her, I held her Go to the bar and say semi-sexist things Taking my tea in silence Telling strange jokes to myself God help this divorce, God help this divorce She was a beauty queen But, I held her down, down, down I held her down, down, down I held her, I held her Me without a family Yeah, I held her down, down, down I held her down, down, down I held her, I held her |

| Florence + the Machine – Leave My Body Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I absolutely agree with the metaphysical comments. This song is, at least to me, clearly about reaching enlightenment. When you meditate, regardless of spirituality, the goal is to reach this place where you are beyond dimension, beyond language even, and I really think that is what the song is about: Finding light, enlightenment, God, ohm, peace, revelation, etc. | |

From the band's website: One love, One love Carries on One Touch, one touch Carries on One look, one look Carries on (Chorus) One Smile When can you give me, when can you give me Touch me Can you give me, oh can you give me Love me Come and give me, oh can you give me some Of the gift that carries on One word, one word Carries on One smile, one smile Carries on One love, one love Carries on (Chorus) x2 |

| Broken Social Scene – Romance to the Grave Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I absolutely love the last two lines "I don't live for all that died. I just want to feel it again." I was in a relationship years ago, and after it ended I've spent this whole time trying to get it back and was told that we changed and are different people, and that may be so, maybe the old us died and I'm not looking for *that* - I just want to have that feeling back. | |
| Broken Social Scene – Sweetest Kill Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is so different for Broken Social Scene. Kevin Drew's vocals on this song are amazing and the arrangement and tenderness makes this song very powerful; at least to me. | |
| Rilo Kiley – A Better Son/Daughter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Not necessarily bipolar. She does a good job of keeping it open so that an entire generation can identify with her. It could be depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, PTSD, etc, etc. Also the whole song is just so amazing and SO many people can identify. I LOVE this song. I feel like she is singing out of my heart. | |

| Peacekeeper - Fleetwood Mac, much? I love this song. | |
| Rachael Yamagata – Worn Me Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Classic. Plain and simple, this song [the version from Rachael Yamagata EP] is a testament to Rachael as an artist. She blows out of the water much of the "competition", old and new alike. She may not have a lot of popularity in the mainstream, but she is impeccable. A younger, more raw Sarah McLachlan, in my opinion. This song is OUTSTANDING. | |
| Rachael Yamagata – Horizon Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is subtly climactic and has an incredible amount of emotion. "If I had known forever After we would stay apart I would have whispered All the things I can’t tell you now" That stanza epitomizes the song for me, and in keeping with much of her music, manages to paint a picture both beautiful and outstandingly tragic. |

| Rachael Yamagata – The Other Side Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is relatively easy to understand, and is just a testament to love. She loved someone and now the relationship is over. She can be happy and move on, but she will always love him no matter where life takes her. I think that just speaks to human nature. I was in love once, and our relationship is over and we hardly ever talk anymore. I am starting to see someone else now, and I am truly getting over the initial emotional turmoil that is inevitable, but regardless, part of me wants to go back, and I will always have a love for him. The part of this song that really "gets me" so to say, in terms of evoking emotion, is "You were supposed to come with me, all I ever wanted was to be with you". It's like she was abandoned, and it's tragic and sad. | |
| Rachael Yamagata – Answering the Door Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
If I could save you boy I'd do it a thousand times over And finally someday it seems that I meant you well But I'm not answering the door We've been this way even more Time won't be cruel if you let it go this way And holding on Holding on Holding on There’s something inside Close to me Don't slip away You've been my whole life But I'm not answering the door She's leaving inside even more Time won't be cruel if you let it go It's way I'm letting it today And don't Damn me Down Falling like leaves when they're trading some piece of sky for the ground It catches so well after waiting So long But If I could save you boy I'd do it a thousand Thousand times and maybe in time you would see I've made up my mind But I'm not answering the door She's leaving inside even more I'm not answering the door 'cause she's leaving inside even more And if I could save you I'd do it a thousand times |

| Rachael Yamagata – Sidedish Friend Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is incredibly catchy, and very unique. Two people who are both either afraid of commitment or insecure about each other have carved out a relationship where they both want each other when it is convenient, though I think there is definitely the hint that, potentially, there could be more if there was a little more honesty and communication. At the end of the day though, they can both turn around and move on at any time. It's a great song, and to me, shows the tragedy and "complex simplicity" of some types of modern relationships. Maybe this is just a sexual thing and they don't want to involve emotions, but that may be inevitable to an extent... Overall I just love the song. | |
| Rachael Yamagata – Quiet Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this is hands-down one of Rachael's best. This song is stunningly beautiful and equally as tragic. To me, it is about someone choosing something in their life - something negative - over you, when you have been there through thick and thin, but now at the end you realize there was NOTHING you could do to change them, they will continue on a self-destructive path "It'll be just as quiet when I leave, as it was when I first got here". Also, for me, the bridge of this song is beyond heartbreaking and so profoundly tragic it takes my breath away. The almost mumbled, hurried words leading up to "would you feel the same, as I walk out the door... never to see your face again, no, never to see your face again.." Gorgeous and a true testament to Rachael as well as a treasure to modern music. |
