| Spoon – I Could Be Underground Lyrics

|
this song is also on drake tungsten's ep (britt daniel's side project) and the first line of the other version is "Well I want to get messed up on drugs." I think that reveals that this song is about a drug addiction and the real-life problems one faces when struggling just to survive through the addiction. I guess it's just a criticism on the complications of maintaining a relationship when so many other tempting things are trying to lure you away from her. I think "I Could Be Underground" is talking about how he is contemplating doing drugs in his basement and being in his room with his girlfriend. |

I think it's a radio station, mainly because the song is AM rather than a.m. Anyways, it's hard to tell what this is about, possibly a criticism of today's popular music (compared to when radio was only AM) or maybe just Spoon's frustration because of their lack of radio play. |

| Spoon – You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb Lyrics

I agree. The cherry bomb is a symbol of explosion like you said but also of how their love is almost systematic in the sense that its fuse is slowly burning away until it completely explodes. I think he is saying that they need to face the facts and call it off before the bomb burns the whole way through. |

I love this song. It looks like it is about what goes on during those years where you are stuck in early adulthood and still trying to figure yourself out. It is a confusing period where you undergo a lot of change and even your friends can no longer recognize you. And then the line, "another uninnocent, elegant fall into the unmagnificent lives of adults." Absolutely amazing. Similar to Mr. November off Alligator because it deals with the painful process of moving on. |

| Belle & Sebastian – A Century of Elvis Lyrics

The last line is interesting because, if you believe Elvis is truly a cat, then Stuart believes that the cat that keeps on visiting him at night is a reincarnation of his father. I'm not sure why but that is one of the most touching lines I have ever heard, and he never even told Elvis... |

I agree, Garden State sucks. What I took from this song is really similar to what everyone else said, but I think his whole sequence of thoughts is just what goes through his mind every time he gets high and wonders what he's accomplished in life so far as well as where his life is heading. |

| The Hold Steady – Hornets! Hornets! Lyrics

The last line is both hilarious, sad, and absolutely brilliant at the same time. It's kind of like, "Oh, by the way, I almost died last night." You kind of get the idea that it's nothing out of the ordinary, it probably happens every day. The lives that the characters Finn sings about in all his albums are fascinating. |

| The Hold Steady – Barfruit Blues Lyrics

this song drastically shifts its focus at the line "that's not how he planned it." The first half is about how much fun partying can be. He talks about "kids with broken hearts, kids with broken bones," but somehow manages to put a positive image on seemingly awful things and caps it off with "she had a confidence smile and a nervous cough. and we got off," hinting at how all these crazy activities bring out the best in people. A lot of The Hold Steady songs focus on the ups and downs of such a wild life, and the second half focuses on that. The last 7 or 8 lines are pretty obvious and just show that there are highs and then there are lows to going out and getting trashed every night. |

| Peter Bjorn and John – Up Against the Wall Lyrics

I think it's a story, each verse is another step in the ending of a relationship. He starts by screening her calls because, like mumbles says, it's close to the end of the relationship, then the confrontation, then the "slap just like a wake-up call" and it's over.
The music is brilliant in this song, it captures the tone perfectly, I love it. |

| Britt Daniel – Let The Distance Bring Us Together Lyrics

The whole song is probably about a girl he loves that he was once in a relationship with. He doesnt say anything about a breakup but the title of the song suggests that maybe she had to leave permanently for whatever reason and it's eating away at both of them- "Now everyday you feel a bit less." I think the part about the picture has to do with reminding her of that one point in time that a picture captures and how wonderful things used to be when they were together. |

There's a strong sense of confidence in this song, whether britt's voice, the pace of the music, or the "WOO" or "ma ma ma"'s in the song. They recreate that feeling you get when it's just you and the road and you're blasting an amazing song and you're just pumped up, forgetting about any worries or problems you have in life. Nothing can ruin a moment like that, and all from a song that barely surpasses 90 seconds. |

| Spoon – Loss Leaders Lyrics

Fred Hampton was the leader of the Black Panther Party. I guess the first line talks about what music really means and how it temporarily separates us from our troubles. The rest of the song is pretty confusing but obviously "Loss Leaders" is a reference to Fred Hampton and how he was assassinated, something the last line talks about. I don't completely understand the chorus |

| Okkervil River – It Ends with a Fall Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
There's a huge recurring theme in almost all Okkervil albums about impossible or irretrievable love and how hard it is to deal with. Black Sheep Boy was all about a man watching a woman fall in love with the wrong man (For Real, Song of Our So-Called Friend, A Stone, So Come Back, I am Waiting, etc.). And then obviously the album Don't Fall In Love With Everyone You See was about exactly what it sounds like. So now, different album, similar story. It Ends with a Fall is pretty much the same thing but now it's not just any girl, it is his best friend. Watching your best friend of the opposite sex fall in love with "puny suitors I can see through" is probably one of the most frustrating things to experience, frustrating enough that he had to do something about it and it led to the downfall of his friendship with her. It's a shame, but sometimes you just can't help it.
Pretty sad. |

and there's actually the whole scientific metaphor- the time it takes light to travel from a star to our eyes is a certain amount of time depending on the distance, therefore a star we see in the sky could actually have already burned out, yet it still gives off the perception of being alive (wait two hours..) |

miles kurosky is crazy, i watched the documentary on Beulah, he honestly is crazy. Sometimes we can't put into words what we want to say, translating emotions into words is just impossible if you're trying to capture that real feeling. and this seems to be a sensitive topic. Perhaps this song is about the stage in your life between adolescence and adulthood, "it's been a wonderful run" and also mentioning mom and dad laughing at your treasures. it's a girl it seems who is struggling to find herself, she's caught between the fact that she's beautiful and probably has a lot of fun partying, but is being told by her peers that she needs to get it together. |

Wow I didn't know that. But it makes so much sense because this album seems to be about the road from adolescence to adulthood, and, while most people probably don't look at growing up in terms of drugs and alcohol, this album deals a lot with the realization of where your life is going in a very transitional stage of life. |

I think it has to do with people drinking away their lives. You see jesus and judas in all the areas that result from getting drunk. expanding on what kemekongqka said, you may be "floating and observing everything" from heaven, because when you get a drink in your hand your just gone. |

This is definitely Craig at his finest.
All the albums have a very similar theme to them about drugs, alcohol, partying, finding yourself, etc. But I never really understood the meaning of this album until I finally decided to pick apart this song's meaning. "Boys and Girls of America" just sounded like some cliche title, but I now realize its meaning goes a hell of a lot further than what the album title and album art may suggest on first glance. |

| Okkervil River – Black Lyrics

I'm pretty sure there's a mistake in the lyrics. I think it is supposed to be:
'Or I’d call some black men,
I'd fuck up his new life where they don’t know what he did'
They got the best line of the song wrong! |
