"I found an article about a man in a tiny town called Corsicana, TX, whose family had perished in a fire, who, at the start of the article appeared a tragic, ill-fated grieving father. But as it continued, evidence quickly and obviously pointed to this father as the arsonist. This confusion of victim and perpetrator seemed fitting for the recording, a simple love song about a relationship seemingly ended by circumstance, but actually killed by both partners’ unwillingness to save it. Unlike the case of the man in Corsicana, TX, the sabotage in the song is unintentional." And I just love that last line. Beautiful song. |

| i've always seen it as a plea for someone you love to stay with you. and for me the "your legs grow" means kind of what most of you are saying... to me it was just a little more, you know, telling another person, that although they might feel a little captured or limited in their relationship, they can stay, 'cause their legs will grow, you know, which will give them more... i don't know... christ, this is hard in english in the early night... a little more space, a little more room. the more your legs grow, the more you will know how to overcome the things you find hard in a relationship. but most important of all: to me this is a plea, a pathetic, but good old plea. | |
