Beautiful song lyrics, written by Niklas Sundin, the genius of dark tranquillity. They are outstanding since the beginning. Anyway, these are the best lyrics ever written by DT, it's a very long song (7 minutes), in the course of which Stanne (voice of Beauty) and Friden (voice of Darkness, here he shows himself really a growler, not like in In Flames albums post-Whoracle) alternate to speak about the two cores of the world: the beauty, associated with life, light, and the darkness, friend of death, destruction... It's a oriental oriented vision, as to me it's very similar to the concept of yin and yang, of the eternal switching between these two forces in our universe. The two singers act like death and life, day and night, darkness and light, the sky and the air... But, as the final part remembers, in the end they are just the two parts inside us, inside our world, in the eternal course of the universe |

I think Stanne surely wants to talk about a wrecked lovestory. "What if healing takes forever? What if time is meant forever?" let us understand that he keep on thinking about this girl. Furthermore there are some words ("Though I never claimed to be right, give to me the benefit of doubt") that tell a deep misunderstanding between two lovers. My personal opinion is that all the DAMAGE DONE album is based on a story of betrayal; songs like this or "I, deception" let me think that tha story went bad because of the fault of one of them. Anyway, the speaker feels very bad, no doubt, and he's very sad. |
