My favourite part of the song... near the end.
"Remember, my child: Without innocence the cross is only iron, hope is only an illusion and Ocean Soul's nothing but a name.." |

Being Native American, this song is very important to me. My ancestors followed the trail of tears, and were driven out of their homelands by the Europeans. I live in the UK, while my family live in lands given to us by the government in Canada. We never forget what was done to us, some elders even hating the white man for it, though most have come to accept it, and things are better now. This song encompasses everything about our culture and that time. I am not Lakotan, but the poem and chanting still make me smile. It is not often we see a band with no native american roots of their own making a song about the injustice done to us.(At least, I assume they have no roots) |

| Nightwish – Beauty And The Beast Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
The way I see it is possibly tainted by the versions of Beauty and the Beast I have read. It starts off with them falling in love, but when she says "my heart is occupied, your love for me now has to die" she is referring to the fact that she must leave because her father is in danger (Like I said, influenced by Disney) and her heart tells her she must go to him. Then, she returns ("however cold the wind and rain, I'll be there to ease up your pain"). The reference to "the wolf in me" is saying that part of the beast is still inside him.
That's what I reckon anyway. |

As many people have already stated, to me this song denotes loneliness. When I hear it I get an image of a woman (perhaps because of the female vocals) dressed in white standing on a cliff, watching the sea. If anyone has truly lost someone, they'll know how she feels. |

| Nightwish – Dead Boy's Poem (feat. Sam Hardwick) Lyrics
| 18 years ago

I believe everyone has music and songs that they relate to a person they know/knew, a time in their lives, an emotion. This is one of mine.
A friend of mine, I met in a children's home, and he became my brother and best friend. He was bullied badly at the home, though never as viciously as at school. Being a fostered child, he suffered abuse at the hands of his peers, knowing he was different to them. Aged 17 he'd had enough, he committed suicide.
This song is powerful, for me, because it reminds me of things he used to say to me. He was a budding poet, though his work was all buried with him. The idea of a "comforting home, mother's lap" is common wish amongst the homes. He also loved me, as I loved him, though I only found out after his death, so the phrase "I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" brings tears to my eyes |

Everyone's going on about who's better, Tarja or Annette. In my opinion, they're both equally amazing, and hard to compare because they're different. And while it is true that Nightwish is no longer the same as it was, so many other bands have changed their sound, some even change it regularly. I like Annette, her voice may not be as powerful, but it's still beautiful and haunting, and I like Tarja, as a singer. But I also think that if it had continued with her in it, the band would've gone downhill. I heard she tried to cancel a sell-out gig to work on her solo career... did she care about the fans?
Anyway, she had already said she was going to leave after the next album, they just sped things up a bit. |

Rhenna, you're right. I came to this site looking to see if I was the only one who saw the references, with direct lines from one song and a reference to another. Glad it wasn't just me going a bit phantom of the opera crazy. |

This song means a lot to me, partly because I grew up on Jagged Little Pill, but also because it was the song I sang with a community band I was in, for a local festival, and though I was nervous I did fairly well, so that always brings good memories and boosts my confidence. A real feel good song. |

| Alanis Morissette – Perfect Lyrics

This was the song I used to put on loud when I had an argument with my dad, especially when it was about how I only got a B in an exam.
It touches me everytime, because my dad was like this, I think every parent was at one time or another. And as others have said, that last line "we'll love you just the way you are...if you're perfect" gets me everytime. I have cried at this song before. |

| Alanis Morissette – Mary Jane Lyrics

When I was younger, I took the phrase "that's why I love you" literally, and thought it was about Alanis Morissette being a lesbian and Mary Jane being her girlfriend, or her looking at it from a Man's point of view. However, as I grew older, I started looking at it more like Mary Jane was her friend, or even a sister.
I don't think it's about an eating disorder, as the losing weight issue only appears once in the whole song. Though, as KissMeWithAHammer said, it's possible she does have one. It's also possible that it's just one of those things women do, they try to lose weight to attract or keep a man. "It's a long way down on this rollercoaster" - an emotional rollercoaster, that Mary Jane is going through. |

The whole album this comes from is amazing. This isn't one of my favourite songs from the album, but I still love it... especially the phrase "paradise denied". |

| Chumbawamba – Tubthumping Lyrics

Someone asked what had happened to the band. They released 3 more albums after Tubthumper, the album which this song appeared on.
First was WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) which included a cover of the BeeGee's New York Mining Disaster, and the released single (never got very far), She's Got All The Friends.
They then released an album, which I forget the name of, which included Jacob's Ladder and Don't Try This At Home.
The third album is the latest one, A Singsong and a Scrap, which is a more folk-music album. Only 4 of the band remain, but they still tour (at least, there were only 4 when I went to see them).
They have also released a couple of singles, one called Her Majesty and one called Tony (about Blair). |

They started playing this in the shop I worked at as the World Cup neared... I had never heard it before, but automatically recognised the way the trumpets were and the voices. I am unsure if they betrayed themselves and recorded a deliberately commercial song, or if it was a complete piss-take. |

I grew up listening to this song, which is a worrying thing to play a 6 year old child, but by that age I knew all the words anyway. Still, my father tried to cover it up by shouting the word "chip" in certain places.
I think it is possible to imitate it, with the lyrics in front of you. |

It wasn't until I read the lyrics that I realised what suseJ em kcuf ho meant. But this is an amazing song which, I think, shows how fake religion can be, hence "just paper glue and card". |

I have the album this song comes from. It is a traditional Italian tune, but the words are about a man named Carlo Guilani who was shot dead while protesting at the G8 summit in Genoa, 20th July 2001. He has a website. Look him up. |
