Why? – Afterschool America Lyrics 19 years ago
Obviously, about an overbearing and/or dismissive father.
Great song. Only problem is it's way too short.

Destroyer – Rubies Lyrics 19 years ago
"Typical me, typical me" - Nice appropriation of a Smiths line (I think).
Also, nominal references to two of his previous albums ("Your Blues" and "This Night").

Augie March – One Crowded Hour Lyrics 19 years ago
I may be in a bit with this, but yeah, I was thinking about the "bolt/screw" bit the other day, and considered the double-meaning.

Augie March – Mother Greer Lyrics 19 years ago
In short, Germaine Greer got zinged. Looking at a few lines in detail:
"Well versed I am in the taint of my birth,
my diminishing roll in this sphere" - Men have been pretty brutally marginalised in recent years, and Greer could claim some responsibility for this ("role" rather than "roll", BTW).
"Well England is pretty in the summer time" - You know, Germaine living in England because there's no room in Australia for a woman of her intellectual calibre, or something.
"Boys are beautiful until the age of nine" - Ms. Greer does seem to have a thing for young boys.
