Oh for fuck's sake. It's from Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, end of. The badge and gun are Pat Garrett's obviously, not a soldier's, or some contrived metaphor you've just made up and decided to post here. |

Dave wrote the lyrics in response to some weirdo he was sat next to in a bus that was blabbering on about how his wife smothered their baby and he had to bury it in the Meadowlands in Jersey. |

| BoySetsFire – Release The Dogs Lyrics

It's about how 9/11 was, and still is, being used by opportunistic Neocons to further their own goals.
"Blowback" is an intelligence term used to describe the consequences from participating in foreign affairs. 9/11 was the blowback from getting invoved in the Arab-Israeli conflict, and training, arming, and funding Al-Qaida during The Cold War. |

Seems to me to be about the decline of blue-collar jobs due to outsourcing and technology, and the widening divide between rich and poor in the US. |

| Blue Öyster Cult – The Revenge of Vera Gemini Lyrics

It's about the Marvel Comics character, "Agents of Fortune" (the name of album this is from) also had something to do with Vera Gemini (the character), or vice-versa, but I'm don't know the specifics of any of this. |

| Sentenced – Killing Me Killing You Lyrics

What Adrenalinne said (apart from the unnecessary angst). Not too keen on this song, although the video is great (would have been even better if they'd just ommitted the band from it entirely and focused on the old guy). |

| Rammstein – Moskau Lyrics

"It's about Russia escaping the stigma of Communism, I agree with that."
No it's not. If anything it's about the downfall of Russia since the collapse of Communism and the USSR due to the abrupt, haphazard manner in which it took place and corruption (those that held positions of power taking advantage of the situation to line their own pockets). Not that's it's endorsing Communism either. |

| Thin Lizzy – The Boys Are Back In Town Lyrics
| 19 years ago

|
Anyway, the song was written by some guy from South Carolina and "the boys" the song refers to are cadets from The Citadel - a military college located there. Dino's Bar and Grill is a nearby hangout frequented by cadets. Not sure if there's a Vietnam connection, but it's possible I guess. |

| Soundgarden – Spoonman Lyrics

|
I think it's well established that the song is based by Artis the Spoonman on one level, but I'm pretty certain there's a heroin undercurrent there too. Sure not all songs are about narcotics, but a disproportionate amount of them are; probably one of the most well used themes along with relationships. |

| Megadeth – Kill The King Lyrics

Yeah, it's clearly not about anarchy. And "the King is dead. Long live the King." is a well-known historical proclamation made during the replacement of a monarch. |

| Amon Amarth – The Fate Of Norns Lyrics
|
Argor: "For this to be true, the son must have been slain in battle, and the father mortally wounded."
Amon Amarth aren't too anal about following Norse Mythology to the letter. It's more likely his son just died of illness of some sort, as was extremely common prior to the days of healthcare, vaccines, medicine, etc.
The line "Death smiled at him its deadly grin
There is no one for me to blame" further suggests this is the case. |

It's not though. The song is about the band themselves, under the guise of a some vaguely outlined army/battle of sorts. |

| Amon Amarth – Thousand Years of Oppression Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
1000 years of oppression refers to the approximate length of time that Northern Europe has been under the influence of Christianity, which largely superseded the existing Pagan beliefs.
The first three versus are describing how Odin (the chief god of the Germanic peoples) hung Yggdrasil (the world tree) by his spear in order to learn the wisdom of the 9 worlds (the runes).
The next two versus deal with the spread of Christianity into Scandinavia, often forcibly, torturing and killing Pagans and such. The "mild-mannered god" refers to the Christian god, obviously. The rest of the track is even more self-explanatory, just a further rebuttal of Christianity basically. "Berserks" probably referrers to the berserkers - Norse warriors that fought in a frenzy. "We were not made to bend like reed... Or turn the other cheek" highlights the contrast in the two belief systems. |

| Amon Amarth – The Pursuit Of Vikings Lyrics

SoldierlessSoul: no. It's an utterly self-explanatory song about Vikings. All you did was copy/paste a bunch of Norse mythology without once stating how you were connecting it with the lyrics. |

| Rammstein – Benzin Lyrics

It's about the world's addiction and dependence on oil obviously. I'm fairly certain the rampaging and ultimately unsuccessful fire truck and its sluggish unkempt crew are meant to represent an aspect of the US administration. |

Not necessarily corrections, but I thought some of the lines read slightly differently.
my ass is pretty tonight = my ass is ready tonight
I will put a ??? = I won't put up a fight
cheesecake = cheesesteak
But perhaps I'm wrong. |

| Drive-By Truckers – The Sands of Iwo Jima Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
It's about Patterson Hood's great uncle and a remark he did actually make "I never saw John Wayne on the sands of Iwo Jima" while watching said movie.
Might not be intentional but I felt there was a juxtaposition between George A., a family man drafted into the war against his wishes, attending war reunions and recalling lost friends, to the typical brash and belligerent John Wayne character - and indeed John Wayne himself. |

| Drive-By Truckers – The Boys From Alabama Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
|
It's about Buford Pusser obviously. "Boys from Alabama" is based on a piece of dialogue from Walking Tall (the 1973 film loosely based on Pusser's life, later remade starring The Rock) where Buford is shot by "a couple of boys from Alabama"; this incident never took place in reality though. |
