The Blood Brothers – Laser Life Lyrics 18 years ago
I could swear I heard "Percy Sledge" during the chorus, when he says "unplugged its life"...

and though that's not true, I wish it were.

I just thought it was about a guy who's setenced to death by electric chair. I may not be searching deep enough, I guess. Perhaps he committed a sex crime?

The Cramps – Human Fly Lyrics 18 years ago
Here we go...

Well I'm a human fly.
It's spelled F-L-Y
I say buzz, buzz, buzz, and it's just becuzz.
I'm a human fly, and I don't know why.
I got 96 tears and (or "in my") 96 eyes.

I got a garbage brain, it's drivin' me insane
And I don't like the ride, so push that pesticide (it could be a pun as "pest aside")
And baby I won't care, cuz baby I don't scare
Cuz I'm a reborn maggot using germ warfare

Rockin'
...zzzzz...

I'm a human fly
It's spelled F-L-Y
I say buzz, buzz, buzz, and it's just becuzz
I'm an unzipped fly, and I don't know why
and I don't know why, but i say...

Buzz...ride tonight.
And I say buzz...rock it right.
And I say buzz...but I don't know why.
Ohh, I just...don't know why.

The Cramps – Human Fly Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah, it's definitely "96 tears and 96 eyes" referring to the Question Mark and the Mysterians' song "96 Tears".

These lyrics are all messed up.

I'm pretty sure he says "living reckless".

"Living break fast" makes no sense.

The Honorary Title – Bridge & Tunnel Lyrics 18 years ago
Bridge and Tunnel is a derogatory term for people who move or travel to the Manhatten area for the "night life" from places like Jersey and the suburbs of Long Island.

I have several different theories...

Theory 1:

I think that maybe this song is about a woman who doesn't think and is being told that she's not good enough by a friend (the lead singer) of a man with whom she's in love. Both men are presumably wealthy. I think he's telling her at the first of the song that she needs to be "rich" to capture his attention, and he tells her to "turn around", as in just to leave and give up. What leads me to this first conclusion is "Oh, you will never measure up" and of course, the "Bridge and Tunnel" phrase that is used.

Theory 2

A woman is being told that she is, in fact, good enough for the man, regardless of how much money she has. Example: "Cause baby, it (or "we", not sure which one) will all soon come to an end." No matter how much money you have, we all die. It's something every human has in common and it equalizes us.

Just my take. It could mean absolutely anything.

Black Eyes – Speaking in Tongues Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't know if there are more words or not.

I mean, they sound like words, but I can't comprehend a thing he's saying.

So maybe they're "speaking in tongues". You know, just jibberish crap.

Against Me! – Searching for a Former Clarity Lyrics 19 years ago
jinx_me6:

Though I don't believe it's about AIDS, I'll admit it does have a lot of references that could lead to that conclusion, and I've thought about Freddie Mercury while listening to it a million times. Especially with the references to homosexuality and the fact the person is a musician.

And for the people saying, "OMG, Against Me! are sellouts, so I won't listen to them anymore." Why do you feel the need to state the obvious and force other people into the same opinion you have?

I don't like the fact that in "What We Worked For", they hint at never doing such a thing:

("And may the likes of this song never make one fucking dollar. Leave it for demo tape to be played until it's broken, then remembered only for what it was.")

But I would never stop liking the music and lyrics that meant a lot to me just because they signed to a major label.

I think it's a bit shallow, to be honest.

If you feel that way, that's fine and understandable, but don't go around saying, "Boycott this album blah blah blah."

No matter how much money they earned from the album this particular song is on, it's still a good fucking song with a lot of depth, regardless of whether or not the rest of the album was below their standards.

Metallica – The Thing That Should Not Be Lyrics 19 years ago
It's been said a million times already (Nodens pretty much hit the nail on the head), but this song is HEAVILY influenced by H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.

I just finished reading his short story, "The Crawling Chaos".

It's not terrifying as much as it is amazing how they could incorporate H.P. Lovecraft's tales into a song.

I mean, it blends in almost every story I've read so far.

If any of you haven't read Lovecraft's work, get to it.

Scarling – Crispin Glover Lyrics 19 years ago
I thought at first that this song may be about the movie, River's Edge, which also starred Dennis Hopper as well as Crispin Glover.

But the Dennis Hopper part would be the only thing that fit.

Then, I thought that maybe it was just an ode or mosaic of all of Crispin Glover's movies.

Couldn't the that either.

Then, I just decided that maybe this song was like a lucid dream and wasn't supposed to make any sense, or just didn't.

Either way, it's a great song.

Metallica – The Unforgiven II Lyrics 19 years ago
As a lot of people have already said in previous pages, I feel that this song is about a man who murders his significant other for cheating on him.

This may not be what James intended the song to be about, but that's just how I interpret it. That's the beauty in lyrics.

Now, to explain my theory:

Lay beside me, tell me what they've done
Speak the words I wanna hear, to make my demons run

(This could either mean he wants her to lie to him so he won't have to bare the pain or he's just stating in a sarcastic manner that that is what she is doing.)

The door is locked now, but it's open if you're true
If you can understand the me, than I can understand the you.

(Basically, he just wants the truth. Maybe saying "the door is locked now, but you haven't broken faith with me, I'll let you go.)

Lay beside me, under wicked sky
The black of day, dark of night, we share this paralyze
The door cracks open, but there's no sun shining through
Black hearts scarring darkness still, but there's no sun shining through
No, there's no sun shining through
No, there's no sun shining

(I'll be honest and say I have no fucking clue what this means or how it plays a part in my theory.)

What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you

Yeah
What I've felt, what I've known
Sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there, 'cause I'm the one who waits for you
Or are you unforgiven too?

Lay beside me, this won't hurt, I swear
She loves me not, she loves me still, but she'll never love again

(She'll never love again...because she's dead.)

She lay beside me, but she'll be there when I'm gone
Black hearts scarring darker steel, yes, she'll be there when I'm gone
Yes, she'll be there when I'm gone

Dead sure she'll be there

("Dead" sure she'll be there. After he killed her, she definitely won't be leaving to have her affair when he goes to work or wotnot. When he says "DEAD sure she'll be there" I think that's a pun or it's emphasizing what he did.)

What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you

Yeah
What I've felt, what I've known
Sick and tired, I stand alone

Could you be there, 'cause I'm the one who waits for you
Or are you unforgiven too?

Lay beside me, tell me what I've done
The door is closed, so are your eyes
But now I see the sun, now I see the sun
Yes, now I see it

(The door is closed, SO ARE YOUR EYES. Once again, maybe meaning she's dead and that he killed her.)

What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you

Yeah
What I've felt, wha I've known
So sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there, 'cause I'm the one who waits
The one who waits for you

Oh, what I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you
So I dub thee unforgiven

Oh, what I've felt
Oh, what I've known

I take this key
And I bury it in you
Because you're unforgiven too

Never free
Never me
'cause you're unforgiven too
OH

(She's unforgiven because she was unfaithful. He's unforgiven because he murdered her.)

Now, I'm not saying that's what it means and that it's set in stone. Just a simple observation.

I agree with Violentpacifist. I mean, Jordan's First Choice was named the such simply because the song was literally Jordan's first choice.

A lot of their songs are named at random.
Most are untitled, until they release them at least.

Against Me! – Wagon Wheel (Old Crow Medicine Show cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
This song's beautiful. Sticking to the roots of writing songs.

I was so excited when I first heard "Johnson City, Tennessee" in this song. I was born and raised an hour away from there, and that's where the closest mall is and where my friends and I hang out.

It just makes me feel at home everytime I hear it.

And my interpretation of it is very personal, and although it has very different meanings, "Rock me, Mama, rock me..." reminds me of my mother rocking me as a child.

I just love the way this song makes me feel.
It was the first song I could naturally relate by Against Me!

Most of their songs are about politics, but sometimes, I just want to get away from those opinions for a moment and be reminded of where I truly come from as a person, before politics even made sense to me.

Against Me! – Burn Lyrics 19 years ago
I could be wrong, and I'm not setting this in stone or anything, but I think this song's about how the founding fathers of America were anarchists themselves.

How it's viewed as "bad" or "wrong" to be an anarchist now-a-days, and how it's horrible to wish something better for our country.

Ah, love this song. It doesn't have a vague meaning, and is pretty obvious, so really, no need to explain here.

But I just love how this song is so simple, and so brilliant at the same time.

Against Me! – What We Worked For Lyrics 19 years ago
Though this song is pretty obvious, the last verse has freedom written all over it.

"there's a height beyond skyscrapers there's a distance beyond the freeway more than pictures in a magazine more than tragedy in a rock and roll song it's more than the actions you know it's safe to make it's more than money could ever buy are we working to live and die in american cities, living to work and die in american cities, and dying for what we worked"

Although America is supposed to be a free country, it's just not. Nothing's free, and I think what they're getting to is that there is true freedom out there, beyond all that we know as a democracy.

Against Me! – Searching for a Former Clarity Lyrics 19 years ago
I defintely agree with wyliekyle.

Though the song seems to be about someone who's dying, or dying of AIDS, it's a metaphor for how Tom feels like he's "selling out" for a lack of better words.

I read an article about this new album, and I remember him mentioning how he felt sick when signing to a new label, and how he didn't want to do it.

This has always been a big part of what Against Me! is about, the idea that corporation is bad.

That making money for music is wrong.

Even in "What We Worked For" it says, "Let the likes of the song never make one fucking dollar. Leave it for demo tape to be played until it's broken, then remembered only for what it was."
