| I think it is important that the lyrics are different in the song than what is in the book...because you expect the lyrics to be the same. It is supposed to provoke thought...you expect the lyrics to match up...you assume. Plus the real ones are so hard to understand, like he is underwater or something. It makes you really listen. | |

I think this song is about a breakup, but I totally see how the drug thing works and don't think anyone is a moron for thinking so. "all police are paranoid so am i-so's the future so are you-be a creature" What does that part mean if it doesn't refer to drugs? Anyway, I still think it is a breakup song, and not wanting to come back down from the cloud means finally understanding why the relationship went the way it did and feeling free of questioning everything. Haven't you ever analyzed a relationship to death hoping to find an answer? |

I think this song is about a very destructive relationship, and the realization that it is "killing" the couple. The first verse "When we die...out of this time" is someone explaining the idea of "the end" or death. The middle part of the song describes the relationship. The end is the speaker affirming that he is not dead, he is alive. It goes with the first verse. He sees and understands the situation, and has realized it is like death (as described in the first verse.) Also, if you watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, they use this song perfectly in season 6. |

A lot of you have said this but in many many more words, so to make it simple, I think it is about someone who was in a relationship with someone "cold" and now that they have split up they have turned "cold" as well. Hence the contagious part. "Reality day trips" and "paint your perfect day" refer to the fantasy the other person lived in. They didn't give to the relationship. If the song is about betrayl then they are dating someone else but the speaker thinks they will now get theirs karmically and be hurt. |

Totally with Abiku! For me this song always had a kind of vampiric undertone to it. "Nothing hurts like your mouth". Not just words or insults, but fangs. Also, the peeling furniture day (or feeling, either way) to me sounds like having sex all day. It's a day to feel (or have some rough sex and "peel") the furniture. |
