| Between the Buried and Me – Obfuscation Lyrics
| 16 years ago

Does Dave Hume's Problem of Induction come to mind with anyone here? The principle behind the problem of induction is that we could all be misled by our induction, as we're only extrapolating results from evidence and seeing what could be the cause and effect, and thus we require a level of faith in assuming induction is indeed the correct way forward.
Kinda reminds me of that. It's either that or a religion bash, so... p_O |

| Agalloch – Our Fortress Is Burning... II - Bloodbirds Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
Does anyone know what the "Fortress" is supposed to mean? Extended metaphor for something or another surely? That's burning, is to do with religion and man... I take it, being pagans, the "fortress" is an anthropomorphisim of Man's Realm in the Earth or something?
Insanely win song though, very win. |

| Paramore – All I Wanted Lyrics
|
|
I notice some odd influences in this song... Riffs in the style of The Receiving End Of Sirens? Guitar ambience and crescendo crash in the style of Explosions in the Sky? Mogwai/Mew-esque chord progressions? Looks like Paramore are embracing the Post- genres of Rock in and interesting way that retains the perfect Paramore cadence. This really does set their sound above Riot!'s quite considerably... |

| The Receiving End Of Sirens – Pale Blue Dot Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
One of the best album exits I have ever heard, to one of my favourite albums ever (speaking as someone who's not even a fan of the genre...).
Indeed, this album draws connections between Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot and the theme of the album as a whole (derived from Johannes Kepler's Harmonices Mundi), with the ending of the song sounding much like a zooming-out scene of the solar system... |

| Ayreon – To The Quasar Lyrics
|
The Universal Migrator approaches the quasar 3C 273 over 2,400 million light-years away in order to use the supermassive black hole to get to the solar system...
Reminds me of Cygnus X-1 by Rush, except Arjen is apparently more hardcore than Geddy, and decides stellar-mass black holes aren't enough, and that active galactic nuclei hosting supermassive black holes are sufficient!

I agree, this song's first 2 minutes is a true masterpiece of post-rock. Emotional, heavy, crushing and atmospheric. I love the effects and the riff. In fact, those 2 minutes are probably the best 2 minutes of music altogether IMO. |

Well, the song title is one of the last things Aeris says in Final Fantasy VII. And coincidentally, the lyrics also follow the emotions of Aeris beyond the Temple Of The Ancients in said game... |

Good interpretation of the lyrics, however, I'm sure it goes:
"These walls, why do we need them all hidden so well..."
Excellent song nonetheless =P |

| Pain of Salvation – Nihil Morari Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
The Darkness of Humanity, and the prelude to the fall of the species (see Latericius Valete).
The song explains how humanity fails, all its flaws, and how its rule is slowly destroying the Earth, portraying humanity's existence on Earth as virus-like. The previously diminishing relationship between Homines and Animae ends here, with humanity being "left to its own devices", causing it to approach its ever-nearing downfall. |

Simple: Population bottleneck.
In Deus Nova, the population is growing exponentially over centuries. In Nihil Morari, the song directly prior to this song, the population is still rapidly growing at intervals of decades between Year 2000 AD and Year 2050 AD.
In this song, a global catastrophe/doomsday event has occured, causing the global population of 10 billion to become reduced to simply 1.2 million, an event known as a "population bottleneck".
Put short, humanity got pwned. Hard. |

| Explosions in the Sky – Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean Lyrics

Hm... Interesting...
This song appears to be about the Kursk submarine sinking, as neilius says...
But that exact theme was also covered by Mogwai's "Travel Is Dangerous".
Did the two influence one another or something?
After all, Mogwai and Explosions In The Sky are commonly referred to as very similar artists... |

The name sounds like a follow on from A Celebration to the Death of Man... I mean, think about it, A Celebration To The Death Of Man And The Great Cold Death Of The Earth... Sounds like an intended sentence |

In the song, you can hear "The Inquisitional vengeance had been hurried by my two-fold escape, and there was to be no more dallying with the King of Terrors", which is a direct quote from the last page of The Pit and the Pendulum. Having just done English Literature coursework on that story, this song makes more sense and increases it's awesome by 4 =D |

About Hitler?
"Leader of the 'Master Race'" - Hitler and his Aryan theory
"Tried to capture the world" - Nazi party tried taking over the world
"He lost the war" - Hitler did indeed lose WWII
"Genocide in the state" - He committed genocide on the Jews in Germany
"We call him Anti-Christ" - quite right we do. |

From what I can interpret, this song is about third world countries or the likes, and then the western countries come and invade and destroy the peace?
Either way, still a great song |

| Dream Theater – Repentance Lyrics

What happened here Dream Theater? I would've expected better for the AA Saga, this song is the worst off the album. As the above said, it's ok, but not up to their standards by far.
Reflecting the meanings, yeah, another AA continuation. The first line "Hello Mirror, so glad to see you my friend" was the line in This Dying Soul. Although, that's the only real nugget I can find here =\ |

| Dream Theater – You Not Me Lyrics
|
This song didnt appeal to me at all, which is a new for Dream Theater. Then again, most of the album didnt either. Trial of Tears, Lines in the Sand, Hell's Kitchen and Peruvian Skies were the only ones that stood out IMO.
However, at the above person who said that all Dream Theater lyrics suck, I disagree with you to extreme lengths. Their lyrics are very diverse, deep, nugget-ridden and very proggy. Especially A Change Of Seasons. These guys clearly payed great attention in literature class judging by the language structure and dynamics. If it's "not your style" or whatever, you could at least appreciate what it takes to write at their level |

Heheheh, Tunnel Vision is also a John Petrucci solo song from Suspended Animation ;)
I agree with Flash, I saw somewhere where he said the song was explicitly about his days, he never ever stops. He needs more hours in the day, Maybe John Petrucci should teach him how to drum so fast he can go back in time xD |

I actually see no wrong in the song, it reminds me of Awake's style, though a lot of people seem to dislike anything they give out in this album.
There seems to be some craze in trying to say "Dream Theater have sold out LOL", which saddens me >.>
I now really want Systematic Chaos just to get the better version of this song |

I personally like the lyrics. The line "The angel of death is pissed off at me again" sounds very Rust In Peace. Another reason Megadeth > Metallica, at least when they say they're going to go back to a style, they actually fucking mean it =D |

Indeed, by listening to this, you are screaming out to the world "I am an American idiot". Go and listen to some Led Zeppelin or Dream Theater or something with an actually defined genre and proper guitar structure before you even dare and challenge this post.
And if you somehow think Green Gay beat Led Zeppelin or Dream Theater, I recommend you go and compare tabs of this song to say, Communication Breakdown or A Change Of Seasons, guitar n00b.
