My Last Sunrise Lyrics
The lamb, the rose
The don't exist
The lamb, the rose
They don't exist
These are my last words
I need to rest
In fear and anger
I'll lay down my head
A faithless spirit in a broken man
Everything is burning
Rotten flesh keeps burning
It's MY LAST SUNRISE in fear
The grail's in pieces
All the bliss is gone
The rose has dried out
And the lamb got slaughtered long ago
The hope became another lie
Like the nonexisting father god
I'll close my eyes, goodbye
Don't wait for me on the other side
Everything is burning
Rotten flesh keeps burning
It's MY LAST SUNRISE in fear
Don't wait for me on the other side
Golgotha
Had seen nothing else but a carpenter's death
Golgotha
Not more maybe not even that
Suffer, grief and pain
Have driven me insane
Can't you see
There's nothing real
But you and I
And I say goodbye
Hear no evil, speak no evil
See no evil, feel no evil
Dream no evil, fear no evil
Touch no evil, taste no evil
All I see and hear is evil
All I think and feel is evil
The don't exist
The lamb, the rose
They don't exist
I need to rest
In fear and anger
I'll lay down my head
A faithless spirit in a broken man
Rotten flesh keeps burning
It's MY LAST SUNRISE in fear
All the bliss is gone
The rose has dried out
And the lamb got slaughtered long ago
The hope became another lie
Like the nonexisting father god
I'll close my eyes, goodbye
Everything is burning
Rotten flesh keeps burning
It's MY LAST SUNRISE in fear
Don't wait for me on the other side
Had seen nothing else but a carpenter's death
Golgotha
Not more maybe not even that
Have driven me insane
There's nothing real
But you and I
And I say goodbye
See no evil, feel no evil
Dream no evil, fear no evil
Touch no evil, taste no evil
All I see and hear is evil
All I think and feel is evil

I think it's either a person's loss of faith and sacking of religion, or detailing the crucifixion of Jesus.
This is simply about Jesus's crucifixion. He is starting to feel like his faith is falling apart, the grail the lamb the rose are all signs of faith or whatever, golgotha is where he was crucified. It is beleived that Jesus died and went to hell for 3 days, which would describe the "...no evil" part at the end.
This song rocks ahhh ahhhh! ahh ahh! Wicked vocals...
I agree about the vocals, they fucking kick ass! I hope they choose more of those kinds for the next D&W album. When Hansi sings like that his voice sure is awesome!
Sorry D&W, it's not about Jesus. If you go to their website, they say that Tear Down the Wall, Gallow's Pole, and My Last Sunrise and a trilogy. Here's what the website says it's about:
The three songs tell the bleak story of the fictious character Azrael, a gnome. Azrael is the creator of the entire universe. He becomes weary of his creation and wants to undo that which he has done so he and a companion begin a journey through the universe. Azrael dissolves his creation bit by bit, including himself and finally lets his companion return alone to create a new universe for himself.
Hmm, not refuting that, or anything, but I always kinda pictured a vampire. Sick of his existence, decides to see a sunset...
I think the thing with Jesus fits well in the Azrael-story. If He is the creator of the entire universe, than god cannot be this. So all the things Jesus said about his father would be wrong and therefore he would not be the messiah, but just a carpenter.
And as said before, the grail, the rose and the lamb are religious symbols. And "They don't exist" because Azrael is the real creator and not a god
The song may very well be about the gnome Azrael, but "Golgotha" and other references are a pretty obvious allusion to Calvary. But allusions are one reason I love IE and DW.
Artos... wow that's a fucking awesome thought. It fits... surprisingly well.
About the trilogy thing... thanks to the song titles I also thought these songs were a trilogy about some dude who starts a revolution but fails and is executed. Silly me x_X
When I first heard this song, I was reading the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. I had the same thoughts as Artos. I immediately thought of Luis and how he stayed up to watch his last sunrise before he fully died.
Afterwards I was reading the Silmarrilion, and thought it could also be about an elf who has decided not to travel west to the Undying Lands. Instead he stays behind to watch his last sunrise.
Of course, if the website says something it's true, but this song has special meaning to me thanks to the literature I've read.
Excellent song, the end is chilling
