| Nicky Wire – Derek Jarmans Garden Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is so...good. It makes me want to kill myself because I'll never hear anything this good again :( | |
| Hootie & the Blowfish – Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want (Smiths cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Wow, I'm a pretty new Hootie fan, I never knew they covered this song :D Also, I always thought the second line was 'luck' not 'look'...that seems to make more sense | |
| Hootie & the Blowfish – Hannah Jane Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I always though of this being a song sung to another guy, like two male best friends. The first two lines are his friend's wife, and daughter, the singer wonders if he himself could have a wife and kid like he used to have him as a best friend, but now he has moved on. 'Searching for someone to take home' could mean they used to go out looking for girlfreinds...future wives. Then the chorus seems like the marriage could break down and heis just telling his old friend he will always be there cos he has no one else...thats just how i thought about it before i came on SM and read everyone elses meanings :) | |
| James Dean Bradfield – Kodachrome Ghosts Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I had a small problem figuring out the first words of the chorus. A history of?? It started off?? I can't make out what James is saying there, although its probably obvious to anyone else :P I love this song, dunno why the lyrics weren't up already. I love the nostalgic feeling of the song, and I think it's probably about James' mum, maybe about Richie. The best verse in my opinion is the one that starts "Pictures cling to my mind...", its so brilliant and sad at the same time, and we all have a shoebox. Great song | |

I think the line "you may have won my hand dear, but it was the consolation prize" is the best line in the song. It's so heartbreaking, but I think it means he married her, even though she wasn't his real love, so the marriage is consolation to marriage and true love. I dont think it means he was her consolation. I always change my mind about what the song means, but to me, i think he wants the relationship to go in a certain direction and the lines "Knowing you'd never travel far That's what you do when someone's given up on you" means he realised she wouldnt go that way, and she has given up on him, then later in the song the meaning changes to him giving up on trying to go that way, then he thinks about running out and going alone. then he goes, and realises he wanted to stay with her, at home. I cant decide, the meaning changes depending what mood i'm in :P |

| James Dean Bradfield – To See A Friend In Tears Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Although this is a cover, it's so beautiful. The thought of my closest friends in tears reallys gets to me and makes me think about them now we have all moved away from home. but i appreciate that's not what the song is really about | |
| Barenaked Ladies – What A Good Boy Lyrics | 18 years ago |

On the live version I have of this song, on the chorus before the last verse I think the lyrics change, instead of 'Bear it with me, bear with me, bear with me Be with me tonight ' I think he says 'bury it with me' as if he is telling the girl/other person to bury all the expectations and hair shirts that have been placed on them, and then they can be with each other. I'm English and BNL aren't so big over here, so maybe its an accent that just makes it sound different :P but iv listened to it over and over to try and tell... |

In the album sleeve there is another verse which Nicky doesn't sing in the song : And like diamonds like islands There's beauty in silence Like diamonds like islands Theres beauty inside of us Like a slow slow disaster The pain will come after Like a slow slow disaster The pain will come after |

In reply to nadasurf... The Pill is a form of contraceptive. Its a pill women take regularly to prevent them getting pregnant. Shooting stars are what you might see in the night sky, some people say they are lucky (bring good fortune) and so if you see one you should make a wish on it. So he wished on something that was not a shooting star, just a man made satallite, (which looks similar in the night sky) therefore he was wrong to wish. |
