Third Eye Blind – Don't Believe a Word Lyrics 16 years ago
Actually Ursa Major is fantastic too though. Really grows on you. The more I hear the songs the more I like them, and honestly I didn't really care for most of them at first - it's the whole idea of having a perception of 3EB from past albums, but you have to be able to appreciate a band as they grown instead of lingering on their past work.

I do really like her in the song Self-Righteous, just not in this one. She annunciates words very flat in it.

Fantastic song. I hate the version with Kimya Dawson. The idea of a female singer is great, but i can't stand the way she annunciates words. Plus, she's not the most talented singer either...

Third Eye Blind – Water Landing Lyrics 16 years ago
The bridge on this song is my favorite of any Third Eye Blind. Love the way the energy builds up. Overall just another classic from 3EB. And love the metaphor in this song.

Obviously the first verse is about a woman.
The next part, "Let me come inside", i'm not quite sure what is exactly meant in this phrase, or who the speaker is meant to be in this incident.. could be Stephan envisioning himself as the water coming inside of a plane crash, like the last part of the song (of course with the water being used as a metaphor for disaster).

The rest of the song is pretty self-explanatory I think.
Love the message of this song:

So if it's a
Water Landing
Then it's a
Water Landing

Sort of an outlook like, "hey if there's a disaster, there's a disaster." Not too big of a deal, you can't do anything to change the fact. You gotta live with it.

Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics 16 years ago
yeah, i definitely hear those bands in this song. The angry-ness of the way cobain sang songs combined with the angry-ness of isaac brock's lyrics. The overall sound of this song is a combo of Deja Entendu and TDAGARIM to me. The intstrumental notes being more like Deja Entendu with the same guitar sound of TDAGARIM. Lyrics a mix between the two albums I think.

did you know John Nolan wrote the lyrics to this song? Caues I think that should change your opinion that Adam is ohsuchabrilliantlyricist... I know this conflicts with my earlier comments, but I didn't know John wrote the lyrics to this song. This was one of the songs in the works when John left the band.

Taking Back Sunday – Everything Must Go Lyrics 16 years ago
Along with Sink into Me, this is the only good song on this album. They're the only ones that still have some fire and great drum beats. They both have good choruses, that seem original, unlike most of the album. This album really makes me question Lazzara's songwriting ability.

As fans we've seen a huge drop-off from TAYF and WYWTB to Louder Now and New Again. I think this can be attributed to the respective losses of John Nolan and Fred Mascherino, and Mascherino had an increasingly decreasing role in the band from WYWT - where i believe we saw Mascherino's influence, in that upbeat/creative/rock without the overly sugary feel. I think if you listened to Mascherino's old band Breaking Pangaea and his new solo project The Color Fred, it becomes evident that the sound of WYWTB came from him... We also saw that the songwriting brilliance in the first two albums along with the duel lyrics, began with John Nolan (if you dispute his lyrical brilliance listen to Straylight Run) and ended when the band parted with Mascherino. And that was truly what made so many of us fans in the first place.. not the polished grunge and cookie cutter choruses that we hear in so many of their newest songs. Lazzera's lyrics just rely overly much on repetition of one cleverly worded phrase that in it of itself is not a clever statement in thought. I just have to say, I'm incredibly disappointed in what this band has become.

The Color Fred – It Isn't Me Lyrics 17 years ago
Almost certain this is about Taking Back Sunday. In an interview (google it) Fred made the statement that him leaving TBS influenced mannny of his songs for The Color Fred, and how he was frustrated this his ideas musically basically kept getting shot down by the other members of the band.

The whole "you've got ideas in your head..." seems to be speaking to the whole band TBS, and how they misjudged him.

The lines
{What's the best time we've had,
it's the best I ever had.
Still you say, it isn't me.}
seems to hit TBS hard saying that he gave his best to the band but they didn't want it, and when shooting down his ideas they tried to pull the "it isn't you" type thing to try to make him not feel bad.

The "whole foot in the door" is referring to Fred knowing for a long time that he was going to leave TBS before he eventually did. Once again in one of his interviews he talks about how he wrestled with the decision to leave for a while before he finally did.

The Color Fred – Complaintor Lyrics 17 years ago
I loved the way Taking Back Sunday sounded with Fred in Where you want to be. It's a shame that left and was replaced with the Louder Now sound- Fred has implied that the direction "music-wise" was why he left, and that he was frustrated the other members of TBS were shooting down all of his ideas. Their best music seem to came when Fred influenced them the most, like in WYWTB. It's really ironic, but to our benefit, how Fred Maschurino and John Nolan both started to make better music by leaving Taking Back Sunday.

Taking Back Sunday – ...Slowdance on the Inside Lyrics 17 years ago
god...i hate the direction this band is headed. Maschurino is gone, the sound of WYWTB is gone and replaced with the pop/crap sound of Louder Now- supposedly the reason Fred left was because he didn't like that sound. I think the sound of WYWTB was good because of Fred, notice every song from Breaking Pangaea or The Color Fred has that brighter sound that was prevalent in WYWTB. It's a shame that sound is gone.

oh and by the way about me being so far off from the truth...
ive listened to and watched a lot of interviews of taking back sunday, adam lazzera, and john nolan. it is pretty obvious adam is bitter about john leaving the band, and its pretty obvious that john is upset about adam lying about how things really went and the way that he rips his band through their songs.
maybe you should actually watch more than one interview.

you sir are a very stupid person. "first off" you aren't sure what it's about because you refuse to accept my interpretation because maybe im bursting your bubble that adam lazzera isnt a god, he is a bitch. the song that was originally written was different, and it got changed after john left the band. get your facts right. second of all this glass house sounds like a very obvious reference to the band taking back sunday and how it is burning down and falling apart. i think it's pretty obvious that good songwriters draw from their own experiences and Adam most likely did.

oh by the way i was completely right about my interpretation of a decade under the influence. it is most definately about the band with john being together for their last tour or whatever. you are a very dumb person once again if you can not accept this. Adam also lies a lot in his interviews and makes up stuff. Different band members like eddie or fred say different things about the songs than what adam says in his interviews.

also a decade under the influence was the first song written after john left the band. i really wonder what it could be about then.

piano is great in this song. i like this version a lot more but near the end it seems overproduced where adam has two different singing parts going on at the same time, what i think is john nolan having a part going on at the same time, acoustic guitar going on at the same time, reverb on the singing, and piano. it's a little too much

sorry to burst your bubble _Takingbacksunday_ but John Nolan originally wrote this song just like the lyrics to all of the TAYFs songs. Any piano or lyrics were all written by John Nolan. That's why in WYWTB and Louder Now the lyrics are so much different than in TAYF. Different person writing the lyrics. But that doesnt change the fact that he's still a good singer. Point about his articulation;you probably wouldn't like TBS as much if Lazzera sounded different when he sings, cause that's what makes TBS them, and makes them unique

im a musician too, and i appreciate michelle's singing ability because its so crystal clear sounding, i just mostly don't care for the songs themselves that she sings except for "This is the End". I especially don't like "Still Alone" and "The Miracle That Never Came".That fast single beat on a drum with nothing different with maracas thrown in just really gives the songs a weird circus-y feel to them. just really strange feeling songs

Taking Back Sunday – ...Slowdance on the Inside Lyrics 18 years ago
so it seems that "there's no i in team" and "70 times 70" were the first songs between the Jesse/John feud.
Then "I am Fred Astaire" was written about how how Adam cheated on Michelle and John found out and their whole fight with that.
Then "A decade under the influence" was written how the band got to the breakup of tbs with John and Sean leaving.
Also it seems like "Slowdance on the Inside" is an apology and was written about Michelle and how he got caught cheating on her and the 'glass house' in that song and how it was burning down is the actual band Taking Back Sunday (supposedly the fight John had with Adam about Michelle was basically the fight that put John over the edge to cause him to leave)
Then Straylight Run came out with the album prepare to be wrong where John countered with the song "A Slow Decent" which describes his experience with taking back sunday and how it was sad for him (just listen to the song).
Then Taking Back Sunday came out with Louder Now and Adam wrote "Liar" to call John out as one and "Twenty-Twenty Surgery" to say that John doesn't know what his point of view is flawed where the part of eye surgery comes in to reference that John needs a different view.
Adam also wrote "Divine Intervention" where he mocks John in the second verse where he says that melodramatic and stubbornous are a few of John's favorite things. he also addresses John's calling him out
And if that wasn't enough, Adam wrote "I'll let you live" where he mocks John again by saying that John settled for less and in Straylight Run and says they're second best to TBS. He also mocks John by saying that his "stubborn skin thickens in attempt to understand" He also Adam says there's no stopping him and that he's gunning him down (thats actually the real line; not i'm gutting you out)
Then Straylight Run came out with The needles the space where the song "soon we'll be living in the future" where he says so please be honest (to adam about all the shots hes taking at john) and then john mocks adam by saying "what's it mean and what have you done" He also tells Adam to "cut it out don't think about it" with all the calling out.
Then the song "Take it to Manhattan" is a stab at Adam
Then also in the song "Buttoned Down" John says that taking back sunday getting screwed up wasn't his fault, "for what it was, it wasn't my fault" Then he states "he should've know" referring to knowing Adam would fuck TBS all up from the beginning when he let Adam join. And the chorus talks about how it was hard for him. "The needles the space, that time can't erase" and "The rise and the fall, the thrill of it all, and buttoned down, you'll get the best of me"
It seems like Adam really pissed him off with his last set of songs calling John out because John wrote another one in TNTS called "The first of this century" where he says "you know you can be the first of this century to bleed through, to find truth. you know what you should do." So that basically says Adam quit lying tell the truth, you know you should. And the rest of the song is basically just him taking masked shots at Adam and how he ruined the relationships in TBS and his lies.
So, those are all the songs i know of that connect and it makes perfect sense, just listen to all the songs and you'll see the connections.

Buttttt don't you think this could be a reference how John and Adam's relationship was like the relationship of Ralph and Jack in Lord of the flies? But anyway that could just be a coincidince, and this is definately calling John Nolan out as a liar though and the whole chorus thing "if we're keeping score" has to be a reference to all the songs TBS and SR call out each other in.

yeah about the similarities between this and soco amaretto lime the guitar chords are really similar. the first few chords are the exact same for both songs (in different rhythm) and the chord progressions are the same. And at the end of the song where adam sings "this glass house is burning down..." and so on, those are the exact same chords that are used in the end of soco amaretto lime when they sing "you're just jealous cause we're young and in love"

so yeah, there's the similarities between the two songs

Listening to John sing makes me realize how hollow and empty TBS is. At first when John left TBS i was a little mad but Straylight Run never would've happened, and that would've been a shame. This is a tremendous cd. it especially seems like John has never written a song that seemed like it didn't mean anything. Taking Back Sunday – Twenty-Twenty Surgery Lyrics 18 years ago
listen to the first of the century by straylight run then this. it seems obvious what this is about.
this has to be about John Nolan. the first stanza probably means something like Adam thought it'd be better without John but really "The view from this side's not what
I thought it'd be, promised something differently" which is saying that once John left it wasn't what it promised to be

then the preverse is saying maybe that it's not that John doesn't write enough or write good enough songs, just its the means by which he does it

The chorus is saying something like John doesn't have the right point of view on the band's breakup or some other dispute between them and that his (Adam's view) is right which is why John needs "twenty-twenty surgery" so he can see perfectly what ever the problem was. Then when Adam says "for cheap" that's like saying it's easy to understand but John is just a moron(In his opinion) which is why John needs a different way of looking at things.

Then the second verse sounds like when Adam is saying
--------------------------
Well all young children listen, 'cause they've got so much to learn
We'll get you home in time,
---------------------------------
That he's attempting to mock John; saying something how John would have (it makes more sense to listen to the first of the century by Straylight Run cause it sort of explains how John and Adam didn't agree on things), cause its obvious that Adam and John never really got along. Then when Adam says
----------------
the rent should be for free for being me
-------------------
He's just trying to make himself feel really important compared to John.

Then the whole "I do, I don't, I don't need you like you think" sounds like he's trying to spite John by saying that Taking Back Sunday would say to John that they needed him but really they didn't need him like he thought (John basically tells him to shutup in the first of the century)

Then the whole "You're so sensitive, I am I am a machine"
sounds like Adam is ripping John by saying he's too sensitive and then Adam is saying about himself that he doesn't give a crap about John by saying about himself that he's a machine

submissions
Straylight Run – The First Of The Century Lyrics 18 years ago
even though it seems like too long ago now, i honestly cant shake the feeling that this is a shot at adam lazzera and taking back sunday, especially the stanza
------------------------------
And over and over and over again,
The same failed solutions to all the same problems.Scream, why! why!
I can't understand
Why the things that I do never go as I planned.
And the vultures begin
Their slow circling.
The dogs lick their teeth,
Bright, white, and gleaming.
---------------------------------
it seems like its talking how taking back sunday couldnt get along or agree on anything and how he could tell the band was dying because the vultures began. that also seems like its taking a shot at taking back sunday now, saying that theyre dead.
and then the stanza before it
--------------------------------
Desire gave way to a false sense of hope,
And we fell for the lie that it's what we all chose.
And I yelled to my friends, "you'll all be okay!"
But they didn't believe me, they still don't today.
They never do anything they haven't before.
In the same solemn room with no lock on the door.
-----------------------------------------
this sounds like John didn't know why he ever started the band taking back sunday. and the "we fell for the lie that it's what we all chose" definately talks about taking back sunday because when ever adam lazzera what his songs mean he always says its what you choose it to be about.

overall this seems like a continuation of their song "a slow descent" and it seems like John's just sad and frustrated how taking back sunday fell apart.

it seemsespecially like that when John says "And I yelled to my friends, "you'll all be okay!" But they didn't believe me, they still don't today." That just seems like he's saying that he tried to fix things within the band taking back sunday but they didnt listen to him. then the next part of that line makes it seems like John is saying that he still doesn't get along with the members of Taking Back Sunday today because of what happened.

Then as the song ends John says "but just hold your tongue" which is probably telling Adam Lazzara to shut up

Then John says take your best shot, probably telling Adam to give him everything he's got, just to mock him. Then John says we're getting out, as in he's leaving the band and they're never going to "find us again" saying that he'll never play in a band with them again
