| Porcupine Tree – Four Chords That Made A Million Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I didn't really think of the Beatles when I saw the title, but definitely thought of the Beatles when I heard the music. The verse sounds like George Harrison's "Taxman" and the rest just sounds like something off of Revolver. I think he is really showing his Beatles influence in this song. I also agree with the above interpretation that it's about the music industry. Also, genius use of irony. The song is about 4 chords, very catchy and mainstream. | |
| Pearl Jam – Parachutes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this a love song. One for the writer's wife and the world. A parachute saves your life. "Parachutes have opened up" The writer is saying he would be dead in a way were it not for love (parachute). There is also a comment on war, and how love can save the world. Parachutes, in my opinion are a metaphor for love. | |
| Pearl Jam – Present Tense Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is one of my favorite songs. I have the lyrics printed out and posted on my bedroom door, as a reminder. This song is obviously about living in the present tense, how it is the only way to exist. It is inspired by the Taoist philosophy of living in the moment and accepting everything at face value, not wishing to change the past or anything else; just adapt to the present; live in the present tense. | |
| Porcupine Tree – The Sky Moves Sideways (Phase One) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Wow, this is a really abstract song. Remotely understandable. Strangely beautiful. | |
| Porcupine Tree – Stars Die Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Wow, great interpretation. If stars die, then nothing is forever. Beautiful. | |
| Porcupine Tree – Synesthesia Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is about how leaders send people to war to die, pretend to regret it, and then send more off to die. | |
| Porcupine Tree – Way Out of Here Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Brilliant song. The lyrics explain it all. Personally, I like the straightforwardness of this album. There's too many artists out there who only think it's art if it's indirect. Some of the best art out there is direct, straight to your heart. Like this song. You can feel the teen's frustration, and at the same time the music pumps you up. | |
| Incubus – Talk Shows on Mute Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is about the brainwashing effects of the media and how it is leading to a fascist State. In a fascist State, as alluded to in 1984, the government controls the media. The "electric sheep" are everyday people who only watch televesion to get their news. Television itself is brainwashing. It turns your brain waves into passive ones, thus eliminating the ability to quesiton what you hear or see. The "impress me personality" line is a reference to idiots like Bill O'Reilly or Michael Savage. These figures play on people's emotions while they are susceptible to manipulation. Television companies like Fox News and MSNBC control the opinions of the general public to a massive degree, and are making it easier for a totalitarian fascist State to take over in America. |
|
| Blackfield – Summer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is about a person who wants to love someone, but that someone is too sad to love or be loved. This person is reminiscing the times he or she spent with their significant other while feeling melancholy that he or she is alone and mourning the losee they have just experience and continue to experience.d | |
| Blackfield – Pain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Wow. Beautiful. I especially love the solo fade out at the end. It's so peaceful, yet melancholy, hopeful, yet grieving. A very deep sound that goes well with the simple, metaphorical lyrics. | |
| Rage Against the Machine – Sleep Now In The Fire Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Rage condemns capitalism, but America is no longer a capitalist nation. Capitalism is good. Corporatism is bad, and a form of fascism. America is a fascist nation. So, Rage's message is good, but capitalism is not the reason that America is fascist, it is corporatism. In a truly capitalist society, saving would be encouraged and the nation's people would not be in debt, and therefore less greedy. If RATM realized this, then maybe they wouldn't decide that the complete polar opposite of capitalism, communism is the only solution to greed. America is not a capitalist society, because a capitalist society does not foster greed, it fosters charity and savings. Corporatism or fascism, the same thing, foster greed. So, the problem is not capitalism, it is corporatism or fascism. America is a fascist nation, not a capitalist nation, although it was founded on true capitalist principles. We have strayed far from our principles. The solution to big government corporatism and greed is not communism, but libertarianism. |

| Flutter49, I love thinking about this song and my dog. Sometimes we connect emotionally with our pets better than we do people. | |
| Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Is the slide guitar i there further tribute to Duane? I f**ckin love this song. Anyone who doesn't is mentally ill. This song maes me feel like I am atop a high mountain and the earth is spinning really fast, and I am in complete bliss. Absolute perfection. The stamina on these guitar players is nuts. My fingers would explode, and I play guitar. Your fingers get sooo tired after that much soloing. Amazing......A guitar solo has never pumped me up this much. This song has a meaning to everyone. |

| Lynyrd Skynyrd – Tuesday's Gone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song lifts my soul to heaven. It's about loss and a recovery to independence. | |
| Marvin Gaye – Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Beautiful song, but the world isn't overpopulated. The problem is mass concentration of pollution in concentrated areas. Let's not forget how this world loves to kill innocent unborn children. | |
| Porcupine Tree – Strip The Soul Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Serial Killer thing makes sense. Extremely disturbing yet artistic. A real work of art to be able to portray a depraved mind in a song like this. | |
| Porcupine Tree – .3 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Strip the Soul and 3 definitely go together. The bass line is virtually the same. Ha, I actually thought it was: Like the sky, love is blind. Way off. |

| The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| it's a beautiful song, no one has commented on the refrain. if you have, I apologize. "strawberry fields forever" let us realize our problems and fix them, so we can live happily ever after in strawberry fields, eternal happiness. I love John Lennon. He was so full of love. I get depressed thinking about his murder. | |
| Eddie Vedder – Hard Sun (Indio cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Love the feel of this tune. Great sing-a-long, riding along alone in your car. Blast it. It has a real natural sound to it. Can't wait to see the movie. | |
| Natalie Merchant – These Are The Days Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Beatiful song. Left open to interpretation. It explains itself. These are the days of your life. Love them and cherish them. Live for today and try to achieve understanding and happiness, because this is your only chance. | |
| George Harrison – Brainwashed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I cried during the breakdown with the tabla and the woman speaking. So beautiful and so sincere. The soul does not love. It is love itself It does not exist. It is existence itself It does not know. It is knowledge itself Beautiful. |
|
| George Harrison – Isn't It a Pity Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
In the tribute concert for george harrison, billy preston sings this song beautifully. The backup singers tag "Nahhhh nahhh nahh na na na na, Hey Jude." Which is cool, because you guys say it sounds like hey jude, which it kind of does. I love this song. Makes me cry every time. |

| A Perfect Circle – Imagine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| First, don't say it is possible, and assume it is true. Second, if he is mocking Lennon he is a sad little shit. "This can't ever be possible, the world sucks." I assume would be the sarcastic approach. You probably didn't come to this conclusion until reading my post. It is probably not true. What is most likely the reason he covered this, is because he wanted to show how deep he was, which in turn had the opposite effect, making him a douchebag. | |
| Avril Lavigne – Imagine (John Lennon cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| avril lavigne doesnt even no what this song means. | |
| A Perfect Circle – Imagine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This cover is delievered with angst and despair. John Lennon delivered his message with hope and urgency. The entire message of the song is a beautiful one. This cover ruins that message. Maynard is a tool, pun intended. |

| Simply a beautiful song. Requires no explanation. | |
| Porcupine Tree – Even Less Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
But you're a martyr for even less, could have religious connotations as well, although the suicide idea makes good sense. SW may be an agnostic or atheist stating that he isn't doing anything religious, but there are all these christians, muslims, jews, any type of religious fanatic dying for what they think is a noble cause, but they are dying for even less than he is. Whatever, just what I initially thought. The radical jihadists would be most relevant to my interpretation. I actually think the suicide interpretation is a better interpretatation, just offering my take. |

| Phish – Gumbo Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this Phish song. Sounds like a kid's story for people on acid. | |
| Neil Young – Harvest Moon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Great Song. The meaning is pretty clear and the song speaks for itself. As I was listening to it, I imagined myself dancing slowly in the mountains on a late summer night with my crush. Wussy, probably, but who cares. It takes a man to admit he has a wussy side. | |
| Creedence Clearwater Revival – Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Have you ever had things going great, when all of a sudden, things collapse? I think this is the central idea of the song. Cindy73, congratulations on dancing in a sun shower. Don't take the lyrics literally, or at least explain what your idea of dancing in a sun shower is, metaphorically |
|
| Pearl Jam – Life Wasted Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
First of all....this is a great lead off track, but not the best. "Go" is by far the best lead off track EVER. Song's meaning sounds pretty straight-forward to me. Don't waste your life and don't get discouraged. Eddie is usually vague, and this song is right to the point. |
|
| George Harrison – Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Purely a beautiful song. One of my favorites of all time. It's great because we all need love, and we all feel the need to escape the material world. Free me from this world and let me love you, Lord. He is sure with him now. | |
| A Perfect Circle – Judith Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
First off, I do not think people should be rejecting the posts of Christians. Sure this song can be about several religions and apply to people who practice blind faith, however the song makes it pretty clear which religion it is talking about. christ - The Messiah, as foretold by the prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures. Often used with the Christianity Jesus. "Talk to Jesus Christ if He knows the reasons why...He did it all for you...." Pretty obvious we are dealing with Christianity here. Jesus Christ is only viewed as a Savior in Christianity, and Christianity only. I would also like to point out that he book of Judith is included only in the Old Testament of Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Bibles. So one could say that more specifically we are dealing with low blows to the Catholic faith. "Not like you killed someone./It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side." Here the song writer is challenging Christians to question the guilt they feel each time they sin. It suggests that if we didn't crucify Jesus, then why should we feel bad? After Jesus was crucified, a soldier pierced his side and blood and water flowed out. In the Bible, this is symbolic of a sacrifice. In the New Testament, the soldier piercing his side was not spiteful in the least. He was just checking to see if He was dead. I guess the song writer is being clever. "Oh so many ways for me to show you how your dogma has abandoned you" Strange he offers none. Instead offers blanket statements like how Christians can't defend this "lie" that has been given to them, so they "choke" on it. Or, “Never taste of the fruit” The fruit would be the fruit of the garden in Genesis. He is suggesting, we don’t have sin, we never did anything and we shouldn’t feel guilty. "He did it all for you." This is a reference to Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. It is tainted with sarcasm and he is trying to point out the guilt that would come from doing such a thing, and that this guilt is not necessary for the people of today. Maynard's personal beliefs are he has none. He said himself, ".....believe in nothing." I think the only reason he is slightly vague in some points of the song is to be artistic, or confusing, whichever you prefer. Regardless of who he is talking to, his mother, anyone, it is clear he has something against Christianity. I myself am a practicing Catholic. I have studied scripture and have questioned my faith many times. One of the first questions I asked at a young age, was, If there is a God, then why do such horrible things happen? The answer is not clear. God loves us. I believe he created the universe and the natural world and left it to us. Everything bad that happens is either inflicted by nature, humans, and never by God. I believe he intervenes very rarely. Disease and such is a natural process. It is a part of life. Jesus gives everyone a burden. Some are worse than others, but never more than you can handle. I think it is sad Maynard is so mad at God for his mother’s sickness. Please do not reject my post because I am Catholic. I do find the song offensive, but I can understand his anger. I just wish he wasn’t angry, and do not see the need to discourage everyone from having faith. If he wote this song about gum drops and lollipops, no one would be upset. I admit I am upset, but never once did I bash his beliefs or lack their of. This is a very closed minded song, for a man who claims to be very open minded. I feel self proclaimed open minded people are the most closed minded. |

| Audioslave – Wide Awake Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song doesn't have to exclusively be about the bush administration. it's also accusing you of not getting your ass up and improving the world. similar to pearl jam's Life Wasted, their intent was to protect the environment, but still had undertones of "don't waste your life away". this song is just the same. | |
| Pearl Jam – Bushleaguer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I get turned off from pearl jam when they have too many political songs in a row on an album. I still repect their opinions but I think they are a little radical in their beliefs for the sake of their music. Bush, sadly for them, never lied about a thing. He may be misguided, but is not an evil man, and should not be conveyed with such hatred. I love Pearl Jam, but from Help Help to Bushleaguer it is clear they hate bush for no reason. They are still my favorite band but once in awhile turn me off. Mike M himself said he doesnt like the idae of being a political band. Notice the only song he wrote wasn't political. And on the new album the last song is written by him and its personal not political. He said he just doesnt like the idea of pol.itical bands. He knows some have pulled it off (Clash) but doesnt really like it. | |
