This song is about the feeling of young love, which, whether you like it or not, often involves sex and lust. She didn't say the 'Teenage Dream' is specifically sex, but you'd be an idiot to not know that it's a part of it whether people act upon it or not (which is entirely their choice, might I add.) From the lyrics the two main people who are actually adults, are deeply in love and in a long standing relationship, and she feels like they're soul mates. He makes her feel so free and beautiful and like she is a Teen again, living the 'Teenage Dream'. There really doesn't need to be much more read into it. Acknowledging that teens have sex? Yes. Endorsing/encouraging it? Not explicitly. By that rule you could say anything with sex in it promotes sex to teens. Even your comments on the internet mentioning sex even. LOL. |

I always think of this song to be about self indulgence and vanity -- at least the lyrics indicate that. I honestly read the lyrics 'I touch myself' to be literally about masturbation, or to put it more broadly, taking pleasure in ones self. She also admits to being Vain in the second verse, and alot of the lyrics focus around her appearance. The lyrics also indicate she indulges in alcohol as well. The chorus seems rather reflective and bittersweet imo. Anyways, this was my fave song off TFM. |
