| SEAHORSES RULE. | |
| Super Furry Animals – Something For The Weekend Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Gruff Rhys on the line about George Foreman: "There's a quote in it from George Foreman. He was asked, 'What did you spend all your money on?', and he said 'Slow horses and fast women.' It's about the downside. There's too many songs celebrating the upside of sex and drugs. Wine, sorry. There's a lot of trauma to be had by shagging and wine. If you drink loads of wine, you keep on repeating yourself, and if you shag a lot, you repeat yourself. Some sexual experiences are blissful, some are traumatic." |

Before anyone asks: According to the Wiki, "Ilyena is a reference to Ilyena Vasilievna Mironov, which is the birth name of actress Helen Mirren." This said, this could easily be one songs they've done. It's impeccable, no doubt about it. I love the new album!! Holy god. |

| Stars – In Our Bedroom After the War Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Okay. Someone, who's heard the record, tell me: does it feel like a musical to you, too? Between this, Personal, Barricade, and The Night Starts Here, the whole record sounds like it's a musical. It's really great, I like the feeling a lot. |

By the way, I believe the French phrase in this song is "au revoir joie, bonjour tristesse" Meaning "Goodbye joy, hello sadness" |

| Arcade Fire – Neon Bible Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Woah, that got fucked up. Let me edit that post: "Take the poison of your rage To lick your fingers when you turn the page" is actually "Take the poison of your age Don't lick your fingers when you turn the page" To me, that particular lyric is about losing the shakiness and inexperience of youth (poison of your age) before getting older (...turn the page). "In the light of a golden calf Oh God! I had to laugh!" This, to me, is a reference to the light of the neon bible, which is a golden calf (a false idol). The person in the song realizes the BS behind this neon bible, and laughs at it. Christ, I love this song so much. I don't know what it is, but it's...brilliant. |

| Modest Mouse – Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I know this song is about a fellow who thinks he's something of a god. The line about "ever time anyone gets on their knees to pray/well it makes my telephone ring" confirms this. I also know that the line about "breathin' 100% Listerine" means the guy is drunk. What's Listerine mostly made of? Alcohol. I'm rather confused about the theory about meth. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with it. |

| Pixies – Debaser Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
There was a film back in '01 called Haiku Tunnel that started off with this song. In the commentary for it, the director/main actor in the film called it "the best rock song ever". I'm with him. Debaser is fantastic. And wicked weird. |

| Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Personally, I think it's odd that most popular music is actually really shitty, and it so happens that most great music is pretty damn unpopular...but Modest Mouse was around for nearly 8 fucking years before they got popular, they deserve some goddamn airplay. I don't give a rat's ass what the purists say about it not sounding like their original material, I think that's a fucking good thing. Bands need to progress. Would you rather them be like Audioslave or Linkin Park, who pretty much released the same shit two and three times? | |
| Bright Eyes – Clairaudients (Kill or Be Killed) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Anyone know all of what's going on in the song besides the song? The phone conversations, that is. Any info? | |

| Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Hug away, wordsofamuteman! I'm currently on my third listen of the album, since I finished downloading it around 5 o'clock yesterday. So far, I really enjoy the album. It's a serious blow against the people on here who say that Isaac should've stayed sober, because he's clearly still an American aquarium drinker, but even if he's not, he's in full form. I imagine people are going to attack the album for whatever reason, but I really don't care. I've already said what I've got to say about the haters, so I won't say more. However, based on my current opinion of the band, I'd say this is my ranking: 1) The Moon & Antarctica 2) The Lonesome Crowded West 3) We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank 4) Good News For People Who Love Bad News 5) This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About Most people would attack me for putting Long Drive at the bottom, but I think it shows a great deal of potential, but it's a bit too uneven. I usually don't listen to it all the way through, because I kind of get tired of it. However, Custom Concern is my all-time favourite MM song, along with Edit The Sad Parts and Life Like Weeds. But I digress. The list is, of course, subject to change, but right now, I'm really digging the album a lot. It feels gritty, and it feels like they put a lot of soul into the album. Granted, it's not the best album I've heard this year, but I imagine it will make my year-end top 10, unless we see a flood of absolutely insane albums. That's, of course, very possible, considering all of the bands that have talked about releasing records this year, but for now, it's high on my list. |

| Clem Snide – The Ballad of David Ick Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Dear me, this really needed cleaning up. On the subject of David Icke, he's a man whose clearly out of his mind, but he's entertaining, so I won't complain much. |
|
| Death Cab for Cutie – This Temporary Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I agree, boda. I think this song really should be put on, say, the next Death Cab album, or they should at least make it a B-Side to the next single. This song is unspeakably brilliant, and more people need to hear it. Unfortunately, that's not happening on the Future Soundtrack For America, as brilliant as that compilation is. |

| Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Y'know what's crazy about how Good News doesn't sound like The Moon & Antarctica? TM&A doesn't sound like The Lonesome Crowded West. And TLCW doesn't sound like This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. Isn't that cah-raaaaazy? Every album sounds different! And even straaanger, every Modest Mouse fan has a favourite album. Personally, mine is The Moon & Antarctica. And y'know what's weird about that album? It was released on the same label as Good News. Does that make TM&A a bad record, because it wasn't released on Up? That's the reason Good News is a sell-out record, after all. Here's the deal: No, Good News wasn't their best. But a fan can still appreciate it, even if it WAS their most mainstream album. I highly doubt We Were Dead is going to be very big, will you like it because it isn't an album everyone has? Or, here's a better question, for those who dislike Good News: Do you dislike it because it doesn't sound right, or because your indie cred is damaged by liking it? Epic Records didn't write Good News, Modest Mouse did. Up Records didn't release TM&A, Modest Mouse did. Music shouldn't be about labels, it should be about music. Stop bitching about labels and music videos and album sales, and start caring more about the music. That's my 2 cents. You can keep the change. |

| The Decemberists – The Infanta Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I once wondered why The Decemberists weren't more popular. I then listened to this song and read it's lyrics. I realized this isn't something you would find on the average iPod. It's a song that keeps you on your toes and at your dictionary. It's brilliant. | |
| The Decemberists – The Sporting Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The stars of track and field are beautiful people. | |
| The Decemberists – Sixteen Military Wives Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
You say “support the troops” I do, I want them all brought back - Kevin Devine, "No Time Flat" gtg450y needs to calm down a tad. No, I wouldn't die for my "countrymen", especially because a) I don't support the war, and b) None of my "countrymen" would die for me. Oh, and I strongly dislike America. Oops! I'm for the terrorists, it seems. Sorry, Mr. Bush. Anywho, on the subject of the MUSIC: After watching the video, I finally decided to go ahead and download Picaresque, since it's about time I let my copy of The Crane Wife cool down. I love the video for this song. I don't care if it totally rips off Rushmore. MORE things should rip off Rushmore. I'll be honest, I use to despise The Decemberists (couldn't stand Meloy's voice), but after getting hooked on O Valencia!, it grew on me. Brilliant song, album, band, etc. And Chris Funk beats Peter Frampton any day. |
|
| The Decemberists – The Mariner's Revenge Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
worsethansex is right on the money. About the mental image, I mean; I don't know about the first bit. I can imagine a sweaty-toothed madman, who looks like Meloy, standing inside a whale, telling the rake why he's about to torture him. This is one of the few songs that I can clearly see happening in my mind while I listen to it. turnejam - The song really doesn't advise anything. It's a tale about a man who was so bent on revenge, he eventually had to carry out the deed from the inside of a whale. Something tells me that being hired by the priory wasn't going to lead to a "new, spiritual start" (that just doesn't sound like a Decemberists song), what, with his insane mother's dying words being a request of nasty payback. When I first heard this song, I was hooked on 16 Military Wives, and accidentally hit the forward button on my MP3 player instead of the back button, and got caught up in the accordian at the beginning of the song. I've had "find him, bind him" etc. in my head since then. Such a brilliant song. And I love the pun at the beginning of the song. Meloy is brilliant. |

| Weird Al Yankovic – White & Nerdy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| jimimarshallhendrix - Blunt was fine with the song, and gave Yankovic his blessing. It was Atlantic that had the problem with the song. | |
| Modest Mouse – Heart Cooks Brain Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Personally, my favorite line is "my brain's the weak heart, and my heart's the long stairs". What's the worst enemy of a person with a weak heart? Long stairs. So, in essence, the heart is the enemy of the brain. Essentially, anyone who said this is about relationships and whatnot is dead on. Also, one could say that "the match of the century, absence vs. thin air" is another way of saying "it's better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all". Yeah, Isaac Brock is a fucking genius. |

| Senses Fail – All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Holy mammajamma. Lost episode FTW. I looked on the Wiki page for Still Searching and saw All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues, and nearly flipped. I'm a huge Lost fan. |

| My Chemical Romance – The Sharpest Lives Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This is, to me, a flashback for The Patient, and he's thinking about the first time he'd come face-to-face with death, and it was in the form of someone close, possibly a friend or a lover or something of that sort. For me, songs like this, Mama, Teenagers, Sleep, and to some extent, Disenchanted, show that The Patient is not a character one loves, it's a character one loves to hate. It's hard to figure out which you want to do, feel sympathy for the death of a young man, or the happiness that the monster is dead. But this is all just my opinion. This is such a catchy song. It's really fucking good. |
|
| Modest Mouse – Dance Hall Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
What an ass. And a Hot Water Music fan, too. Eugh. |
|
| Modest Mouse – Custom Concern Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song, for me, was always my favorite Modest Mouse song, along with Bankrupt On Selling. Both have always struck me as amazingly brilliant. Anywho... This song, for some reason, has always been that tedious stand-still traffic the way to work song. It feels like a song that represents the day-in day-out monotony of it all. And the lyrics kind of represent that. "Their custom concern for the people Build up the monuments and steeples To wear out our eyes" It's about how we're brainwashed to be completely corporate. To be the drone for the queen bee. |
|
| The Sound of Animals Fighting – Chiriacho Summit Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Ugh. This song makes me hate all other music. Brilliant. | |
| The Sound of Animals Fighting – There Can Be No Dispute That Monsters Live Among Us Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
spectabilis is right on this one, actually. It isn't meant to be the ultimate in catchy music. It's meant to sound like a middle school choir teacher whose lecturing a class. Anyone whose ever been in a choir, especially one with a teacher who couldn't teach, hears that teacher in this song. That's my thought, at least. The point is to be a song that nobody wants to listen to, because the song is about how music, these days, all follows a flow. Either it's verse-chorus-verse, or it's more sung poetry. However, nobody scats anymore. It's all un-structured structure these days, if that makes sense. I can't stand this song, because I had that teacher who I was describing. But then I think about the lyrics. |
