E Nomine – Vater Unser Lyrics 16 years ago
Whoo, anyone who's heard Nachtwache by E Nomine knows they're definitely not a real Christian band- they just like to sing about God and the devil and such. Nachtwache is about a necrophiliac in love, from the necrophiliac's point of view. 0.o

Xpq-21 – White and Alive Lyrics 17 years ago
Racist? Maybe? I mean, what on earth does he mean when he says "white" here? Not to mention, the other single included on this CD was called "Israel." Does that strike anyone else as a little weird?

Neuroticfish – Darkness/Influence Lyrics 18 years ago
I love how they can make a commentary on the modern dependence on media, and still be self-aware enough to know that they are also part of that media that is shaping us.

Assemblage 23 – Ground Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song. So many of Tom's songs that might be uplifting are bittersweet in some way, so it's nice to have a song from him that is genuinely peaceful. Whenever I'm having a really bad day, this song reminds me that not all is lost.

Assemblage 23 – Let the wind erase me Lyrics 19 years ago
Still my favorite A23 song. When I'm in anguish over my own "memory of a kiss," I remember this song, and this longing to return to the peace of nothingness.

There's a story in eastern religion about a stream that needs to cross a desert and a mountain. It's a metaphor about reaching enlightenment and fulfillment. The stream is at the edge of the desert, when the wind speaks to it and tells the stream it will carry the water across the desert to the top of the mountain. The stream is afraid because once it gives in to the wind, it will never be the same stream again. But if the stream tries to go through the desert by itself, it will take years, if it makes it through at all. So the wind lifts the stream into the air, taking it apart down to the molecules, and clouds form. The clouds blow over to the mountain, and rain falls. Thus, the stream makes it to its final destination, though in an entirely different form.

I love to listen to this song in the car, to remind myself to calm down and enjoy the journey that is life. Meditation is vital to finding peace.

Assemblage 23 – Divide Lyrics 19 years ago
No matter how many times I hear this song, I still never quite understand it. If anything, it does remind me of some of the concepts of eastern religions- that our world is made up of illusions, and when we forget ourselves and surrender to all that is eternal, we find enlightenment.

I love the chorus-- just the idea of the will of one human being having power enough to rend the sky and shatter the moon. Would that not be evidence of the strength of the soul?

Assemblage 23 – House On Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
This song really only makes sense in the context of the album, which also includes Disappoint, which is about his father's suicide. I think this song is a related discussion on what happened to Tom internally.

The subject of this song has "built a prison in [his] own subconscious." He has turned in on himself, torturing himself in self-doubt and existentialism. The fast beat only serves to show the madness that comes with this kind of suffering.

Iris – The Way I Live My Life Lyrics 19 years ago
This reminds me of a poem I once read about a spider casting out its thread into the unknown as it stands on an isolated island. It was a metaphor for how human beings continue to have hope, and continue to reach into the unknown, looking for answers to the unanswerable.
I like the idea that the thread has finally caught somewhere and he is pulling in his home in heaven.

Covenant – Stalker Lyrics 19 years ago
Any ideas what this means? I'm usually good about finding possible song meanings, and this one stumps me. What does it have to do with stalkers?

VNV Nation – Carbon Lyrics 19 years ago
Wow. This song is the very definition of existentialism.

Funker Vogt – Maschine Zeit Lyrics 19 years ago
When I first heard the title I assumed it meant time as in an era, like in the word zeitgeist. So Maschine Zeit would mean Era of the Machine.
I love this song, even if I can't understand it.
