Bowling for Soup – 1985 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
am i the only one who thinks that my generation is actually far more likely to listen to U2 and Blondie than nirvana? i am, anyways.... |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Hump de Bump Lyrics | 17 years ago |
its blatantly obvious what this song is about. ''hump de bump''? its hard to get more explicit than that without using words like 'hardcore' and 'anal'. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Animal Bar Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i DEFINATLY dont think its a religious thing. the arc was just put in to reinforce the rain theme. i think it is about redemption, the water is washing the slate clean. ''the water, the water/ washing it all away'' |
Snow Patrol – Headlights On Dark Roads Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it seems that a lot of people see this song as someone about to give up on life. i think its the complete oppostie. basically, the dark roads are the bad times in your life, the headlights are all the little joys, all the reasons to keep going, and hes saying you should ''reach out and take'' them, to cherish these little moments. |
Coldplay – Clocks Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think its about being frustrated with your life, feeling closed in by everything : "clsing walls and ticking clocks" |
U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
emm... thats kinda hypocritical eirenightshade.....i agree with you, he shouldnt have said it, but calm down a bit..... |
Oasis – Morning Glory Lyrics | 17 years ago |
any irish people might have noticed an article in the irish times (that 'weather eye' column, at the back) which offers an altogether different interpretation of this song. apparently, the song refers to a ''meterological phenominon'', the formation of ''a huge roll cloud that often forms at this time of year over australias north coast''. who knew? the writer also uses a 'single quote' that consistes of a line from 'shes electric' and two lines from morning glory that dont actually come together anywhere in the song. |
Daft Punk – Technologic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
great song, but gives me a headache if i listen to it for too long... |
Johnny Cash – One Lyrics | 18 years ago |
oh, thanks. i never would have guessed that it was u2. i never liked their version. |
Arctic Monkeys – Choo Choo Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i LOVE that opening riff...... |
U2 – Elevation Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think its supposed to be ''EYE AND EYE in the sky'', not I and I, although maybe your abreviating, or something, i dunno..... I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
U2 – Vertigo Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ok, quite frankly, i dont care about u2 selling out. what is it that they sing in the background after: ''im at a place called vertigo''? more importantly, what does it mean? please get back to me....... |
Jamiroquai – Love Foolosophy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
LOVE THIS SONG! |
Oasis – She's Electric Lyrics | 18 years ago |
FAVOURITE LINES= I quite fancy her mother And I think that she likes me... its brilliant. i have this image of this cheeky-faced teenager pining after a hot housewife.... |
Franz Ferdinand – Do You Want To Lyrics | 18 years ago |
do you wanna, do you want to, same thing. and im CERTAIN it says i KNEW him before you......which certainly puts to rest the gay allegations...... |
Franz Ferdinand – Auf Achse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
''NEVER will i rise again'' wasnt the whole point that jesus WOULD rise again? so how could it be jesus? |
Nena – 99 Luftballons Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i have to say i prefer the english version--german is just such a beautiful language...... |
Fatboy Slim – The Rockafeller Skank Lyrics | 18 years ago |
is it just my downloaded version, or is the 'into' actually stuck on the end of 'right here, right now'? |
Fatboy Slim – Right Here, Right Now Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i love at the end ( i presume its on the album) where there a radio extract introducing rockafeller skank. |
Fatboy Slim – Praise You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think its ''through the hard times and the RAIN'' GREAT SONG!!, although apparently the actual singer never got a penny. she never even knew he had used her vocals untill after it was released. shame really. |
The Black Eyed Peas – My Humps Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song is a blatant, shameless excuse for their lead singer to wave her ass in front of a camera. I LOVE IT!!! |
The Beatles – Lady Madonna Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i dont think its about a prostitute, just a struggling single mom with no way to support her kids... the refrences to the days are a way of emphasising how her life is a long, slow struggle. Friday night srrives without a suitcase is just a refrence to how she has nothing |
The 5.6.7.8's – Woo-Hoo Lyrics | 18 years ago |
LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! its utterly fantastic!!! and so simple, and yet so brilliant!! i love at the very end, it fades out and theres a bit of applause, and someone shouts out 'woo-hoo'' i think its hilarious.... |
OK Go – A Million Ways Lyrics | 18 years ago |
quick question: does anyone else have a kinda heavy-metal bit at the start? its only a couple of seconds, and then it goes silent and then the song starts. is that supposed to be there or do i just have a crappy downloaded version? |
Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue Sky Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i cant hear any 'please turn me over'.... i listened out for that specially.... |
The Coral – In the Morning Lyrics | 18 years ago |
its about waking up in the morning, probably on the weekend, lazing around and feeling relaxed......alothough thats kinda obviuos. its basically a love song, where the best bit of his day is waking up beside the love of his life, and all of his problems melt away and he can just lie there in peace when hes with her (out of the dark and into the light....) and i dont think that hes leaving her-he says that hes 'going to the shop' and makes a couple of refrences to breakfast ('tea and toast'), so i think hes just slipping out to buy some stuff so that he can cook a big fry-up for her. and also, i think its actually ''tea and toast to yesterday's PAPERS'' i can imagine him sitting in the kitchen eating breakfast, reading yesterdays papers because he hasnt gone out to buy todays yet.... BRILLIANT SONG!!! |
The Buggles – Video Killed the Radio Star Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ive always heard it as ''BUT did you tell them?'' as in, do you kids know that you used to be a star, do they know that their precious tv drove their father out of a job? |
Nena – 99 Red Balloons Lyrics | 18 years ago |
apparently, this song came about after a beatles concert in west berlin. at the end, they released loads of ballons, and then they started talking about the balloons drifting over the border and triggering the soviet defence systems...... im not entirely certain if thats true or not though. and of course this isnt a direct translation. try singing sirpsychosexy's words to the tune. doesnt work. so they juggled the words around and re-wrote them for an english speaking audience. i really dont see why people are getting so worked up about this........ |
Franz Ferdinand – 40 Ft. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ive only formed this oppinion recently, after i saw all the suicide interpretations, but heres my idea of it: hes suicidal, and decides to jump off a bridge or cliff or something. anyway, looks down at the 'foam 40ft beneath his feet' and he realises that he just cant bring himself to do it (forty feet remain=the forty feet (between him and death) is still there, or he is still alive) he was so angry (moltn veins=hot blood=anger/frustration) that he wanted to take his life, but as he sits there, ''the coldest calm falls throught the molten veins'' and he calms down. he realises what he was about to do, and he begins to laugh at himself as he relises his life is worth living (the 'oh-la-la-la-la' bit). and, as he looks back on the event later, he is safe in the knowledge that he will never be able to cross that forty feet, that there will always be a buffer between him and suicide (forty feet remain) |
Sandi Thom – I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
as someone has mentioned, the idea of 'punk' and flowers in your hair' are at odds, but, em, has anyone considered that its just a mistake or misinterpretation? after all, she says 'my mum and dad were in their teens'-so she hardly had a first hand experience of the time. im only 14, and when i heard the song, there didnt seem a problem to me, only when i looked at this page. punk and hippy are kinda synonomus in my mind. that could be the reason-not a clever paradox or display of stupidity, just a view of the period distorted by time. anyway, this is all irrelevant. the point is that technology has taken over our lives and we are on a steep and slippery slope. oh, and in response to stonned immaculate, stop picking holes in a great song. you say that these are common feelings and that shes exploiting them, but then, no one else (or at least none that ive heard of) is singing about it. if she wanted to exploit a market, she likely wouldnt be using such 'straight talking' lyrics--she would be delibratly making them more diverse and anti-establishment, rather than just recounting a wish to have a simpler life. at the very least she would have researched that whole punk/hippy thing that everyones argueing about. |
Johnny Cash – One Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the first version of this song that i heard was a live one by REM, so that will always be my favourite one, but i was just wondering who it was who actually sang the origional? i always thought it was johnny cash, but apparently not from the comments on this page. please get back to me. |
Oasis – Roll With It Lyrics | 18 years ago |
wouldnt ''i think ABOUT a feeling ive lost...'' make more sence? like, he used tobe happy or in love or whatever, but now he has lost that feeling and hes looking back on the good times and wishing he could relive them? thats what i always assumed it was. |
Oasis – Hey Now! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I took a walk with my fame Down memory lane I never did find my way back i always took this to mean that he looked back on his memories, and kind of became obsessed with them, and wanted to relive the good old days, before he was famous. |
Oasis – Hey Now! Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Oasis – Morning Glory Lyrics | 18 years ago |
personally, i think that its just about getting up in the morning and feeling kind of run down and unimportant. the radio and helicopter=the noises that wake you up All your dreams are made When you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade = geting up and shaving, even though you dream of a better, less monotonus life. todays the day that all the world will see=deciding to do something about your crappy life, and show the world that you're worth something. need a little time to wake up.....=when you wake up, you're really tired, and you know that you have to go to work, but all you want to do is lie there and sleep away your meaningless life. morning glory...= well, im undecided about this. the first time i heard it, i thought that it was a kind of sarcastic barb, implying that he is happy in order to ridicule how crap he feels. however, i know morning glory means erection, and it does fit in to my version of the song (the best part of your day is that little bit of pleasure that you get from waking up with a boner). im leaning towards this definition at the moment. but i deffinatly dont think its drugs. just because the author once had an addiction, dosnt automatically mean that all of his songs are about drugs. plus it dosnt really fit in to my version. thankyou for listening (or reading, or whatever) to my opinion. |
U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday Lyrics | 18 years ago |
no offence nsrawlings, but how can you look back over the reams of comments and think that this is about russia? |
Snow Patrol – How to Be Dead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
heres my version of the second verse: ''Please keep your hands down And stop raising your voice'' (hes pleading to stop the arguement) ''It's hardly what I'd be doing if you gave me a choice-(his actions started the arguement, hes to blame; then she continues:) It's a simple suggestion....''(she has given him an ultimatum, posibly to tell him to stop using drugs) (he cuts her off) ''can you give me some time So [i can think about this]'' (she cuts him off) ''just say yes or no'' (he tries to defend himself by going on the offensive with: )''Why can't you shoulder the blame?!!'' ''Coz both my shoulders are heavy From the weight of us both--(self explanatory, shes sick of arguing with him)--You're a big boy now so [take responsibility for your actions]'' (then he cuts her off again) ''let's not talk about growth'' ''You've not heard a single word I have said...'' (she has been telling him to grow up) ''Oh, my God''(he realises that he has just made things far worse) oh, and i think that whether or not this is a gay or a straight love song is immaterial, the point is that they are splitting up and its all going to hell because of some drug use (although i would not be suprised if the drugs are a metaphor for something or other) and the first time i heard it i thought it said ''But if the ecstacy's in the weed is definitely out'' meaning that he used to do weed, but has moved on to E, which is why his girlfriend is so upset with him. |
Don McLean – American Pie Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ok, i dont claim to actually know anything about this song, but my interpretation is a crisis of faith. firstly, i think the music symbolises the security and happyness he recieves from religion. ''do you have faith in god above?'' = he is questioning god ''Oh, and while the King was looking down The jester stole his thorny crown The courtroom was adjourned No verdict was returned'' a king wearing a ''thorny crown'' sounds very like jesus to me (he wore a crown of thorns during the crucifixion). however, he has had his crown removed by the jester, in other words, he is no longer in a position of power over the wrighter. he refers in the same line to a courtroom--god was often represented as a judge-- but ''no verdict was returned'' = god dosnt really judge us. ''lenin read a book on marx.'' possibly a refrence to the spread of communism - considered the enemy of the american dream (american pie) and a strictly athiest system. ''I saw Satan laughing with delight The day the music died'' obviously the absence of a god would make satan happy....... ''the church bells all were broken'' = the church bells won't ring (ie. make music) and fill him with joy anymore. ''And the three men I admire most The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost They caught the last train for the coast'' God (the trinity) has abandoned him and one last thought thats just occured to me- this crisis of faith has shattered him so much that he has turned to drinking (''drinkin' whiskey and rhye'') and doesnt feel that he can go on (''this will be the day that i die'') thats just my interpretation, thought id share it. |
