The most confusing part of this song was the "ghosts in my machine," but after some consideration, it seems to make sense if you just replace that with the words "love of my past." She begs in the beginning for SOMEONE ELSE to love her and take away her pain and lonliness. All she can think about is her past lover and she keeps bringing herself down saying "I've seen too much, I know too much, I feel too much...etc" Later in the song she restates that she needs some medicine (new love) to ease her pain and forget her past. However, she can't seem to find anybody. At the very end of the song, she seems to be wanting her past love again, but at the same time she is telling herself "no no" because she knows all he ever did was hurt her and make her feel like SHE had something wrong with HER "I give too much, get used too much, I lose too much..." when the TRUTH was that it was HIS fault. So, thankfully, at the VERY end of the song you can hear her saying "Get out of my house," showing that she will NOT accept that kind of abuse, no matter if she will always love him. |

| This song was probably about how he and his recording company were having problems with never were able to communicate correctly. Though I love how he wrote it in a way that it could easily be meant between a relationship, most of his songs have different meanings. | |

I remember hearing that Ed said it was about a friend that died. If you put it in that way, it makes sense, especially at the end when he says "I play the Lord to keep I pray the Lord to hold you tight" Sleeping is a metaphor to him being dead, and he is saying goodnight to try to finally be at peace with him probably. |

I'm pretty sure the song has nothing to do with a blow job, he is referring to the water. The water is his love. I think the December refers to the hate and pain he got with the relationship. |

I believe he is talking about love, and how he is always burdened with it like he is some criminal. Then he goes on saying how happy he is because he is freed from it, and now he can do things he wasn't able to. Maybe after that he starts to say how love is something that wasn't etched in stone forever, his love is something that is already gone. He tells what love was to him, and he wants it, but he wants love to come his way now, instead of searching for it and trying to keep it. He can go on pretending to be in love, but he can only love as much as anyone else can. Now he is gone with his love like when people left Babylon. (guess) Yeah, he can mumble, talk, and love again, but he's not someone who will always be in love and goes on how he wants love to come his way instead. Now he's come back, because the everyone loves him instead, and he is telling them to feel the changes he's laying down. I think it has to do somewhat about his relationship he had when they weren't playing for a while and how he is coming back with his band now that everything fine. Just a huge guess, could be totally off. :) |

I think this song can mean many things, not really sure myself. 1) Sort of how he is feeling when he sings on stage. or 2) Maybe getting past someone, and living on with life because of how great it is. |
