Ahem. Well, being a vegetarian I can certainly say I don't find this song offensive. I think it's less about bashing vegetarians than about bashing the whole self-righteous mind-set, that we are above any other living thing in the universe. This idea is reiterated in "Vicarious" from "10,000 days" when he says, "The universe is hostile, so impersonal: devour to survive. So it is, so it's always been." Let the rabbits wear glasses! What does he mean? It's pretty ridiculous to think of a rabbit wearing glasses. But it has to wear glasses now because it won't eat the carrots... because it doesn't want to hurt the carrots. But is that any more ridiculous than say, a monkey or an ape wearing glasses? What about a human? How different are we from monkeys? A couple of dots in the genetic code, that's about all. How far are monkeys from rabbits? We all live in a circle of life. Everything that lives eats something that lives. It's the nature of life. Vegetarians, hmm, yes... There are many self-righteous vegetarians... but there are also many self-righteous meat-eaters. There are plenty of self-righteous people all over the world, who justify their actions by saying, "X is ok because Y." It's ok to eat animals. It's ok to eat plants. It's not ok to tell others how to live their lives. The concept of "right" as it is defined in modern constitutions all over the world is a new one. Humans don't have rights any more than the carrots do. The only reason we think humans should have rights is because we are human. As the focus becomes wider, so too does the generalization. What's more important? A carrot's right to live, or a rabbits right to eat? Maynard never gives us answers; no literary geniuses do. He just raises questions. |

| Blind Guardian – Imaginations From The Other Side Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Definitely this song is about regaining that feeling of excitement from the "other side" or the world of "imagination". I think rather than giving the tales up, he's trying to regain them, get back to that feeling of mystical wonder. "Will I ever see them back again Or did they all die by my hand Or where they killed By the old evil ghost Who had taken, taken The ocean Of all my dreams Which were worth to keep Deep inside my heart I wish I Could get them back From the everflow Before they'll fade away" |

This song is, I think, about the doubt that jesus would have about the numerous wars that have been laid in his name. "another crucifixion for another holy war" |

| Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics | 19 years ago |

To 'the dingo' I wonder why you feel the need to tell everyone they're 'dumbshits', and call me a 'worthless piece of shit'. My point was that blotter was clearly audible in the lyrics, and that 'will I ever be coming down' isn't a dmt-quote. That's for certain an acid, possibly a peyote quote. DMT lasts for (at maximum) thirty minutes. Add Ecstacy and LSD ontop of that... maybe you would encounter E.T. Seriously. Tone down the agro, man. Give away the stone. |

| That'd be X, DMT, and Blotter/LSD. | |
| Tool – Jambi Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Wow. The anger. Chill. Who want's to fight over some song lyrics? Very interesting about Jambi meaning Iambic. But... The verses aren't in pentameter. Pentameter is 5-footed phrases. Each foot is two syllables. An Iamb is a foot with a soft-stress followed by a hard-stress. Maynard uses 4-footed phrases, and sometimes 4.5-footed phrases. Not pentameter. This is one of the most enigmatic songs on the whole album I think, because of the second part of the form. This may turn out to be a valuable clue. :) Thanks Janster! |

| Tool – Wings for Marie (Pt. 1) Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Wings pt 1, Viginti Tres & Wings Pt 2 were NEVER MEANT to be put together. The effect works somewhat, for about 70% of the combined "song" but let me tell you as someone who's studied music, NO MUSICIAN WITH ANY INTEGRETY WOULD IN HIS OR HER RIGHT MIND HAVE TWO KEYS IN OPPOSITION PLAYING AGAINST EACHOTHER AT THE SAME TIME. No matter how you cut it, there is TOO MUCH CLASH for these tracks to work together in any way other than the way they were arranged on the album. Do not heed the words of the sarcastic. You will only sully the majesty of the album by mashing these together. Incidentally, Darkside of the Moon & Wizard of OZ work WAY BETTER together. |

As for what the dude says, I tend to agree with TheArchDandy, in that it really does sound like "Das is guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut" except that it seems to end with an 's' And I doubt Tool would say "Das is Goose". I hear "Pr" at the begining, "Sis" in the middle, and "Us" at the end. Sounds latin, but a summary check of latin english dictionaries turn up nothing like "Prosistus" or anything of the sort. It is possible that the 'r' sound comes from the effects, but that is definitely a 'hard' entrance, in that it begins on a consonant, rather than a vowel. Also. I don't know if anyone has really pointed this out clearly, but... Human beings have 23 pairs of Chromosomes. That's 46, for all of you who didn't pass Grade 1 math. Another pair of chromosomes=46&2, and the next step of human evolution. |

I tried lining the songs up together and it sounds really cool at first and it works but there's the key-change in Wings for Marie pt 1 that totally screws it up. It sounds totally ugly. But the end... wow. Lines up pretty good. A little fuct though. I doubt it's intentional. |

I have decided that 99% of you are retarded, and don't have opinions worth hearing. That being said... see my post under 'Lipan Conjuring' Oh yeah, And of course the song is about LSD. Unless you people think a blotter (the little piece of paper that you put acid on) can actually get up on top of someone and make him see aliens, you know, without the actual LSD. DMT? Trust me. This ain't it. Also. Any of you who think you've got it game tight, and you know everything maynard is trying to say? You're wrong. Trust me on this. Ten years from now you'll be listening to this song going, "Wait a minute...!" That, my friends, is Mystery. That is what being Human is all about. Never knowing for sure. |

| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"The Pot" refers to a few things. First off, Pot is slang for Marijuana in North America. I dunno about elsewhere. "The Pot" is also a part of an old adage, saying, "It's like the pot calling the kettle black"; It's similar to the christian idea that before you judge someone else for their flaws, you must first become flawless (something which only god is). Imagine if one Sumo-wrestler called the other fat. Same deal. The united states has been referred to as a "Melting Pot" of cultures. Marijuana or hasheesh is a big part of some of those cultures (Mexico, for example), but, there is little heed of that in the US. And Maynard does criticise the Kangaroo ("Kangaroo Court" is slang for "Mock Court"), and the Government because they support drugs that are supposedly ok, but if someone wants to smoke marijuana ("Ganja, Puh-leeze!") in the states, that could end them up in jail for up to twenty years!!! Fucking bastards! And the US. Gov't has listed Marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug, ranking with Heroin and Speed, because it is "Potentially Dangerous." This, when Cigarettes/Tobacco, a government-sanctioned drug, causes terminal cancer in 66% of users, and has been classified as more addictive than heroin... And they call it the "Land of the Free" Phhhhshh. Incidentally, Marijuana has not been associated with cancer in the same way. In fact, studies show surprising results. (Check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_issues_and_the_effects_of_cannabis ) Bastards. Who are they to wave their fingers? |

Seriously... For those of you who say this song sucks, well... you're an idiot. Listen two both parts of the song. And I mean listen, don't just hear. There's a message here. |

| This song isn't about watching TV... it's about the brutality inherent in human nature. Ask me to prove it, and I will. | |

"The universe is hostile, So impersonal. Devour to survive, so it is, So it's always been." "This is necessary Life feeds on life." Nuff said. |

| Tool – Aenema Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is about the decadence of society and the inevitable decline that comes from it. Mom *is* mother nature. She is coming round to put it back the way it oughta be, with a comet that falls from the sky, followed by meteor-showers and tidal waves, followed by faultlines that cannot sit still, followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits. Maynard is saying that all the extravagences of modern society have made us forgetful of that which is really important. Survival. Community. |

TREXOR, perhaps you would try writing an album that is better than this one? Methinks you would have a hard time. |

| Tool – Lipan Conjuring Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
First off, these lyrics are totally wrong. The Lipan Apache are a band of native americans in Texas that are still kicking, in spite of the fact that modern Anthropology tells us their culture has been lost. As for "conjuring," dictionary.com gives us the definition: To summon (a devil or spirit) by magical or supernatural power. In rosetta stoned, we are told that an ET (extra terrestrial) visits the speaker of that song as a result of 'blotter' which is typically how LSD is ingested; the ET delivers him a message ('I don't even know what it means'). Whether or not the Lipan Apache make use of psychoactive narcotics, I am unsure. However, it is commonplace in many tribal societies to take an alkaloid (like Mescaline, Psilosybin or Psilocin) in order to induce a trance-like state known to modern science as "ecstacy". Wikipedia's artical on Shamanism describes a shaman's initiation in the Americas as symbolic of the journey into the underworld, to gain the knowledge of the dead. It is a symbolic death and rebirth, such as is found in mythologies all over the world, including that of Christianity, Asatru, and others. The article also tells us that among a Shaman's tools are the "Use of "power" or "master" plants to induce altered states". These plants are alkaloids, including Peyote, Salvia Divinorum, and Cannibus, all of which are used recreationally by today's generation. Now, if any of you are big on Tool, you might know that they frequently draw parallels between Fairy stories, or stories of spirits, and extra-terrestrial encounters. If you look through their Newsletters on their site (toolband.com), you'll see what I mean. Also, if you listan to Fiaap de Oiad, the final track of Lateralus, you hear a clip from the Art Bell show, wherein a man declares that the US government is in league with aliens, but that they are not extra-terrestrial, rather that they are extra-demensional. So, taking Dictionary.com's definition of Conjuring, in lieu of "Lipan Conjuring" and "Rosetta Stoned" we can begin to understand the story of a man who takes LSD (a "need-to-know potion") and as a result is visited by extra-demensional beings. Does this sound like Conjuring to you? It does to me. Anyhow, not that I have an authoritative definition but... Anyone who thinks this interlude is meaningless, or stupid is off their rocker. The members of Tool are very intelligent men, and they take a lot of time to make their albums for a reason. Those of you who are interested simply in their grinding metal-like sound will probably be quickly disappointed/turned off by this album; while it does have a lot of rockin' riffs, there're some long, intellectual songs here that are designed to make you THINK. (I know it hurts, but you get used to it.) |
