This is one of my favorite songs, its about "the other side" the world of tales and stories, The unreal world. And this song is (in my opinion) about growing up and giving up the tales and stories, "becoming an adult" and giving up the fairy tales.

The character wishes he could go back into the magical world he once was in. I LOVE THIS SONG! All the different tales and heros of them, peter pan, frodo, alice, tinman, merlin and many more

Definitely this song is about regaining that feeling of excitement from the "other side" or the world of "imagination". I think rather than giving the tales up, he's trying to regain them, get back to that feeling of mystical wonder.
