mm-hmm. she does say here that it's not about her dad, but instead about "confusion... and humanity": http://youtu.be/hDXpdV-PAq8
though i guess the estranged father interpretation works well too, with god being considered a father figure (which she of course references as well). |

though i'm not sure whether it's really toast/task, you do realize toast also means:
Noun
1. a proposal of health or success given to a person or thing and marked by people raising glasses and drinking together
2. a person or thing that is honoured: his success made him the toast of the British film industry |

is it "Deny your lizards for boys"?
it kind of sounds like she's saying "but now you listens for voice," which doesn't make that much sense either. |

mm hmm whenever i listen to this song i get an image of somebody sitting in a bathtub where the water's gone cold and the tap's not closed completely so it's dripping.. and the person is in such turmoil that they're not doing anything about it |

i remember going to two of my grandparents' funerals when i was little, and both times when i was in the room where they put their bodies before the viewing, i thought i saw their chests heaving up and down. a while ago i went to a funeral of a childhood crush who was shot to death at 22. this song is the embodiment of that strange feeling i get when i think about funerals and death. kind of. |

i know some of the words are probably wrong.. and i particularly don't get the third verse. but i love how the whole song is bursting with this whole bunch of words. i also love the part where she goes "could he please get back to me?" cos she's asking his dad to get him to call her back and she's kinda begging him to come back at the same time. |

this song always reminds me of getting home in the car on a sunday night when i was little cos it was one of those oldies my dad always played when he was driving. and now whenever i listen to it i get this image of a bunch of hippies coming together in san francisco... or something. and it makes me want to go to san francisco. |
