May I place the suggestion that the line after "That fucker.." is "It was predator-predator call" Like two evils facing eachother.. or two equals, both out for blood. |

| Epica – Feint Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This ballade is written after the homocide on the dutch right-winged poltician Pim Fortuyn. The 1st verse profiles Fortuyn as the person who would bring a huge change to dutch society, but who was brutaly put to silence by those who didn't shared his political visions. Also gives support to Fortuyn's case, stating that it was the truth. The chorus basically says the same. Fortuyn moved political mountains and he faced the problems in society like no other did before him. And this was most impressive. The 2nd verse refers to Fortuyn's party who are nothing without their leader. The intro to the bridge states that dutch politics lost their innoscence on that day. And the bridge tells us that this event will echo through dutch history and for long we will keep on feeling the consequences of this act. |

| Epica – Illusive Consensus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Mark himself stated on the 'We will take you with us'-DVD that the song is about false love and how love can turn into hatred. I really recognize the situation as described in the song from events in my own life. Love blinds us and makes the person you love beautiful and flawless. But when you realise that the person that you love is playing a character and it is this character you fell in love with and not this person, this love can turn into hate. The one you loved never existed.. This person betrayed you, played with you.. and now you've come to sense, you're realising this. The latin parts Twam translated fit in perfectly with this. Don't you think? |

| Epica – Cry for the Moon (The Embrace That Smothers Part IV) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is the 4th song from 'the Embrace that Smothers', a serie of songs written by Mark Jansen, started of with the band After Forever, but continued by Epica after Jansen switched bands. Like all other songs of this serie, this song is a statement against organised religion. In specific this song deals about the sexual abuse of little children by catholic priests. It also states the hypocritic behavior of these priests (and the church in general) telling us what to do and not to do, accusing us of being sinful, while committing worse crimes themself. |

| Finntroll – Svart Djup Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Dark Depths In wind whisper the tones of death Evil stars in the sky now stare Beneath the trees echoes the freezing cry Ancient forest's claws in the night sky From vast dark depths... From vast dark depths... Black five foot blade clenches in his fist Dark shade from the deepest hall of earth Long ears and razorsharp horns Under helmet glows two scarlet coals... Now rises darkness towards heaven's boundaries Lustful steel now freezes winds to ice Thus lifeless remains man and woman Judgement falls and silence reigns Oh, wide dark depths... Oh, wide dark depths..." In the concept of the entire album and the main theme of all of finntroll's songs, I guess this song is about the rise of a troll warrior (or king) (but it also be a demon, but I don't think so, because it isn't finntroll's thing XD).. The rise of this *thing* from the depths of our earth towards heaven to call judgement upon us and make an end to the the chrsitian plague :D - probably.. |

| Finntroll – Asfågelns Död Lyrics | 19 years ago |

"Vulture's Death Black blood the moon now drinks Black statue from the depths rises Warpainting drawn into the face From cave's dim comes great death Days are at hand, days are killing Through the night we march Blood of the raven, Christian belief Vulture of christianity's threat Days are tearing, days are toiling Feed brother worm with food End the lives of the heaven's pest Vulture of christianity's threat Rust and flame now devour purity Like machine of stone and flesh Thousand of trolls now march Blood drips staining red.." This song compares christianity with a vulture. Feasting, exploiting us. And it describes the march of the trolls who will kill this volture. So, like many songs of Finntroll, it is a song about how the trolls will victor over the christians, |

| Finntroll – Den Hornkrönte Konungen (rivfaders Tron) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
*army - srry for the double post - But i forgot to add something :P The fact that the troll king is called "the horncrowned king" means that he is the opposit/alternative version of christ (jehovah's son), since he was "the thorncrowned son". |
| Finntroll – Den Hornkrönte Konungen (rivfaders Tron) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
First, let's start off with the translation "The Horncrowned King A lone shadow has ridden forth He has risen, lord of the North's secret people He stares at the mountains, he raises his arm Dragonblood boils in his chest King of the peoples of trolls, horncrowned he stands Ruler over all from the darkness They gather from the black night of the forest They travel from mountain and lake... Goblin and troll, blackelf and wolf The bear's spirit and maiden of the sea... At the trollthrone's foot they now gather they flock in a crowd so all can see here gather trolls and evil things They cheer and celebrate as well as they can Soon they hear a rumble, a mighty boom So the death of Jehovah's son is heralded So this heathen horde advances And Rivfader, their Lord, they carry forth... " The song basically describes the arrival of the old troll king and the gathering of his arm. His arrival will mean the end of christianity in Scandanavia and the triumph of the old beleif. |

| Kamelot – The Haunting (Somewhere In Time) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Really? :/ You're kidding me? - Sorry, wrong :P This song ain't about Helena.. It's about Ariel and a girl named Marguerite. It supposed to be a duet between Khan and Simone Simons, though Simone has become more of a backing vocalist O__o Something Kamelot tends to do too often. Anyway, everyone who's familiar to the Epica story line knows that Ariel lost his love Helena and one day he comes across a girl who reminds him of her, named Marguerite. She seduces him and he almost falls in love with her but just in time he realizes that he only loves her because of her resemblance with Helena. So he refuses to love her (at the moment) But he also promises to return one day, when his quest has ended and he found peace of mind.. Then he might love her again. Beautiful love song.. Though I dislike the smallness of Simone's part in the song :/ I dunno.. |

| Kamelot – March Of Mephisto Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Thanx wolf76 for the translation :) I think you were thinking in the right way, but I disagree on the assumption that this piece of latin is just artically added. Mephisto says these things in a more sarcasmis way.. Not that he literally means what he is saying, but he says something like: "We already achived the first steps in our ways to complete your quest. You did it all with my help. But I assure you, God will be glad you did it in the end. He will thank you" Of course he is saying that to give comfort to the mourning Ariel. For those who aren't familiar with the story line: this is the first song of the black halo, which picks up the story line started on the previous album "Epica". Ariel (main character) set out on a quest for life. Made a deal with the devil Mephisto, who showed him the meaning of his life in the end by taking away what he neede the most: his love Helena. At the moment we see Mephisto speaking to Ariel. Telling him not to grief about his lost. It was just a lesson he had to learn, one step closer to finalising his quest. Ariel should stay with him, they belong together as a team and he will show him the meaning of life for the rest of the story.. Which we see in the songs that follow. Great song, one of the darkest this band ever made.. Though I don't know why they asked Shagrat for the grunts.. His grunts are pretty weak, as we hear in this song.. correction: we barely hear him :| that's just what I mean.. I also find it a shame that there are only so little grunted lines on the entire album.. they are more of a backing vocal.. this isn't really what you call a duet between Khan and Shagrat :P |

| Kamelot – Descent of the Archangel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is the introduction of the Mephisto character to the Epica story line. The devil descents in the disguish of an Angel to seduce Ariel (the main character) He offers him help on his quest in exchange of his soul and grants him time to think things over.. But he is also SURE that Ariel won't refuse.. And he eventually will get his point as we can see in the next song of the album :P Anyway, great song ^^ Love the intro.. Though I normally hate the sax, this one was a great mood setter.. You really see the angel descent when you close your eyes :P |

| Kamelot – Center of the Universe Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Hmm.. Not much to say about the meaning of this song.. It's basically the intro to the Epica story line.. Ariel who explains to us his reasons to set out on a quest for life. He feels an agony by not knowning what his reason for living is. He assumes someone must have known, at least once.. And he suspects the find the answer in Epica, the mythical centre of the universe.. where we could find the answers to all the questions. The funniest thing is that the chorus already gives away some of the things that will happen. He assumes someone must have known when they faced death - something he will do as well in the end - not his own death, but the death of his love. And he says that in Epica everyone is alone and that also happens in the end.. He knows the answer by then, but he sacrificed his love for it. The bridge of the song is an invetation to come, sit and listen to Ariel's storyn and maybe we'll find our meaning.. Well, not much of message in this song :P But I DO love this song ^^ Nice up tempo song, and especially the female backing vocals in the bridge were an awesome touch :P |

| Kamelot – III Ways to Epica Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is the conclusion to the 1st part of the Epica story line (it is continued on the black halo :P) Ariel (the main character) is on a quest for the meaning of life and in exchange of his sould he is aided by the devil Mephisto. He makes Ariel realise what the meaning in his life was by taking away Helena, his one and only love. She was his reason to life. That's the basic conclusion we get out of the story line.. When looking at the title of this song, two questions may arise "What's Epica?" and "What about these three ways?" Well, Epica is first described in the books of Götheberg and it is assumed to be the Centre of the Universe, the alleged place where we can find the answer to al questions. This is where Ariel hoped to find the meaning of life.. The three ways to Epica, can be found back in the three paragraphs of the song in which Mepihisto speaks. It are three life lessons he tries to give to Ariel. The first lesson is "Everyone will make mistakes in his life and you'll pay for them. But you will also learn from them." The 2nd lesson: "Sometimes you just have to trust people to be able to carry on in life" (though this can also be seen as a trick of the devil, who tries to gain Ariel's trust again.. something in which he suceeds as we can see on the black halo album) And his final lesson "You just have to learn to accept that sorrow is just as much a part of life as happiness." |

| Kamelot – A Feast for the Vain Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This a song from the Epica concept album. In this scene of the story line we see Ariël (the main character) arriving at the party he got invited to by the Archangel (Mephisto in disguish) He enjoys himself at the party and eventually Mephisto offers him to help him in his quest in exchange of his soul. And Ariel agrees on that, but only when Mephisto also promises him eternal youth. And this brings us back to the title of the song.. The fact that Ariel asks Mephisto to not let him age during his journey, means he is found on his looks.. So its both a party for him as it is a feast for other sinners.. A party which is hosted by the devil himself, of course. |

| Nightwish – Beauty Of The Beast Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is the finally of the album Century Child which has a central theme about the lost of innocence and the search for a lost love. Both themes return in this song. Part 1 describes the loning for that lost love and how he finds her again, still having the same feelings for her like he had in the past. In chronical order, the 2nd part of the song goes back to the time before the 1st part. It discribes his search for the long lost love, the memories he had of her that kept him going, but it also contains a reflextion of his past life. He tries to explain how hard his life has been and he tries to justify his lost of innocence. Sanest choice in the insane world: Beware the beast but beware the feast he offers with this he tries to say "In this sinful world we have no other choice than join in with the rest and just try to keep as sane as possible in our hearts and minds." The 3rd part is named Christabel, a girl's name (his lovers name I presume). The name itself means "beautiful christian"/"beautiful faithfull".. So naming his lover Christabel means that she is a pure, angelic figure in his mind. This part of the song are his last words to her. He asks for forgiveness since he feels like he failt her. For I know now, I'm a puppet on this silent stage show. "I was just a tool of the system, someone who went along with the rest" I'm but a poet who failed his best play. "I failed in what I thought I could do best" or "I failed in live" A Dead Boy, who failed to write an ending To each of his poems. The Dead Boy is synomonous to his lost innocent. Concluding we can say its about him, seeing himself as a Beast, since he went along with this sinfull world etc. and she was the only one who saw his inner beauty. So it's defintely a love song about losing and finding back the only one who ever seemed to really understand you. |

| After Forever – Follow In The Cry Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Ragebox, you are totally right on. This song is another song from Mark's Embrace that Smothers and like other songs from this serie it critizes religion. The first paragraph basically says that organised religion seems nice and all, but actually is a kind of tyranny, which abuses his power and uses us (the fundamentalists in this case) as tools for its crimes. The second paragraphs tries to explain what fundamentalistic people actually think.. why they think like they do.. It's because they fear (and fear is the doom, doom of us all :P) They are brainwashed, they allowed their relgion to brainwash them :/ Then the rest of the song basically parodies on the fundamentalists.. illustrating how they think, how sick their thoughts are.. The last two lines conclude the song by saying "here you go, another couple of hunderd victims on behave of the fundamentalist" |

| After Forever – Leaden Legacy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sorry Vampirella666, but this song ain't that much about personal emotions.. I'm certain of that since this is a song from 'the Embrace that Smothers'-serie, which is a serie of songs who critizise religion. This song is actually the 1st song in this serie, and I love all the song from the serie. Intresting bit to the latin parts in these lyrics is that they are actually repeating the lines from the prologue.. wait.. wtf? who forgot to add the latin lines :| Well.. here they are then: "Sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper et insaecula saeculorum" (this is repeated twice in the song, between the two 2-lined paragraphs) Well, of course I'll explain this latin bit first. It literally means "Like He was in the beginning and shall be for now and forever" These are prays to Jesus Christ. In Mea Culpa, the prologue to this song, you see that we ask jesus to save us from our mistakes (mea culpa means 'my fault') Which finally brings me to the meaning of this song.. Christianity is the leaden legacy. It scrared our history in ways we can't describe. The chorus says something like "jesus, we lost the true faith ages ago.. we dissapointed you and made a mess of it" This brings to another interpretation of the title.. christ gave us a legacy, but we abused it so it became heavy on us :P But this ain't suddenly a pro-jesus song.. No, it's more about we lost the insight of what true faith is and we now follow indoctrination. Which what is the Embrace that Smothers is all about. And it doesn't matter whether you would chance from faith.. from religion, since all modern day relgions are like that.. all are indoctrinating, all have a history stained with blood. Just read the lines: "Those who separate and join the opposite do not see that that will get them nowhere Can't you understand it is a similar manipulation" Now the time has come to see what true faith is.. we must the truth, the light.. and stop crawling like dogs and slaves for the church and similiar systems. |

| After Forever – Eccentric Lyrics | 19 years ago |
At first the song seems to be about bulling. This song is taken from the conceptalbum Invisible Circles in which we follow a child who grows up without knowing any love. The child seems to be bullied (maybe by other kids) and she tells us how much their words can hurt. In the chorus she tells how she sees this as a struggle of life and we can even detect suicidal thoughts in the words "A fight to free me from an endless struggle with life " and "Can't take anymore" But it could also mean that this is the turning point in which she stops running away from her bullies and starts to fight them. But since the rest of the album doesn't continue about that, I guess that doesn't happen. In the third paragraph (after the chorus) the child starts to explain that she'd never want to be like her bullies - or like anyone who supports this "world with wars and respite". Concluding I say the song is about an outcast who wants to stand up against her opponents and become better than them - a better person. Whoch complies exactly with the title of the song :P But thinking more and more about it.. In the concept of the album.. Maybe her bullies aren't just random kids, but her very own parents, who never take her serious etc. which would make it even crueler.. But I'm not certain since that doesn't really fit in with the title and setting and stuff.. Digital Deceit being the next track on the album would maybe shed another life on the subject.. At the one hand it support the theory that her bullies are her parents, since in DD she flees for them, but at the other hand it could support the 'random kids' theory as well since that song is basically about someone who tries to be tougher than sje really is in her own fantasy world.. but meh.. that's another topic. |

| After Forever – Yield To Temptation Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is the 3rd song of the 'Embrace that Snothers' written by Mark Jansen. Like every other song in this serie, it critizises religion as being a smothering embrace to our induviduality and sanity. The song itself tells about how religion indoctrinated us for ages, made us fear and hate and it tells us that now the time is come to stand up and think for ourselves again. Stop letting them think for you, make your own decisions. Mark even screams to the end of the song "never shall I be a marrionette", never shall I be a slave to the system again. |

| After Forever – Beyond Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The song is about the madness that gets to people when you'd leave them alone for too long. We are social creatures.. living in solitude makes us nuts and we are going to see things that aren't really there. I really love this song because of its structure. Sharon and Floor first sing together and describe the fear but also the way in which this person is splitt in two.. you can't find this back directly in the lyrics, but the way they use two singers instead of one, suggests it.. In the middle of the song we have grunts and screams, who represent the explotion of this fear in agression, sorrow and depression. This part of the lyrics also comment our society. We aren't living in a paradise, but in a world in which we all get more and more alone.. |

| Cradle of Filth – Filthy Little Secret Lyrics | 19 years ago |
First of all I must say that imo you guys are totally missing the point.. No offense, but the title itself should have given you enough of a clue to see that this song ain't about love, but just plain sex. Which doesn't suprise me, because its from Dani's hand. Probably not even plain sex, but about mastrubation (what would be my filthy 'lil secret) Some of the clues you get in the lyrics (besides the obvious clue found in the title itself) are the references to nymphetamine. If you'd read the meaning of the song 'nymphetamine', you'd find out that the word itself means 'a beastily love for beautiful women'. So.. In the lyrics he's saying that he is addicted to this girl and without her to think about it's hard for him to get an orgasm. He even literaly uses the words "orgasmic flame" Also.. before the guitar solo he seems to scream: "she makes me MOURN" (not 'burn' :S) Which obviously shows that he gets off on this girl :P Besides the 'mastrubation'-thing, this song has another intresting layer: a mythical layer. Very often Dani refers to the myth in which Hades (Lord of the Underworld) took Persephone (daughter of Demeter and Poseidon - if I'm correct) as his bride against her will. He uses it as a metafore for what he wants to do to this girl.. take her with him and make her his bride. To make it even clearer: "I would risk all this For one minute of bliss With Her body and its gift My filthy little secret" In these lines he says that he would do anything for just one moment of really being with her.. having real sex with her, in stead of just mastrubating on the thought of her. But when we reach the end of the song he says: "Forever sworn to keep it My filthy little secret" Which means that it will forever remain a fantasy and that he'll never be with her. The reason for this is that she's dead, I get this idea by the last line of the song: "As the worms beneath arise" Makes me wonder... Maybe he killed her.. Because some of the lines can be interpretated as references to this.. And maybe this murder is his filthiest secret ;) |
