| Bear's Den – Agape Lyrics

Feels like a guy who's so insecure, and dysfunctional with this (or all) relationships, he's convinced it's doomed. A self fulfilling prophecy he feels unable to avoid. I relate to this song in this way. |

| Tom Petty – Learning to Fly Lyrics

If you're naive enough to think that this isn't a drugs song, you haven't experienced that side of life. Not that you should go do down that road, but you should at least accept that you don't truly understand the song. For me the lyrics speak of coke or crack, or something heavier. |

| Blazin' Squad – Where The Story Ends Lyrics

The lyrics are a bit melodramatic, but so are teenagers. I think hastalavictoria is being a little harsh. Sure, I find it difficult to take the song seriously, because my teenage years are so far behind me, but I think if I was 15 again, I'd really identify with this. And I do enjoy listening to it :) |

| R. Kelly – Gotham City Lyrics
|
It's a real shame this song was released to tie in to such a poor film, because it's quickly dismissed as a result.
I think this is the most beautiful ballad R. Kelly has ever done. Sure, the lyrics might not be particularly deep, it probably wasn't written from the heart.
Taking it for what it is though, a pop-ballad, it's absolutely stunning. |

| Hanson – Been There Before Lyrics

I think this song is about making the big time, and remembering your humble beginnings. Probably inspired by their own career.
It's also one of my favourite songs on the new album. |

| Suzanne Vega – Luka Lyrics

"A few years ago, I used to see this group of children playing in front of my building, and there was one of them, whose name was Luka, who seemed a little bit distinctive from the other children. I always remembered his name, and I always remembered his face, and I didn't know much about him, but he just seemed set apart from these other children that I would see playing. And his character is what I based the song Luka on. In the song, the boy Luka is an abused child -- In real life I don't think he was. I think he was just different." Suzanne Vega, in a Swedish television special recorded 3 November 1987. |

| The Beautiful South – Prettiest Eyes Lyrics

A really sweet song about an old couple, who are still in love.
Age my have taken their looks, but they have the memories of a life together, and clearly, no regrets. |

Sounds very different to other Ultra songs, down to the fact Fame Academy's Alistair Griffin is lead vocal. |

| Michael Jackson – Who Is It Lyrics
|
Clearly, this is about the pain of your lover leaving you, told in a powerful way. He doesn't know why she left, but, like most men, he's assuming it's to be with someone else.
A simple idea for a song, but brilliantly executed. |

| Embrace (UK) – You're Not Alone Lyrics

Too many people dismiss Embrace's earlier work, but this is a great track and shows their career didn't start with the Out of Nothing album. |

| Jimmy Soul – If You Wanna Be Happy Lyrics

I remember hearing this song on Radio 1 about 15 years ago.
It completely left my mind until today, when me and a friend were looking at a particularly unattractive woman. |

| Millie Jackson – Loving Arms Lyrics

I submitted this song because it was always a favourite as a kid. I've recently discovered more of the album, which is such a masterpeice I can't believe I only used to listen to the first (this) track. Still, it's a great cover of a fantastic song. |

| Pet Shop Boys – Go West Lyrics
|
I think the Pet Shop Boys intended this song to have far more meaning than the Village People did.
Watching the video the song has to be about the fall of communism, however you get a hint of sarcasm that perhaps the west isn't that much better at running it's countries.
The Village People original certainly seems to me to be less political, perhaps svenqurk's comment is correct on that one. |

| Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street Lyrics

I was listening to this song a LOT in the year before I moved away from my home town. Lines like "Another year and then you'll be happy" really stuck with me at the time. When I hear the song now, my mind drifts back to where I was then. |

| Hanson – With You In Your Dreams Lyrics
| 19 years ago

|
It's a shame this song was recorded so early in their careers. The song is excellent but their young voices just don't suit it. When they sing it now, at gigs, it sounds absolutely perfect, I really wish they'd re-record it. |

| Del Amitri – Nothing Ever Happens Lyrics

"They'll burn down the synagogues at six o'clock"
This is the one line I've never fully understood. Or, at least, I never fully understood why it was in this song. |
