Wolf Parade – Shine a Light Lyrics 19 years ago
This song reminds me of the movie Ikiru by Kirosawa. For those who haven't seen it it's about an old beaurocrat who's wasted his life accomp[lishing nothing in an office who finds out he's got stomach cancer. He starts staying out every night trying to live and feel the joy that he's lacked for so long. This song reminds me of that persuit for life as we all get closer and closer to death.

Oh yes, and go see the movie. It may not be in English or in color, but it made me cry, and think (a lot), and any movie that can do both those things is pretty damn good in my book.

Wolf Parade – Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts Lyrics 19 years ago
For me, the first half of the song seems more tense and stressed, more sad. It is when he starts singing his new song and making his new plans, starts being content with his water and holes and stops being consumed by his hunger, things suddenly shift for the better. Musically, things just become more happy and celebratory. I can't quite pin down exactly what the shift means but I'm still thinking on it.

Wolf Parade – I'll Believe in Anything Lyrics 19 years ago
And I could take another hit for you
And I could take away your trips from you

This seems to be referencing some kind of drug, but for me the drug reference is largely metaphorical-as if it is the society that is keeping them sadated and detatched from there desires--especially the desire to leave and be free of it all together. Feels like Roussouian love song to me...

He could be in love with an imaginary woman, but I'm more charmed with the idea that he is in love with a concept or a profession and is comparing it to a woman.

I've never heard a story told so well. Great walking music. Listening to this and walking downtown makes you feel like a badass.

Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue Sky Lyrics 19 years ago
"Never mind I'll remember you this way"

This may be my favorite line in this song. The idea that you can capture this sunny moment, this perfect memory, and keep it in your mind and in your heart forever...there is something so innocent and beautiful about it. I too want to hold onto that state of perfect sunshine and peace.

Pink Floyd – Two Suns in the Sunset Lyrics 19 years ago
Immediately after buying this album I went in my room, cranked the volume, and turned off all the lights as I stared at the ceiling. I listened to the whole thing straight through and by the time I got to this song I was bawling. I couldn't remember having cried so hard in years. Some say that it is too sad and depressing but dang is it powerful... I love this song. Makes you really think about how quickly life can fall apart and how fragile we all are.

Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945 Lyrics 19 years ago
For me the spanish boy has always represented a kind of reincarnation-the reincarnation of an idea. Ms. Frank's spirit and faith in life is what was reincarnated-In Arillo, in you, in me, and in Magnum. Maybe that's why he is so infatuated with this life-because he feels as though it is a part of him.
