Probably the main inspiration behind the lyrical content of Antistar, came from 3D's favorite book at the time, "Geek Love" by Katherine Dunn, which is a damning portrayal of the cult of celebrity in modern times. The band booked time at Sony Studios in London, UK during June 2002 along with a 50 piece orchestra to record each string part as individual tracks. To achieve the Eastern-influenced feel that Massive Attack wanted, each discrete track had to be edited, and individual notes had to be pitch-bent to precise quarter tones — an exhausting process that Neil Davidge had to complete entirely by ear. To finish the song, Massive Attack used a simple breakbeat rhythm that was programmed with a Korg Electribe drum machine. |

okay, noone seems to really get a straight idea what this song is about.. so i am going ahead and tell you all what I think... a breakup? "wasting time, its over and all ended. wasting time that we diserve....". ::: it seems that this whole first part is about a a fight in a relationship. Possibly about something caused by the girlfriend doing something that made the boyfriend upset. Causing fights because the girlfriend doesnt see that she did something wrong.. maybe cheated on him?! I dont know. The second part "I can see the headlights and the pavements, my legs wont carry me that far" ::The boyfriend is upset and starts drinkin till he is drunk to the part where he just cant walk anymore "I can see the headlights and the pavements, but my legs cant carry me that far" ::The headlights could be a goal, maybe about him trying to work things out with his girl. But his legs cant carry him that far, getting her back, just being something that wont happen again. Maybe because she wont change and he cant be with her, or maybe because she doesnt want him. The third part, I could see as the after effects of the breakup. Maybe him trying to show her that everything was her fault ... "Faceless lies, it's easy to speak when Every word is your own" But she is very selfish and doesnt realize that its her fault that they had broken up? Hard part to understand... "Your days were golden while we bled" While he was sufferin from her actions, he was upset, causing fights?! I also noticed that the first whole part is very loud, which could symbolize the fight the couple had. The mellow part at the end.. could be the after the breakup, him being sad about the breakup and the fighting being over... It is very hard to interpret. But this is what I think. Could be all wrong. This is LODVGs best song I think! I believe it is about her love going to Paris. She likes to remember Paris and look back to the times.
