i feel like out of all the songs by bright eyes, i could relate to this one the most. My interpretation is that there's a girl in his life and she is the only main thing he has to live for because she means everything to him.
then she broke his heart and he had nothing else left in his life and nothing to look foward to, so he felt lifeless, like sand, and realised how many other people were in the same situation after. pretty much making it seem like our lives are pointless and at the end of it all we're just going to die. |
