Yeah wow it seems like not that many people interpret it as sarcastic and depressing but that was my first reaction to it. I'm not saying it doesn't make me happy, I just don't think the message is super happy. I guess some people see sarcasm in a lot of things that some other people don't. But I mean just the name.. It's about how life needs some support from.. well.. heaven. I am not religious but I still like the song. I like the part "I won't give up, if you don't give up."
A girl in my religion class played this song and related it to God or whatever and that line was important. It's a good song, no matter what you believe. It's about hanging in there and realizing that life is gonna suck but just to hold youself up and find support. |

This song has a a lot more meaning to me now that I've read the lyrics word for word.. this reminds me of how my Asian friend described how she felt when she went to Croatia (sp?). She said she felt like everyone stared at her and that she was an alien and she felt insecure and kind of depressed. It's an interesting song and kind of relatable. I'd say there's a lot of people out there who feel like they wonder what they are doing "here"... like in their town or whatever, and how easy it is to cover up your real identity and make people think whatever you want about yourself when you don't know them well. I guess you can trick people into thinking you fit in. But not for long. |

I like this song because it's easy to feel like this sometimes, how you feel below people for stupid reasons and feel unworthy but you're not really unworthy.. and it's like if someone hates you or you get in fights a lot and they think you are just the worst person ever or talk to you like you're incompetent. I don't know why but when I first heard this song I thought most people should be able to relate.. just sometimes at least. This song makes me feel better. I don't know why. |

Yeah I didn't think this song is so much against alcohol as just stating what it is. The singer obviously drinks/has drinken it alot and he's saying why he drank it and what it does to him and why people drink it. It's just about alcohol period, how it's fun but also sucks because of the way we abuse it and drink too often. Barenaked ladies did make a song called Marijuanaville as their own version to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville... so I never thought they were against alcohol since they like(d) marijuana. But it's a fun song. It shows the good times and the bad times. |

This is a great pick me up song and I agree with everyone else. My favorite part of this song is "I will buy you that big house way up in the west hills", because I live in Portland where his ex-wife lives who he is singing about and the west hills are the nicest part of Portland where all the rich people live. The part that makes me smile is that he did buy a house in the west hills. My friend lives in the west hills and sees him at her sports club sometimes because he still has his house in Portland even though he lives in LA and his daughter and ex-wife live here. |

This is a great product of old school No Doubt.. haha I wonder if they made this just to appeal to punkish 16 year olds because it really does get it right if you're 16 or around that age. It's a good song and it's just about growing up and being in the middle years.. not a child but not an adult. Good song. It really does get to how you feel like no one understands.. like being segragated, closed off.. and that little radio clip they insert in the middle about kids being the products of rock music and bad neighborhoods. |

I always thought this song was sarcastic too.. I don't think it matters because it can just depend on your personal experience/personality but I've always thought he was saying "We're covered in lies and that's okay" like accepting that their relationship is over and that he doesn't need to be treated badly.
