i was recently involved with a girl for a few months, though nothing serious resulted from it like i wanted. the lyrics and feelings in this song were the same that i felt. "how long i'll wait" at the beginning of the song, the guy is sitting with the girl and thinking in his head about how long the night is going to last due to his hesitation. he likes being with the girl and knows a lot of things they could do together that would be fun, but he already knows what he came for: to break things off and say his goodbyes. this isn't necessarily the choice he wants to make, but he knows he just has to do it. he acknowledges that he's not going to see or hold her anymore, but that she never opened up to him like he had constantly hoped she would. "the time i'll waste" in this next part he's still thinking to himself, but feeling a bit foolish about himself for the situation he is in. the connotation from the first line about his hesitation is a bit sardonic to represent the foolish feeling he has. this line clearly tells us again that he doesn't want to do this and probably wishes things could be different with the girl, but he knows they aren't going to change. i think the line that goes "out of your way/i could do this right" says that before meeting up with the girl that night, he went over how he was going to go about the meeting and everything would go smoothly and he would feel confident, but now that he's with the girl in person and not "out of her way", his heart can't let go so easily. out of your way is just another way of saying not with her in person. "leave it all" these next lines talk about the consequences of what he planned to do. he would be giving up on the memories made with this girl and on their future, though he reveals that they did have their fights, so it's been a rough road and he's emotionally strained. another downer about his situation is that summer is coming to a close which means it's gonna be a while until he's feeling good again. there aren't going to be anymore nights where he would get to drive to see her and then enjoy the night being with her. you can really feel it in his voice how much this all pains him. Lastly, the two spent their fair share of time together, but the euphoria and bliss they both felt ran dry and he feels more grown up and like an adult, but this isn't a good thing. The idea of wishing to be younger/a kid comes to mind. They "didn't win" and fall in love. "I'm miles away" This line is my favorite in the entire song because it describes so well how I felt the night before everything fell apart with the girl I knew. There wasn't much compassion coming from her that night and I just felt so disconnected and unloved. Even though he is there with the girl and about to go to sleep with her (not how he planned to 'end this night'. he wishes things would just work out) he feels so far away emotionally from her because of the lack of feeling and love she is displaying. It's as if he isn't even in the room with her and he doesn't mean much to her. He just can't let someone degrade and wear his feelings like this anymore. So that's how I think the song goes and I hope you enjoyed reading what I wrote. |

this is definitely my favorite song cause i can relate to it. there's this girl i know who lives in canada and she is my favorite person in the world to talk to and "I'd be overjoyed if we could just hang out sometime" not to mention date or be more than friends, but "I know it's stupid." yea. great song. im seeing hellogoobye live on nov 7th :) so i REALLY hope they play this song |
