| Mirah – Don't Die In Me Lyrics

seems like mirah has been dating people who travel a lot. i think she's expressing how being away from your love makes it difficult, at least for him in this instance, to keep from straying from her. i think when she says "i don't want you to die in me" she's effectively saying "don't stay in this relationship just because you feel as though you must." |

| Iron & Wine – Each Coming Night Lyrics

it's almost like he's on his death bed, talking to his lady. i get the feeling that his death was untimely...they maybe had small children together. unfamiliar rooms could mean that they had to keep their relationship a secret. in the last two lines, the image of his face is fading as she grows older and older and life changes, but she still dreams about him, the way he was before he died. |

always thought this song sounded like a crazy street prophet predicting the end of the world. obviously, it's about the end of something, or succumbing to something. maybe death. maybe the pointlessness of life.... *shrug* it's one of my favorite songs. |

| The Shins – Caring Is Creepy Lyrics

breakup, of course. he knew it would never work out, because of some sort of differences between them..."on rocks i dreamt of where we'd stepped
and the whole mess of roads we're now on." maybe the relationship fizzled on her side and he saw it coming. people care about each other but once they realize they're differences are too great, everything sort of falls apart.
squawking birds... song birds usually sound beautiful, but in this case they're a cacophany. laying bricks, building nothing... you try, but it's not making anything useful. |

| The Sundays – I Feel Lyrics

this is one of my favorite all-time songs. i relate to it really well now that i'm about to graduate from high school. with the rise of the sundays after the issuing of "reading, writing, arithmentic" i tend to think this song has something to do with the vertigo of fame...doing something that seems so ordinary, like writing and singing a song, and then suddenly BAM you're sort of famous. | Iron & Wine – Lion's Mane Lyrics

i tend to think of the lion's mane as something that could hold many different things in its tangles, i.e., fleas, mites, dirt, dead plants etc. love is one of the things that a metaphorical lion's mane could hold. then again, it could be a metaphor for god's creation, as god is often portrayed as a great lion. the first stanza hits me really hard-- "faceless busy phones," "we gladly run in circles but the shape we meant to make is gone." this is just about getting caught up in our own lives and taking one another for granted because there's really not enough time to run efficiently and express love to one another. it's a beautiful, literate way to illustrate that concept. the last stanza reminds me of watching someone sleep...just admiring and adoring a person quietly in a way that isn't always possible when they're awake. rowdy children, for instance. :) as far as the ups and downs of loves as someone else mentioned, it seems to me that both contribute equally to the wonderful feeling of it, and that's what sam wanted to express. |
