This song is about the stages of a relationship. The first stage is crushes, then dating, marriage, I'm assuming highs and lows, and finally a baby. It's the only way I can the entire song makes sense, including the final verse, "Squinched up your face and did a dance Shook a little turd out of the bottom of your pants I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else But you but you " It's exactly what a baby does. It's how their love grows, and finally the love shifts to something even more beautiful as in their own child. BTW, I'm not saying this because of the movie, Juno. It just makes blatant sense. |

| Everyone here is wrong. This song references the collection of stories 'Myths of the Near Future' by JG Ballard, from whom the album is also named. Both he and Pynchon (Gravity's Rainbow) are post WWII writers; and both can be considered as post modern in their circumvention of modernist styles of writing in favourof challenging the reader into a crisis of comprehension, by scattering metafictional clues throughout their texts, whilst keeping themselves at arms length. mbthegreat's contribution was I think really important. While this song is about all the great things that the above people have mentioned, it was just put back into perspective by mbthegreat. After that, I think that the song is making a contrast between the modern world, the one that we know, hence the relevance shown with waiting for a train and talking about the quirks that certain people have, and the contrast coming in between him wanting to, if he had the chance, he would climb trees and eat more blackberries, etc. The final line "let's drive to Brighton on the weekend" maybe representative of him wanting to get back to nature.... Brighton I am guessing is an area by the sea...? Anyway, whatever, that's what came to my mind first. To each their own. |

I absolutely love this song, But, I believe that he is singing about an infatuation he has with a girl, but he can see that she doesn't like him, and nothing will progress. We can see that he is deeply infatuated with her by the way, "around her he forgets behaviour", and she is not into him, by the lines such as, "your wanting his heart, and i'm wanting yours", or " your drawn to him, so I get drawn away". I will also pressume that they are friends, "it's funny how you can miss someone even when they're sitting next to you.." and he knows how she wants another guy because that's what they discuss, he misses her already, because he knows he won't be able to win her heart. With the line that, "So, I profess that loneliness is not always by company cured." he maybe trying to forget about her by striking up friendships, and relationships with other girls, but he just can't shake the thought of her. |

Anyway, but this, is... brilliant, I was disappointed when blink 182 broke up, they were a MASSIVE turning point in my life, and when I heard 'The Adventure' I couldn't help but think, blink? due to Toms oh so familiar voice, but, the music was different, and this is my opinion, it was better. And I am really glad Tom has done this, Angels and Airwaves are going to be great. I never got to see blink play, and this KILLED me, but the first Angels and Airwaves show near me, I am there. The Adventure, is FREAKING brilliant, my player is on repeat one song right now, and this is it.! |
