this song is beautiful. it's such a feel good song. the meaning is pretty obvious. well to me anyway. he's saying when you feel like absolute crap and like nothing is worth anything just remember you are actually wonderful. everyone is. don't take yourself for granted. "don't take it for granted, we are all miracles" amazing. i hope this guy goes on to do brilliant things x |

i heard this song a few days ago and I'm so glad that i've heard it now. "Penny for your thoughts but a dollar for your INSIDES Or a fortune for your disaster" notice the increase in worth the more macabre the object? i think thats how the fans demand more and more of them. just knowing your thoughts isnt good enough anymore. then they wanted to know what your insides were like and now they demand to know every single disaster in your life and have you write songs about it ("There’s a world outside my front door that gets off on being down"). hence "We only want to sing you to sleep through your bedroom speakers We need umbrellas on the inside, give me get me right" They just wanna make music, sing you to sleep. They just want you to like the music they make. But due to this demand for disaster and scandal and horrible things to write about they need bad luck to carry on "umbrellas on the inside" they don't wanna quit because quitter never win but i think theyve realised that they are in this world now where this is what the people want but not necessarily what they want anymore. theyve grown. they're different. they dont wanna be like the all american rejects with the same girl and different songs. but they figure... for now "We walk the plank on a sinking ship". So basically the whol situation is all fucked up but they're gonna make the best of it while they can due to the crap situation they feel sorry for themselves but they're sick of feeling sorry for themselves. its stupid. but they're not happy so what else can they do? it kinda links to you're singing about all this stuff telling the kids what to do but you yourself don't know what the hell you should be doing with yourself this kinda comes after reading an interview with fall out boy again recently and they're obviously not happy (well not at that point anyway) with the demands, with the way people WANT them to be and feeling like they just cant BE you know? thats how i see it anyway. hope it makes some sense |

jesus this is my life RIGHT now i found this song a few days ago after a few months of not listening to bright eyes at all i was/ am completely blown away i dont know how i survived without this song in my life im being perfectly serious people are talking about this being a failed relationship it could have been a complicated close relationship which wasnt quite bf/gf and one just wasnt ready for the other. and you try as hard as you can to meet new people but inside you're waiting for them to just "nod if the plans have changed". i get that because the persons still lost. they havent turned on the light so to speak since he's: "You were the switch on the wall in the dark of the hall that I'm still fumbling for Because I'm lost in the black I don't know where I am I have my arms stretched out in front and I'm calling your name just as loud as I can" his voice lends meaning to the song it makes it half of what it is and so even though he doesnt sound conventinally good it doesnt matter because the meaning hits home to you. and thats what i like |

i say its about just discovering the futility of life and finding out that everything you thought was right was really a load of crap. Said, “Both of us must suffer From this same unending ache” the unending ache being life. thing is life does end it just seems its never ending esp if youre in the state of mind of the wife "When I do wrong, I am with God," she thought "When I feel lost, I am not at all" is about how basically as soon as you screw up or do something bad you think omg im going to hell or youre going to be punished by bad karma or something but then when you feel lost, when you really need help and your praying to god to help you nothing happens. you feel nothing. you just feel totally alone "Oh, I’ve made love, yeah, I’ve been fucked, so what?" i agree that line is class! it's just saying everyones all like "oh we made love" like its something higly amazing and deep but she just looks at it for what it is and says "yeah well ive been fucked, so what" its all the same thing. its just people wont say ive been fucked because it sounds vulgar. but to "fuck" have "sex" make love.... essentially all are the same thing. its the feelings behind it which can decide which word you use. but she no longer has feeling for anything. nothing is special. everything boils down to something dry and empty then finally she decides to just give up the crap existence shes living and i guess become another species as conor said (though i think he may have been joking... hes weird enough to actually mean it though) or die and reach this other place. not quite heaven not quite hell because shes obv not really a believer by that point but something else. i dont get the chorus' i admit that but theres what i think =] |

i LOVE this song yeah its basically like you put us down but you want to be us. you're just jealous. they do it so well in this song it'll just give the haters more reason to envy them. i love it. it's so damn catchy and you're right funky_buddha - timbaland does make you wanna dance wherever you are. its an art. amazing song. pretty self explanitory if you know the basics. |

Ok well i think it's about drug abuse - mainly because dont drug abusers end up just being skin a bone anyway? the constant reminders of starvation and lack of food reminds me of that also lines like "you look better blurry angel" and "hightail to our lush escape" make me think that the feeling they get when they're under the incluence of whatever "I'm on the verge of self destruction Suffering because of my selfish vices I'm on the verge of self destruction Suffering because I gave up on myself and everyone" ^^^ that's all about realising what he was doing to himself and why but "he can't stop running away" ie running away from the world and getting high |

Well i just joined this site to comment on this song and give my idea of what it means I think it's talking about a relationship he was in that was basically destructive. It got to a point where the only way it was benefiting him was through the sex and other physical stuff but the emotion wasnt there and everytime they slept together it killed him a little bit more "i lost my inspiration lying in your bed" but thats all he wanted from her - the sex "but you cannot rape the willing" this is also shown when he says "but get high and dry that’s all i really wanna do so i guess ill just stick around" and he cant even get out of it now cos hes so sucked into it "how did i get so lost inside of you?" i know that probably made no sense at all but ya thats what i think of it This song kicks much ass btw! |
