Everyone remains in love with their first girlfriend (or boyfriend) and this song captures it perfectly. |

Another youthful Townshend song questioning his masculinity. They should play this one for all the kids getting tattoos today....because "you'll be there when I die" and may look pretty silly at 90. |

Agree with everyone on Weld being the definitive version. Several parts of this song are distinctly autobiographical, especially about coming from a broken home (Neil's parents had a bitter divorce which resulted in a move across Canada from his dad who stayed in Ontario) and the wishing he never got old, which clearly takes us back to Hey Hey My My (better to burn out...) On Weld, he doesn't sass back to the preacher--he gives him the finger! Freedom is a weak substitute for the full-blown Horse treatment on Weld. |

| Neil Young – Tired Eyes Lyrics

This is a song about an actual drug deal gone awry in Topanga Canyon in the 1970s. However, according to Neil Young's bio "Shakey", it's also a more personal lament to his departed friends Danny Whitten and Bruce Berry. Asking them to "open up the tired eyes" is pleading with them to become undead. |

Charlie=Smack ass. Every song on this album is phenomenal, especially Swan Swan, These Days and What IF We Give it Away. REM at its prime. |

Rock and roll + beer commercials = BS. Neil's direct shot at the Eric Claptons of the world (think 1989, "After Midnight" remake ads for Michelob Dry). Although many look to "Freedom" as the inception of Neil's great comeback in the 1990's, I think it started here--a great album. |

Charlie Manson. One of NY's angriest songs, perfectly captures bloody, angry violence more than any punk or metal song ever could. |

A reflection on things after the death of Keith Moon and Townshend's struggles with booze and drugs. A self-confessional of an aging rocker. This is a great Pete song that somehow doesn't work when Daltrey sings it. |

This is a great song. It annoyed scores of feminists in 1979 and earned the Knack a reputation as mysoginists, but it's pure fun. |

I guess if you are going to steal lyrics like Hootie did, you may as well rob from the master. Plagarizing Dylan is like trying to burglarize Fort Knox: you're just not going to get away with it. |

| The Kinks – Waterloo Sunset Lyrics

This song is about two lesbian lovers and the writer's distant fascination with the pair. Not unlike the much later Kinks song Art Lover. |
