Dead Can Dance – Xavier Lyrics 15 years ago
Brenden revealed recently that this song is about Roseanna Xavier (one person), a fictitious character who is dealing with being a woman born into a man's world. For YEARS I wondered who this Xavier person was, and if it was a historical character. But Roseanna is the combined name of Brendan's mother and aunt.

Bauhaus – Bela Lugosi's Dead Lyrics 19 years ago
One of the most*. Damn typos.

Bauhaus – Bela Lugosi's Dead Lyrics 19 years ago
Most overrated and overplayed songs in existence, and especially in the gothic community. I'm a big fan of Bauhaus, but I must say I dislike this song and have from the beginning. Too many people use it as a one-way ticket into a romantic subculture.

Peter Murphy – Things To Remember Lyrics 19 years ago
Gorgeous song, this is. Even just reading the lyrics without the song playing is an experience in itself.

Peter Murphy – Socrates the Python Lyrics 19 years ago
My favourite by Mr Murphy. The music is hauntingly beautiful and the lyrics hit home quite well.

Bauhaus – Kick In The Eye Lyrics 19 years ago
Ah, the song that made me fall in love with Bauhaus, and it's still their best.

Celtic Frost – Circle Of The Tyrants Lyrics 19 years ago
I'll post the lyrics to Ground today, along with the others from the new album.

KMFDM – Urban Monkey Warfare Lyrics 19 years ago
The monkey is more than likely Bush.

Tristania – Lethean River Lyrics 19 years ago
In Greek mythology, if you drink from the Lethean River in Hades, you instantly forget your past. Keeping that in mind, the song begins to make a little bit more sense, though, we must admit, Tristania can be a bit "prolix" themselves. :p In any case, it seems this person is burdened by his past, and aches to drink from the Lethean in order to forget it. Which would mean he would have to die ("entrancing sleep") and go tohell/Hades. My personal favourite Tristania lyric is in this song: "Time will gather the source of thy secrecies."

Good question.

Therion – Via Nocturna Lyrics 19 years ago
This is by far the most beautiful Therion song that has been written thus far. It sounds more like a classical piece than is typical of Therion, jumping from part to part like it's five songs in one. It's really magnificent. (Via Nocturna means "the way of the night".)

Therion – Under Jolly Roger (Running Wild cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a cover of Running Wild. The correctly spelled lyrics can be found if you search for Running Wild.

Therion – Seawinds (Accept cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm not surprised that this is apparently a cover, because this has never sounded like a Therion song to me. The lyrics are so different, and the melody simply isn't the kind Therion is known for. Glad that's explained. One thing I always think of when listening to this song (though there are contradictions--a train, for example) is Odysseus. But I think I just have ancient Greece on the brain.

Therion – Lemuria Lyrics 19 years ago
Lemuria is a lost island in the Indian Ocean similar to Atlantis that occultist writers have adopted for one reason or another.

Therion – Ljusalfheim Lyrics 19 years ago
Random information: Thomas Karlsson, founder of Dragon Rouge, offers his voice in this song when he whispers. (The part after "it makes you fly"... It sounds as if he's saying "forever, in the sky".) Ljusalfheim is another world of Norse mythology, where the elves live (as can be seen from the lyrics).

Therion – Lepaca Kliffoth Lyrics 19 years ago
Lepaca Kliffoth means Hail the Adverse Tree. It's used in Kaballah and occultism, but I still don't have it straightened out. As for the rest of the lyrics, I can't even tell you what language it is.

Therion – Draconian Trilogy - Part One: The Opening Lyrics 19 years ago
"Lepaca draconis nox" means "Hail the Draconian night". As to tarados: I'm not sure. More research is in order.

Therion – Clavicula Nox Lyrics 19 years ago
Clavicula Nox means "key of night". It's also a magick symbol--a trident in a circle--used in Dragon Rouge to unlock an incorporeal gate that will lead one closer to Apotheosis (freedom from outside reaction and life led entirely by free will).

The Crüxshadows – Siren Song Lyrics 19 years ago
Reminds me of a similar song by Nightwish (The Siren) that creates the same image.

The Crüxshadows – Return (Coming Home) Lyrics 19 years ago
Yep, it's adefinitely bout Odysseus. Even if it's deduced only from the fact that the Cruxshadows are obviously very fond of ancient history, specifically the Trojan War.

The Crüxshadows – Aten-Ra Lyrics 19 years ago
Something I just noticed: Israel sounds a lot like "is real". :p

The Crüxshadows – Aten-Ra Lyrics 19 years ago
Aten was the Egyptian god of the sun disc (though not Ra--he's seperate) that Akhenaten and his father raised to the level of the one and only god while banning any other gods' existence. To me, the song reminds me of the idea that any/all gods that have been worshipped throughout the centuries are one and the same, creating the impression that all of them are nonsense.

The Crüxshadows – Citadel Lyrics 19 years ago
One word: Iliad. I think we all know whether or not Troy was able to defend itself "without surrender or defeat". ;)

The Crüxshadows – East Lyrics 19 years ago
It's fairly easy to see what this song is about on a one-dimensional level. Adam and Eve left the garden by the eastern exit. However, to me, the song celebrates Adam and Eve's decision to take advantage of free will.

The Velvet Underground – Venus in Furs Lyrics 19 years ago
Speaking of covers: I think there's a universal law that says anyone covering this song is going to sound brilliant. Christian Death and Devotchka have both covered the song; the former with a sort of industrial sound to it, the latter with a more pop sound. They're both spectacular, and worth checking out. Regardless, this is Velvet Underground's best and one of the greatest songs ever written to this day.

Iron Maiden – Out Of The Silent Planet Lyrics 19 years ago
Although the lyrics kind of make me picture New Mexico's role in Brave New World. That's a possibility.

Iron Maiden – Out Of The Silent Planet Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with archagon. The book Out of the Silent Planet is basically Narnia for adults--Earth is corrupt because it isolated itself from God, whereas Mars and Venus haven't. (Thus the lyrics about salvation and desertion.) I'm not sure how these lyrics would correspond to Brave New World; I've read the book twice and none of this rings a bell. It rang the CS Lewis bell right off the bat, though.

Faith and the Muse – Cernunnos Lyrics 19 years ago
The imagery created in my mind while listening to this song is superb. I've always thought the king that is being usurped is more than likely God, but at the same time it could double up as a song about a common medieval king whose people overthrow him.

Wumpscut – Churist Churist Lyrics 20 years ago
I knew it wasn't Latin (I've studied a bit of the language and know it when I see it), and I did finally manage to find an interview where he states that it's an artificial language and doesn't mean a damn thing.
