My favorite TVOTR song. To me this song is summed up with the following verse.

I think most dog owner would agree, there is nothing more inspirational than your own dogs undying faith in you. Day in and day out they are so happy to see you as if nothing else matters in the world ... unconditional and unwavering love comes natural to them. I feel the author is making that simple connection and drawing inspiration.
When times are tough and you question your faith in a higher power all you have to do is look to the dogs of the world for inspiration. They have it figured out. |

What a great song from a great band. Glad to hear they still have it in them. This song reminds me of growing old and experimenting with drugs specifically hallucinogenics (2CI) The trip is one thing but the come down makes you reflect about life and all of its regrets, as if the best times have passed you by...but you are still ok .... similar to the current state of America. |

This song reminds me of childhood romance maybe high school that left a strong impression.
"Spend all our Sundays in a row, ten feet from Chinatown, like it's dead but we know, cause when he put you to bed , your great-grandfather always said, wasting is an art , like the nights we spent in backs of cars" referring to how consumed they were with each other that nothing else mattered as if the world stopped. Back of the car referring to a romantic relationship.
A piece of the part, The end of a spark referring to how it stills a fond memory even though it will never come again. Maybe even how it set the bar for relationships to come. |

First, I want to thank FR for an awesome concert in Phoenix! I agree "A still life is the last I will see of you, a painting of a panic attack" is one of the greatest lines. Reminds me of seeing a picture of someone you thought you would spend the rest of your life with and then ends abruptly. Just a picture can give you the feeling of a panic attack just thinking you will never see them again. To me the suicide scene is a metaphor for how traumatic it was for the singer to lose the love of his life. He relives it in his dreams even to this day and all it takes is one picture of her to remind him of the horror. F-ing Awesome! |

Wow this song hit me hard. I'm not sure what it means but to me its about remembering the best moments of a past relationship. Just like the downtown area of a city is the best the city offers, it cam be compared to the best memories of a past relationship that you miss. I forgot how great this song is. I was on vacation with my family in Vegas and this song came on the radio. Immediately it brought me to the first time I heard it and I was floored once again. I don't think there is a better song that sums up what a once (or twice if you are lucky) in a lifetime a true connection can mean to a person. Call it true love or a true friendship. I call it everlasting, even if the connection ends. |

I feel this song is post break up. He is trying to reminder her of what they once had together. She has moved on (people change) but he has not (some never do)
The seasons refer to the longing in his head for the time they were together. Sometimes its easy to move on (like the hope of summer) sometimes he is right back to where it ended (in the cold of winter) but deep inside he remains hopeful (I've been waiting on you)

I think this song is about the infatuation of love, that amazing feeling when the world is abound and nothing can stop you. Its that feeling of losing someone special, seeing the stages in other couples and never wanting to lose that feeling to try again.

I was just listening to this song on bad flight to Chicago from Phoenix. It reminded me why i moved to Phoenix in the first place 6 years ago. At the time i was ending a rocky relationship with a women that had a sexual addiction. I truly believed she was the one. Long story short, she was not in control, the addiction was. When the infatuation faded, she was back to looking for a fix. I remember having the sex of my life and what looked to be the same for her only to find out she still needed to masturbate with the shower head several hours later. I also remember sometimes she would stay the night and others she would not. I would find out later she spent the night with someone else on most of those nights. This song and a lot of long nights made me realize true love is more than sex. |
